Chapter 366
[How dare a mere human… How dare you harm my children! You insolent worms──!!!!!!]
Arinè erupted in rage as her eggs were destroyed. Greed, by nature, is a sin that cannot tolerate losing what belongs to oneself.
Swoosh!
Ten elongated legs twisted, firing like spears. Under Shin Se-hee’s command, Utopia quickly scattered to escape the range.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The legs struck the ground, transforming the forest’s terrain as though under massive bombardment, causing tremors like an earthquake.
Tap-tap-tap!
I, Kang Do-hee, and Alice simultaneously dashed along one leg each.
Noticing our approach, Arinè summoned her minions.
[My children! Drag those vermin to me at once! Now! Bring them before me!!!]
“Screech!”
“Screee!”
“Shriek!”
Blocking our path were beings whose upper bodies were human but lower halves were spider-like, enveloped in pitch-black miasma.
Clang!
Moonlight cried out as it cut through the air. Its blade collided with the spider legs, sharp as spears, sparking eerie blue flames.
‘Elites.’
Unlike the ones we had encountered earlier, these were on a completely different level in both strength and speed.
Still, I managed to find openings to strike with my blade.
Slash—
The sound of necks being sliced. But even severed heads regenerated almost instantly, sprouting new bodies.
Stab! Slash! Slash! Whoosh!
It took stabbing or slashing them five times before the regeneration finally stopped. To completely kill one required at least five decisive strikes.
Kang Do-hee and Alice were also struggling with the regeneration of Arinè’s minions.
‘As expected of the queen’s royal guard.’
Despite slaying about a dozen or so through relentless swordsmanship, they showed no signs of faltering. Instead, they tightened their encirclement, determined to stop us from reaching their mother.
‘Phew, as expected of the broken Velvets late-game balance’
By the third Demon World Gate, it was undeniably difficult.
Had Kang Do-hee not destroyed most of the eggs with her Avatar of Fire earlier, this battle would have been even longer—and our chances of victory much lower.
‘It’s all the fault of Velvets’ developers.’
They kept releasing new bosses designed around the whales who poured millions into gacha rolls every month. Newbies and free-to-play users were left in the dust.
Sigh—
Momentarily stepping back from the queen’s royal guard, I inhaled deeply, focusing my magical energy into my vision.
‘Still… I’m treading into uncharted territory even by this game’s standards.’
Paths of life and death.
A dazzling white thread intertwined with a dark black line appeared before my eyes, creating a mesmerizing scene.
As if painting with a brush, my sword and body followed the white thread.
Swish— Swoosh—
I moved gracefully, dodging attacks, striking precisely with my blade.
Splatter!!!
With a light slash, the spider bodies split open, spewing venom. But none of it touched me.
Though these spiders should have regenerated even from fatal blows, this time, they remained lifeless.
[You… You wretch─!!!!!]
Distracted by other party members, Arinè now turned her piercing gaze toward me.
Her abdomen swelled, clearly preparing to unleash a concentrated venom spray.
“That skill has a delay, doesn’t it?”
Watching her, I twisted my lips into a smirk.
“And I’m not done yet. There’s still one more path of life left for me to take.”
Whooom—
I imbued Moonlight with mana and slashed toward one of Arinè’s legs stretching toward me.
Slash───────────!
One of Arinè’s massive, pillar-like legs was cleaved clean off, as though splitting a log.
[Aaaaagh────!!! Why, why isn’t it regenerating?! Why won’t it regenerate!!!]
Arinè screamed, waving her severed leg frantically.
Drip-drip-drip!!
Sizzle—
Blood poured from the wound, melting the ground. Stepping back, I remarked,
“My path to survival is your path to death. Did you really think regeneration would work against an instant-kill?”
.
.
.
[Kill that human! Kill him and bring me his corpse! I’ll devour every last piece!!!]
The spider queen now set her sights fully on Jin Yuha.
With her nine remaining legs, immobilizing webs, venom sprays, and a horde of spiders, Arinè launched an all-out assault on him.
It was clear to her that the most dangerous member of the Utopia party wasn’t anyone else but the black-haired swordsman.
Amidst the deafening roars of the spider swarm and the sharp gleam of Moonlight’s blue blade, chaos reigned.
The battlefield was a cacophony of clashing steel and desperate cries.
The Utopia members fought tirelessly to shield Jin Yuha from the relentless attacks.
Naturally, Shin Se-hee grew busier issuing commands:
-“Right side.”
-“Step back a little and defend.”
-“Yoo-ri, throw your shield to cover Jin Yuha.”
-“Slow the left spider swarm.”
-“Ichika, Shadow Clone! Cover Alice!”
-“Sophia, now. Full party heal!”
Shin Se-hee simultaneously issued different commands to each party member, utilizing pre-recorded instructions and real-time directives tailored to the battlefield situation.
Without blinking, Se-hee’s focused voice directed the team. A bead of cold sweat trickled down her forehead.
‘Not yet. It’s not time yet.’
She was waiting for the right moment.
.
.
.
Slice—
Jin Yuha’s sword cleaved through another spider leg, making it the third one severed.
The Spider Queen, having already sacrificed three legs, could no longer contain her rage.
Thump—!!
For a moment, the enormous body of the Spider Queen visibly pulsed as if it were alive.
‘…Now!’
.
.
.
Meanwhile, the live broadcast scene was in chaos.
“Oh my… incredible! Jin Yuha! He’s already cut down three of the Spider Queen’s massive legs! Three! Schwing! Schwing!” exclaimed Lee Min-young, pumping her fists and shadow-boxing toward the hologram screen.
-“Waaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!”
-“Insane…”
-“I just got chills all over…”
-“Oh my god, cutting off one leg means dodging the blood splatter too, doesn’t it…?”
-“Utopiaaaa Fight! Jin Yuha Fight!”
-“Please! Just one more! Just one more!!”
-“Jin Yuha is nuts lolololol”
-“Dad, I wanna marry Jin Yuha when I grow up! Dad, I wanna marry Jin Yuha!”
-“This… is the Sword of Utopia~!! Spiders, you creepy things, run away now while you still can!”
-“Lololololololol”
-“At first, this looked impossible, but somehow it’s happening. Seriously, wow…”
-“I’m crying right now”
Despite the overwhelming and despair-inducing attacks of the enemy, Utopia demonstrated why they were heralded as heroes of this era, proving it live.
“They’re doing so well! Utopia has seized the upper hand against this horrifying enemy! If they can just end it like this…”
Jin Yuha had advanced close to the Spider Queen’s massive body, raising his glowing blue sword to strike at her neck.
Thud—!
Suddenly, the Spider Queen’s body pulsed violently again. At that instant, Jin Yuha and Utopia abruptly turned away and retreated far from the Queen.
-“?”
-“What? Why did they back off suddenly?”
-“Wasn’t she almost finished?”
-“What’s going on?”
-“They just needed one more hit! Why…?”
“What, what just happened? Why…?”
From the hologram display, no visible changes could be observed, leaving the chat and Lee Min-young confused.
The anomaly occurred then.
A storm of dark energy erupted from the Spider Queen, engulfing her. Dead and surviving minions, shattered eggs, and intact ones alike were drawn into the maelstrom, disintegrating and being absorbed by the Queen. Her swollen abdomen grew to an unimaginable size, and she began laying four enormous eggs.
The eggs hatched almost immediately.
“This… what… the…”
Lee Min-young couldn’t believe her eyes, her mouth hanging open in shock.
“The Spider Queen just made four more of herself?”
It was despair manifest.
.
.
.
‘Finally, she shows her true form.’
The Spider Queen Arinè’s Phase 2.
[Power of Avarice]
A power that absorbs everything in the vicinity to replicate identical entities. While the newly birthed queens weren’t as strong as the original, they still retained 50% of her power.
That’s why destroying the eggs during Phase 1 was so critical.
‘Four is manageable. It could’ve been up to nine.’
Facing nine copies would have been catastrophic. Even now, the sudden shift from fighting one Arinè to four with 50% strength each made for a nightmarish difficulty spike.
But I had saved something for this moment.
.
.
.
“Jin Yuha.”
I heard Shin Se-hee’s voice in my ear.
“Yeah.”
“…Please,” she whispered with urgency.
“Leave it to me,” I replied, retrieving a mask from the interdimensional tattoo on my arm. The mask, white with a painted smile, was a peculiar choice.
‘Is this Shin Se-hee’s taste?’
I placed the mask over my face, and a thin barrier formed over my body. Shin Se-hee had suggested this since she thought I became too vulnerable when using Muah.
‘Not that I’m vulnerable—it’s more like I don’t bother avoiding things.’
But Arinè’s blood was venomous. A bit of extra protection wouldn’t hurt.
‘Besides, the team seems fond of my face. Gotta protect my assets.’
And with that, I flipped the switch in my mind.
‘Muah.(No-self)’
