Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Loki's Conspiracy
"Bang!" Loki, enraged, swung his scepter and sent Stark flying, proving once again that "heroes die from talking too much."
Raising his scepter high, Loki sneered, "Mortal! You dare insult a god—you'll pay the price…"
But before he could finish, a bolt of lightning struck him square on the head. As he staggered, a blow landed on the back of his head, sending him sprawling to the ground in a most undignified manner.
Turning angrily, he found himself face-to-face with a formidable female warrior in black armor, wielding a hammer. Loki stared, momentarily stunned.
"Wow!" Tony whistled appreciatively. "First time I'm seeing a warrior princess up close," he said, nudging Steve. "Old Popsicle, I suddenly believe the legend of Mulan."
Steve shot Tony a look. "Tony, quit with the nicknames. And besides, that's Miss Jane from Trudheim Manor. You should show some respect and call her 'Auntie.'"
Tony grimaced and took a few steps away. "I regret ever talking to you."
Loki, meanwhile, couldn't take his eyes off the hammer in Jane's hand. Though he'd heard rumors, seeing it in person was still a shock. "My brother actually let you wield Mjolnir? Unbelievable. He worships that hammer! I once… wore a dress for it…"
"Oh, that's big news!" Tony grinned, feeling his decision to join this mission was well worth it.
Jane just smirked slightly, amused by Loki's embarrassment. Thor's voice crackled over the communicator: "Go ahead, Jane. Rough him up a bit, just keep him breathing."
"On it!" Jane replied, swinging the hammer.
Loki scoffed, raising his scepter. "You think you can challenge a god just because you're wielding Mjolnir?"
A few minutes later, Loki lay pinned to the ground, unable to move as Mjolnir held him down. He stared in disbelief, defeated.
"This… this is impossible!" he muttered. With no choice but to surrender, Loki was secured in a specially designed cell on the Helicarrier.
With Loki contained, the team's attention shifted to a new concern: why the Tesseract had attracted so much alien interest. Tony and Steve exchanged uneasy glances, harboring doubts about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s involvement. Nick Fury attempted to explain, but Captain America slammed a new prototype weapon onto the table.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. is using the Tesseract to make weapons—just like HYDRA did seventy years ago."
Fury opened his mouth to respond, but Stark cut in. "Don't bother denying it. I already analyzed the data."
"No wonder it drew alien attention," Steve said bitterly. "HYDRA's experimentation woke the interest of some alien named Supergiant. Thor stopped her back then, but now it's S.H.I.E.L.D. repeating the same mistakes."
Natasha's eyes widened in realization. "So that's why Thor predicted all of this but didn't warn us. He knew S.H.I.E.L.D. was up to something shady and figured a warning wouldn't help. Why are you doing this, Director?" She looked to Fury, her voice laced with disappointment.
Jane Foster nodded in agreement, silently backing Natasha's statement.
Fury's expression remained impassive. "Ever since Thor arrived, people have realized there's more out there—other civilizations, other threats. Humanity needs strong defenses."
"But we all know that Thor and Asgard have no ill will toward Earth," Natasha countered.
"Thor doesn't," Fury agreed. "But who's to say other worlds will be as friendly? If there's an Asgard, there are bound to be other planets, and they may not all come in peace."
Jane added, "Thor warned us that weaponizing the Tesseract would attract Loki. The energy signals act as a beacon to other worlds—a sign that Earth is ready for cosmic-level conflict. This has happened before, and here we are repeating it."
Fury's voice hardened. "To face extraterrestrial threats, we need power that can make an enemy think twice."
"Nuclear deterrence?" Stark asked, voice dripping with sarcasm. "So we're back to stockpiling nukes? Real progressive, Director."
"A man who made his fortune selling weapons lecturing us on peace?" Fury shot back, unimpressed.
The debate escalated, drifting further from the initial topic and devolving into personal attacks.
Meanwhile, Natasha and Jane, sensing something was off, exchanged a wary glance. Their intuition told them that the heated argument was more than just a clash of opinions—the team seemed to be fracturing before it even properly formed.
No one noticed the faint blue glow emanating from Loki's scepter, the Mind Stone subtly influencing the rising tension in the room.
Nor did anyone notice that a group of agents, led by a brainwashed Hawkeye, had already infiltrated the Helicarrier's security.
Suddenly, a loud explosion rocked the Helicarrier, shaking everyone from their heated argument.
"Something's wrong!" Natasha shouted. "Calm down! The scepter's affecting us!"
From the communicator, Hill's voice crackled urgently. "Engine No. 3 is down! It's not critical yet, but we can't fix it in time!"
"I'm on it!" Stark called, already rushing toward his armor.
A second explosion hit, even stronger, as hostile agents swarmed onto the Helicarrier. The entire team snapped into action, but chaos ensued when yet another explosion caused the floor to collapse. Natasha and Bruce Banner, standing near the door, fell through the breach.
A heavy steel beam crashed down, pinning both of their legs.
Pain shot through Natasha's calf, but she ignored it, urgently shouting to Banner, "Hold it together! Don't let it out!"
But Banner's control was slipping. Without the Hulk's resilience, he was just an ordinary scientist, and the pain was overwhelming. He let out a strangled scream, his heart rate spiking toward 200.
Natasha gritted her teeth, managing to free her leg from the steel beam. But as she turned to check on Banner, a thunderous roar filled the space. Her heart sank—she was too late.
Banner had transformed, the Hulk's massive form looming over her, his face twisted in rage. Natasha barely had time to react. Seeing the danger, she turned and ran, her heart pounding as the Hulk barreled after her, each step shaking the floor.
