Chapter 191: Chapter 191: There Is a God Watching You
"Rocket, send me the space coordinates," Thor said, his voice calm despite the urgency on the other end of the line. "Then have your spacecraft stop for ten seconds so I can lock onto your location and teleport."
"Are you kidding me?" Rocket barked. "The Sovereign has declared us their most wanted criminals! They've dispatched half their fleet after us! If we stop for even one second, they'll blast us into space dust! And all because of Quill, that idiot, offending their high priest!"
"Hey, hey, don't pin this all on me!" Star-Lord's indignant voice cut through the commotion. "I didn't do anything wrong!"
Rocket snorted. "Oh, really? Care to explain the night attack on their high priest?"
Thor sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What a delightful group of lunatics I've decided to help," he muttered to himself. "Fine, I'll come to you directly. I can survive in the vacuum of space, so let me see what's happening."
In the cold expanse of space, chaos reigned. The Milano, Star-Lord's beloved spaceship, weaved desperately through an onslaught of golden Sovereign fighter jets.
"Where's the nearest habitable planet?" Rocket demanded, furiously typing on his console.
"Bohart Star," Gamora replied. "But it's still to far away, and we'll need to pass through a dense asteroid belt to get there."
"Great," Rocket muttered. "Anyone feel like dying today?"
Star-Lord grinned confidently, gripping the controls. "You're all lucky to have the best pilot in the galaxy. Hang on!"
The Milano plunged into the asteroid belt, maneuvering expertly between massive chunks of rock. Despite the odds, Quill's flying was impeccable, each twist and turn just narrowly avoiding collisions.
The Sovereign Omnicrafts, however, weren't so lucky. Controlled remotely, they lacked the finesse needed to navigate the dense field. One by one, they crashed into asteroids, their bright explosions illuminating the void.
"Oh yeah!" Quill cheered, whistling triumphantly. "Who's the best? That's right—me!"
To show off, he executed an unnecessary drift through the debris field.
"Quill, what are you doing?!" Rocket screamed, gripping his seat.
"Relax! I've been flying since I was a kid. This is child's play."
The words had barely left his mouth when an asteroid loomed large in the Milano's path. Quill swerved sharply, but the ship's wing scraped against the rock, sending sparks flying. The Milano spun out of control, bouncing between smaller asteroids like a pinball.
"Quill!" Gamora yelled. "Get it together!"
"Damn it, this is why Quill shouldn't drive!" Rocket shouted as the Milano shook violently.
A sudden, thunderous roar shattered the chaos. Even in the vacuum of space, the Guardians could feel the sheer force of the sound reverberating through their ship. A brilliant beam of rainbow light tore through the asteroid belt, obliterating several Sovereign fighter jets and reducing nearby asteroids to dust.
"Hahaha! That's what I'm talking about!" Rocket cackled. "Who's laughing now?"
Before anyone could react further, a black figure streaked through the void, smashing through the remaining fighter jets with ease. The figure slowed briefly, revealing Thor, his eyes crackling with lightning as he landed gracefully in the Milano's cockpit.
On Sovereign's home planet, the command center was in chaos. A golden-skinned operator stared at the screen in disbelief as the last of their fighter jets disappeared.
"What just happened?" he demanded. "Did they cheat? They must have cheated!"
Around him, the other operators muttered nervously, unwilling to meet his gaze. Sovereign's fleet, known for its advanced technology and precision, had been utterly humiliated.
Back on the Milano, Thor straightened, brushing asteroid dust from his armor. Drax clapped him on the shoulder, grinning widely.
"Now that's a real man!" he boomed. "Unlike Quill, who sneaks into high priests' chambers and gets caught!"
Quill scowled, desperate to change the subject. "Hey, Thor, where's your giant spaceship? The one that's like a floating resort?"
Thor chuckled. "Space teleportation doesn't work for something that large, and I didn't bring my ship this time."
It wasn't entirely true. Thor could've used the Bifrost or even the Space Stone to bring his ship if he wanted. But carrying multiple Infinity Stones had proven taxing, and besides, he preferred a simpler approach when dealing with minor inconveniences like this.
His real reason for traveling light? The upcoming battle with Ego wasn't something he wanted to face with distractions. Ego, after all, was a god on a level beyond even Thanos.
Five kilometers from the jump point, another wave of Sovereign fighter jets appeared, closing in fast.
Quill grinned nervously at Thor. "Uh, buddy? You've got this, right?"
Thor smirked, his voice low and mysterious. "I don't need to lift a finger. There's a god watching over you."
"What?" Quill asked, confused.
Before he could press further, two beams of golden light streaked through the battlefield. In an instant, the Sovereign fleet was obliterated, their ships reduced to shimmering fragments.
