Chapter 208: Chapter 207: Critical Intelligence on the Greek Gods
Halo Universe.
At the frontline base on Harvest, inside the top-floor office of the command building:
Seated behind his desk, Samuel Young was reviewing reports from various departments.
"Snore..."
Lehman, with nothing to do, was lying back on a couch, snoring loudly in his sleep from time to time.
"..."
Samuel glanced at his seemingly carefree son, then refocused on the screen in front of him.
Not long ago, Aldrin successfully exited slipspace and was now steadily approaching the orbital station. This meant that Fulgrim, who had been sent with Leon, Mike, and others to Arcadia, had successfully obtained ONI's research data.
However, due to Arcadia's defenses, the engineers accompanying the mission were unable to land directly on the surface to secretly construct the Ark's teleportation device.
Even though the secondary objectives hadn't been completed, Samuel wasn't too concerned.
For now, everything was proceeding according to plan. Once the engineering team, with the help of components and supplies from the relic base, along with local resources from Harvest, built up a sufficient "naval" force, they would be ready to head for Shield World 0459 and Reach.
As for preparation time, judging by the reports submitted by each department, Samuel estimated it would take at least four to five months.
In the meantime, Atlas would need to explore the surrounding regions of Harvest and be on guard for any sudden visits from the UNSC or rebel forces.
Beyond that, what really worried Samuel was the situation in the primary universe.
During Harvest's sunrise, fragmented images once again flashed through his mind—scenes that included Horus and Sanguinius fighting against a twisted, unclear entity.
Based on these "visions," Samuel surmised that Earth in the primary universe was likely being "watched" by the Warp.
However, Samuel believed that his sons would be able to withstand the pressure and eliminate the distorted entity.
Beep! Beep!
Suddenly, one of the screens on his desk displayed a holographic communication request, with the applicants being "Guilliman, Sanguinius, and Horus."
All three of his sons applying for a call together?
It seemed that the scene he had "foreseen" was about to play out in the primary universe.
Samuel reached out and lightly pressed the green "Accept" button.
Immediately, the holographic projector installed in the corner of the room began emitting soft blue light from multiple angles, creating the 3D images of the three primarchs at the front of Samuel's desk.
Once the projection had stabilized, Guilliman transmitted a summary report to Samuel's screen and was the first to speak:
"Father, it appears that there are Chaos forces from the Warp present in Olympus Mons on Mars in the primary universe. We request permission to take command of a fleet to investigate and eliminate this corruption."
Hearing his son's request for fleet command and quickly skimming through the report, Samuel's eyes flashed with concern.
Hera, Zeus, and the ancient Greek gods?
However, when he absorbed the so-called death goddess Hecate two years ago and gained the loyalty of Rehloya and the Honor Guard, Samuel had already suspected that abnormal entities from various "mythical systems" might exist in the primary universe.
Having understood the basic outline of events, Samuel immediately approved the request and said:
"Very well. Guilliman will act as the overall commander to eliminate the Chaos forces. Sanguinius, Horus, you two will support him in achieving the mission objectives.
Remember, right now Guilliman is the overall commander, and his words carry the weight of my own orders.
If you have any doubts about Guilliman's leadership, be sure to wait until the mission is complete before raising them. I do not want the authority of the commander's position to be undermined simply because you are brothers. Do you understand?"
"Understood," the three primarchs responded in unison.
"Go make your preparations. Oh, and..." Samuel habitually used his physical keyboard and mouse, sending a list to Guilliman. He added:
"A batch of reinforcements from Terra has been standing by at the relic base. They were originally set to be deployed to Universe 08, but since there's no critical conflict there at the moment, they are now under your command."
"Understood."
"Got it."
The holographic communication ended, and the office returned to its usual quiet.
As for Lehman...
He appeared to still be sleeping, but the loud snores had stopped as soon as the call began.
"..."
Samuel lightly shook his head, ignoring Lehman's small ploy, and then reviewed the report Guilliman had sent him again.
Hera, who had wandered through human history, was something he hadn't anticipated.
The reason he hadn't noticed Hera's presence before was due to her lack of human faith, which caused her psychic energy to remain in a state of constant low-level dormancy—little more than a "filter" compared to ordinary humans.
Moreover, after Samuel opened the gateway to other universes, the primary universe saw the emergence of a few humans who were highly sensitive to psychic energy.
At that time, Samuel's own psychic abilities were only developed enough to perceive the emotional fluctuations and some thoughts of those around him.
Hera had also mentioned that many Greek gods, uncorrupted, were imprisoned on Olympus Mons on Mars.
If that was true...
With this in mind, Samuel continued using the physical mouse and keyboard, typing a title on the screen, "Psychic...," but he quickly changed it to "Ghost Agent."
Next, he began filling out the draft of this project.
If those Greek gods, after withstanding nearly four thousand years of corruption and still managing to hold onto their identities and principles, were indeed imprisoned, they might be perfect candidates to serve as instructors for a specialized unit designed to combat the Warp's Chaos forces.
After completing the draft, Samuel got up, walked around his desk, and opened the east window to let in some fresh air. He looked down at the frontline base, which had now grown to the size of an industrial town.
In the shipyard, another Fides-class frigate was undergoing assembly, with a thousand Hex robots spread across the unfinished hull, assisting large mechanical arms in welding.
Taking a moment to breathe in the fresh air, Samuel seemed to sense something. He started walking towards the office door and casually said to Lehman:
"Let's go."
"Ugh! Got it, ahhh~!"
Lehman raised his hands, stretching sleepily before getting up and following Samuel out of the office. Together, they took the elevator down to the first-floor lobby.
As they exited the command building, a Silver Gull transport craft approached from the sky, slowing down, lowering its landing gear, and settling onto a nearby helipad.
The side doors of the craft opened.
Carrying their luggage and briefcases, Mike, Leon, Maggie, and the rest of the investigation team disembarked, with Fulgrim, now sporting slightly longer black-dyed hair, following closely behind.
Seeing this, Samuel finally revealed a look of satisfaction.
Fulgrim's return meant that they had successfully obtained critical intelligence about Shield World 0459.
