Chapter 9
While Serena was guessing, Ishid read her expression and asked with an absurd face.
“Hey, don’t tell me you think I’m talking about a real cat.”
“Isn’t that one your talking about?”
Do cats have real ones and fake ones, too?
Ishid spoke when he saw Serena’s innocent expression.
“What I was talking about…….”
But before Ishid finished speaking, someone cut in on the conversation.
“The pet you are talking about, is it me, Your Majesty?”
Serena turned to the door at a strange voice that suddenly came out.
For a moment, a blue-haired man was smiling and looking at Ishid and Serena when he came in. It was the owner of the cat Serena had encountered earlier.
“Oh? Aren’t you that-?”
“Oh, we’ve met again.”
The man greeted Serena with a smile with his eyes. The cat was empty-handed as if it had been left somewhere else. As soon as Ishid saw the man, he sprang to his feet with a frown.
“When did you get here?”
“Oh, no. You must have missed me.”
The man grinned and strode up. He seemed to have a close relationship with Ishid.
“Those phrases that send one chill are still there. Where did get that anyway, Count Harrison?”
“My apologies, Your Majesty. I, Nocturne Harrison, returned home last night and intend to greet you today after completing what His Majesty has ordered.”
Nocturne grinned softly and courteously. Serena raised her eyes as widely as possible when Count Harrison’s name was mentioned.
‘Was Count Harrison, a friend of the Emperor?’
There are four friends who stood by Ishid when he was an emperor that is confined to a separate palace.
Leonald Carter, called the Sword of the Empire.
Nocturne Harrison, who was revered as the intel genius.
Jack Gordon, the new lord of the Magic Tower, who is rumored to be a newcomer.
And Lily Lowell, the shield of the empire that manages those scoundrels.
At first glance, the four seemed a strange combination because they had different environments, but they had something in common.
They are all capable like Ishid, but the world did not recognize them.
Perhaps, they were of commoner origin or had low value in their families. Thus their names were not properly known during the reign of the previous emperor.
However, after going through various events, their names began to stand out.
The moment Ishid ascended the throne, all had established their positions in their respective areas of expertise.
Among them was Nocturne Harrison who was originally a scribe of Greenwood. Right after Ishid ascended to the throne, he left his job and was granted with the title of Count.
‘Come to think of it, when he returned home from his mission, it was around this time.’
Serena glanced at Nocturne and Ishid as she recalled her past life. Nocturne had left for the south to sign a trade and maritime treaty with the Kingdom of Fyon.
‘The moment when the Count had already come back, a banquet will be held soon. I need to keep an eye on the emperor.’
Serena’s expression became serious when she remembered that Ishid had fainted at the banquet.
‘It’s not like he is extremely fragile, like just walking around already makes him faint.’
[T/n: Extremely fragile originally meant as sunfish or Mola Mola. It is a type of fish that easily dies. Thus, it gained that kind of meaning in Korea.]
Serena glanced at Ishid and flicked her tongue inside. Fortunately, she knew why Ishid was in a coma.
‘Obviously, the alcohol that came from the Kingdom of Fyon was the problem.’
The wine offered by the Kingdom of Fyon, the fruits used as the ingredient for that wine, were not originally cultivated here.
The ingredients that had been used didn’t match the emperor’s food chain. Thus he fell into coma, and Serina’s life almost ended prematurely.
Fortunately, it ended with just a mild reaction called allergy, but at that time, she felt chills down to her spine.
‘The problem is that I must explain that he shouldn’t drink it.’
I can’t just say, ‘You’re allergic to it!’ all of a sudden, so I had to find another way.
‘Okay, I’ll just make an antidote instead in advance. So that I can take action as soon as he drinks it.’
I’ll see then and roughly gloss over the doctor’s opinion. Just then, Ishid uttered a congratulatory message to Serina.
I’ll monitor him then and roughly jot down my prognosis. It was then, Ishid beckoned her to get out.
“You may go now.”
“Oh, yes, sir.”
Serina smiled as if she had been waiting and hurried out of the room.
* * *
Soon after, the news about the commencement of the party in the banquet reached the ears of the people just as Serena had expected.
It was decided after Nocturne, who had met the emperor informally, officially reported his return from his mission.
The banquet was held to welcome the delegation that had successfully signed a treaty with the Kingdom of Fyon.
It will be specially held at the Ruby Hall in the Imperial Palace, thus, the work of the servants had doubled up.
Every time she passed by the palace, the scent of the flowers filled the air. The scent wafted as a bunch of flowers were carried everywhere as decoration in the banquet hall.
In addition to that, Head Magician Gordon frequently visits Ruby Hall’s magic tools before the banquet to replace them with new ones.
“Ms. Serina, where are you going?”
Just as she was passing by, Marie talked to Serina. She was one of the servants she had gotten close to since she started to work in the palace. When she heard her roommate Anna, Serina responded with a grin on her face.
“Nice to meet you, Marie. I was just passing by. Do you want me to help you carry your luggage?”
“I’d appreciate it if you could help me.”
Mary held out one of the baskets in her hands to Serina. Serina asked her while she carry the basket on her arm.
“Where are you going?”
“The incineration plant. The flowers were damaged, so the maid told me to throw them away.”
“Oh, my God. They look fine for me though.”
Serina exclaimed regretfully at the flowers in Marie’s basket.
The petals were a little withered, but they were all quite normal. Marie said, scratching her cheek.
“That’s true. It’s pretty useless. She just wants to exercise her title for no reason.”
Serina agonized over Marie’s words. It was because she thought she could dry it and drink flower tea or use it as an air freshener instead.
“Then give me all that, too.”
“What are you going to use these many flowers for?”
“It could be more useful than just burning it down.”
“Then I’ll move it to Ms. Serina’s room.”
“No, let’s go together.”
Serina walked towards the foyer, securing the basket from Marie who was trying to take it away. She thought that since she got it for free, she can’t trouble her much more.
It was then Serina’s lips twitched as Marie turned on the corner. It was because she knew the faster way.
‘No, if I act familiar with the royal palace’s vicinity, she might find it suspicious.’
Since it is her third regression, she had a clear grasp of the royal palace’s vicinity. To the point where she knows where to go to get to her room quickly, and where the emperor often goes to.
In addition, in the past, she had passed through a secret passage to save the emperor who is in need of help.
The passage was a hidden place, so it would be perfect for her and get misunderstood as a spy if caught by others, so she never used it after returning back in the present time. It was then Marie asked casually.
“Ms. Serina seems to be very close to His Majesty.”
“Huh? Do we really look that close?”
“Actually, the last time I saw you taking a walk with His Majesty, I was surprised.”
“Oh, at that time….”
Serina smiled awkwardly as if she remembered the time when she ran into Marie. It was a walk that took place after a scuffle with the emperor who did not want to go out of bed.
She dragged the emperor’s arm who doesn’t want to take a walk and went around the garden and exhausted herself.
But Marie seemed to have a big misunderstanding about them holding hands.
“We’re not close.”
I think he’s the enemy.
Serina had never seen Ishid smile brightly. It was natural that Serina would be annoyed each time. Then Marie smiled and said.
“Well, it’s the first time I’ve seen His Majesty have a woman near him, other than Count Lowell.”
“If it is Count Lowell…….”
“You haven’t met her, have you? Because the Count is in the north and doesn’t come to the capital very often.”
“No, I’ve heard of her. You mentioned Sr. Lowell back then.”
[T/n: Keeping the Sr. Lowell even if she is a female as she is regarded as a knight here as well as the Count.]
“Yes, that’s right. His Majesty and her are on good terms. Currently, she is in the Northern Territory.”
Marie even answered what she didn’t ask with a big smile. Most of the time, Serina already knew about it.
Lily Lowell was a knight called the Queen of the North. It was no exaggeration to say that all the imperial frontier defenses go through her.
She was revered as the shield of the empire because of her excellent prevention of the annual invasion of demons. She was Ishid’s childhood companion.
‘She’s also the one who got the red Ishling.’
She was also the only woman ever to receive a red Ishling, so she was very popular among aristocratic youngsters. Then Marie suddenly lowered her voice.
“Oh, by the way. Ms. Serina should keep this to yourself.”
“What is it?”
Naturally, Serina also lowered her voice to match hers. Then Marie looked around and whispered.
“I heard the count has a love triangle with His Majesty and Sir Leonard.”
Marie adored Lily and politely called her Count. Serena laughed automatically because Marie was cute.
“Really?”
“Yes. There’s a rumor that the count doesn’t come to the capital because he doesn’t want to have a crack in their friendship.”
“I see.”
Serena smirked and lost interest in it. It was because Serina knew the rumor well. The bottom line was a fake rumor.
The emperor’s woman was someone else. It was Lucy Carter, the sister of Leonard Carter.
When Ophelia Greenwood was about to be crowned Empress, she remembered that the emperor suddenly announced his engagement and caused a stir. Serina uttered, shaking her head.
“Marie. The rumor is fake.”
Marie is her close friend. Thus, she tries to correct the false rumor. Then Marie asked with her eyes wide open.
“What? Really?”
“Yes, His Majesty has a different woman in mind.”
