Chapter 10: It's A Date
For most of its existence, the Finger Bearer believed itself to be the pinnacle of Cursed Spirits.
A being of absolute terror, born from the malice and suffering of humanity, empowered by Sukuna's finger.
But right now?
Right now, it was experiencing something it never expected.
Humiliation.
The creature let out an enraged roar, but it was swiftly drowned out by the one-sided beatdown it was receiving.
Maki, Panda, and Toge were merciless.
The Finger Bearer attempted to counter with a barrage of cursed energy blasts, but Maki spun her halberd with precision, slicing through each projectile mid-air, sending the remains scattering in glowing embers.
"Freeze."
Toge commanded.
Immediately, the Finger Bearer's body froze solid, encased in a thick layer of cursed ice. It let out a muffled growl, its movements locked in place.
Panda wasted no time. With his cursed energy-infused gauntlets, he lunged forward and rapidly slammed his fists into the Finger Bearer's skull and ribs. The sheer force of the impact sent the spirit flying across the battlefield, crashing through a pile of broken mannequins.
The ice shattered as the Finger Bearer roared, seething with rage.
From a safe distance, Yuta and Rika sat watching the spectacle unfold. Yuta lazily lounged on his makeshift mannequin seat, arms crossed, while Rika fed him popcorn.
"Booooo!"
Yuta called out, cupping his hands around his mouth.
"You can do better than that!"
The Finger Bearer's four eyes twitched, its frustration building. It let out another guttural roar before gathering an immense sphere of cursed energy between its claws, far larger than its previous attacks. The sheer pressure of it warped the air, crackling like unstable electricity. With a snarl, it hurled the massive blast directly at Maki, Panda, and Toge.
For a moment, the attack seemed overwhelming.
But then Panda stepped forward, planting his feet firmly into the ground. His massive paws caught the cursed energy sphere mid-flight, the force pushing him back slightly as he redirected it away with sheer brute strength. The redirected blast exploded in the distance, obliterating an entire section of the domain.
Maki used the opening. In a flash, she leaped above the Finger Bearer, her halberd gleaming under the flickering light. She swung downward with a crushing strike, forcing the creature into close combat. Their weapons clashed, but Maki was faster. Stronger. Every blow she landed sent tremors through the spirit's body.
"Is this all you can do?"
Maki taunted, smirking as she kicked the Finger Bearer straight toward Toge.
Toge calmly cleared his throat before speaking.
"Blast away."
A powerful shockwave erupted from his voice, launching the Finger Bearer high into the air.
Before it could react, Panda was already waiting above.
"Death from above!"
Panda bellowed, slamming both fists down with monstrous strength.
The impact cratered the ground below, leaving the Finger Bearer embedded in the rubble, its body twitching in pain.
A small piece of debris rolled near Yuta's feet. He picked it up, weighed it in his hand, and casually threw it at the groaning Finger Bearer.
*Plink.*
"Boo."
Yuta called out once more, tossing another piece.
"You suck at this."
The Finger Bearer's twitching grew erratic, its clawed fingers digging into the ground. It let out a sharp, strangled noise, somewhere between a growl and a scream. The humiliation had reached its limit.
Its cursed energy flared wildly, pulsing outward in an uncontrollable wave. Its body spasmed as its aura turned chaotic, distorting the air around it. The walls of the cursed domain trembled violently, cracks forming along the surface.
The Finger Bearer had lost all sense of logic.
It was raging.
Wild, frenzied cursed energy blasts erupted in every direction, striking the already unstable domain. The entire space trembled, the atmosphere becoming unstable.
Yuta, still seated with his arms crossed, whistled in amusement as he leaned toward Rika.
"Look at that. It's throwing a tantrum."
Maki, Panda, and Toge readied themselves, their expressions turning serious once more.
The battlefield was about to collapse.
The Finger Bearer had lost all sense of reason. Its four glowing eyes burned with blind fury as it unleashed a frantic barrage of cursed energy blasts in every direction. The collapsing domain trembled violently, the floor beginning to give way beneath them.
Maki quickly drove her halberd into the ground, using it as an anchor to keep herself from falling into the abyss below. Panda slammed his massive paws into the floor, gripping the crumbling surface with raw strength.
Toge, however, wasn't as lucky. His footing slipped, and he began to plummet into the darkness, until a pale, elongated arm shot out from the shadows and caught him midair.
"Tuna."
Toge muttered in gratitude as Rika's monstrous hand held him steady.
Meanwhile, Yuta remained standing on the crumbling platform as if gravity had no claim over him. He calmly redirected multiple cursed energy blasts with casual backhand slaps, each deflected shot exploding harmlessly into the abyss below. He didn't even look bothered.
The Finger Bearer, still lost in its rage, locked onto Yuta, the same human who had mocked it, humiliated it, spit on its existence with his indifference.
It let out a monstrous roar and lunged, its claws coated in a thick veil of cursed energy, ready to tear Yuta apart.
"Yuta!"
Maki called out, gripping her halberd tighter as she watched the creature close the distance.
Yuta, in contrast, just stretched his arms and rolled his shoulders, he mused lazily.
"Oh well, I guess it's back to work."
The moment the Finger Bearer was inches away from striking him, Yuta simply extended his left pinky finger, reinforcing it with cursed energy.
And then...
*Flick*
The impact was devastating.
The Finger Bearer's entire chest caved in as a massive cavity formed in the center of its torso.
Purple blood spewed from its mouth as it was blown away, its massive body sent flying downward into the abyss.
The force of Yuta's flick was so overwhelming that the last remnants of the already crumbling floor completely collapsed, sending everyone plummeting downward.
Yuta remained relaxed even as he free-fell, the wind whipping past him.
Panda, on the other hand, flailed his limbs in pure panic.
"Yuta-kun, do something!!"
Maki, as expected, kept her composure, skillfully leaping from falling debris to slow her descent.
Toge, ever calm, grabbed onto a pile of broken mannequins and muttered.
"Caviar."
Yuta, unfazed, called out.
"Rika-chan, catch the others while I take care of Finger Blaster over there."
"YUTA!"
Rika bellowed in acknowledgment.
Rika's massive form manifested below them, her enormous arms snatching Maki and Toge safely midair. Panda, however, found himself dangling awkwardly by the scruff of his neck, held between Rika's fangs.
He let out a deep sigh.
"I appreciate it, Rika-chan, but did you really have to carry me like this?"
Maki, comfortably held in Rika's arm, smirked and she patted Rika's arm in gratitude.
"Oh man up, Panda."
Meanwhile, Yuta continued his descent, casually adjusting his sleeves as he free-fell toward the now severely injured Finger Bearer. The creature lay sprawled out, its body broken, its cursed energy flickering erratically.
Despite its monstrous form, despite its mindless rage, there was something new in its expression.
**Fear.**
Yuta noticed it instantly. He smirked.
"So, even Special Grade Curses know fear?"
His voice was dripping with disappointment.
"That's a shame. Here I thought you were stronger."
The Finger Bearer tried to move, tried to gather its remaining strength.
But Yuta didn't give it the chance.
*Flick*
This time, he aimed for its face.
The shockwave that followed sent the Finger Bearer crashing toward the ground at terrifying speed, the force of the flick embedding its body deep into the hospital's cracked floor.
A moment later, the entire Innate Domain shattered, the distorted reality peeling away like glass.
They were back in the abandoned hospital.
Dust settled. The dim, flickering hospital lights buzzed overhead.
And there, laying in a ruined heap on the cold floor, was the Finger Bearer. It let out weak, agonized gasps, its body twitching, unable to move.
Yuta landed softly in front of it, hands in his pockets. His usual friendly smile was gone, replaced with something much colder.
"Pathetic."
He spat on the broken Cursed Spirit.
Rika descended gently, still cradling Maki and Toge while Panda dangled in her teeth.
Panda let out a sigh.
"I'm really glad we survived and all, but Rika-chan, can you please let me down?"
Rika stared at him for a moment before unceremoniously dropping him on the floor.
"Ow."
Panda muttered, rubbing his head.
Maki stretched her limbs as she hopped off Rika's grasp, rolling her shoulders.
"That was a good fight."
Toge gave a simple nod.
"*Salmon.*"
Yuta exhaled, cracking his neck as he looked down at the barely alive Finger Bearer.
"Well, then."
Yuta approached his teammates, clapping his hands together.
"Congrats, guys! You all managed to last five minutes against it, so that means you get the first prize."
Maki, Panda, and Toge brightened at the news, pleased with their performance.
"But..."
Yuta continued with a smirk.
"... since it wasn't actually defeated and I kinda just flicked it into submission, no favors for any of you."
The trio instantly deflated.
Toge muttered in disappointment.
"Bonito flakes..."
Yuta turned back to the Finger Bearer, who was still weakly struggling to get up despite the devastating damage it had suffered. Rika pinned it down under her massive claws, ensuring it couldn't escape. Yuta tapped his chin thoughtfully before glancing back at his team.
"Tell you what, the first one to kill it gets the favor."
He offered.
Panda and Toge blinked, still processing the offer.
Maki, on the other hand, didn't hesitate.
The instant Yuta finished his sentence, she was already moving. Rika lifted her claw away, and with one swift motion, Maki swung her halberd, cleanly decapitating the Finger Bearer before following up with a precise bisecting strike down its torso.
The body parts hit the floor, and from within the mangled remains, something small and dark rolled out against the ground.
A Sukuna Finger.
Maki exhaled, resting her weapon on her shoulder. She turned to face the others and, with a smirk, declared.
"I win."
Yuta, Panda, and Toge stared at her in silence for a moment.
Then, Yuta grinned.
"Congrats, Maki-chan. Looks like you win both prizes."
Panda shrugged.
"I guess that's fair. Good job, Maki-chan."
Toge nodded.
"Salmon."
As Rika happily devoured the remains of the Finger Bearer, Maki bent down, picking up the Cursed Object. She examined it with mild curiosity.
"So this is one of Sukuna's fingers..."
Yuta walked up beside her, giving it a casual glance.
"Yup. Looks like it's from his left pinky finger."
Maki tossed the finger at Yuta, who caught it effortlessly. Panda tilted his head.
"So, what are we gonna do with it?"
Yuta looked at him and grinned.
"Simple. I'm keeping it."
All three of them stared at him in disbelief.
"What? Why?"
Maki asked flatly.
Yuta held the finger up, twirling it between his fingers.
"The mission was to confirm the existence of the Cursed Womb and eliminate it. There was no mention of retrieving any Cursed Objects. So as long as you guys pretend you never saw this, no one would ever know, right?"
Panda scratched his chin, considering it.
"Well… I don't really mind, as long as you don't get hurt, Yuta-kun."
Toge nodded.
"Tuna mayo."
Maki, however, looked at Yuta as if he were an absolute idiot. She sighed, rubbing her temple.
"You better know what you're doing."
Yuta tossed the finger to Rika, who stored it away in her void. He then stretched his arms behind his head and said.
"Relax, I was planning on collecting all twenty fingers anyway. And once I do, I'll figure something out in the future."
Maki rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, because that sounds like a great idea."
With the mission officially over, the four of them exited the hospital. The night air was crisp, and the weight of battle slowly faded as they returned to normal conversation.
Yuta clapped his hands.
"Alright! So, what do you guys want for your prize?"
Panda perked up instantly.
"A big panda-themed futon!"
Yuta chuckled.
"Done."
He turned to Toge.
"How about you, Toge-kun?"
Toge pulled out his phone and showed Yuta a picture of an absurdly expensive cooking set.
Yuta whistled.
"Fancy. Alright, done. But in exchange, I wanna try your cooking sometime."
Toge nodded, satisfied.
"Salmon."
Finally, Yuta turned to Maki.
"And you, Maki-chan? Since you won two prizes, what do you want?"
Maki hesitated for a moment as she thought about it. Then, an idea formed in her mind.
She turned to Panda and Toge.
"Panda, Toge. You two go ahead first."
Panda blinked.
"Huh? Why would..."
Then, realization dawned on him.
A smug grin spread across his face, and without another word, he grabbed Toge and practically dragged him toward the car.
"Alright, let's go, Toge! You still owe me 2,000 yen!"
Toge didn't resist, merely glancing between Yuta and Maki before nodding.
"Tuna."
The two vanished, leaving Yuta and Maki standing outside the hospital alone.
Yuta turned to Maki with a smile.
"So?"
Maki, now feeling slightly bashful, scratched the back of her neck.
"Are you free... tomorrow evening?"
Yuta nodded, feigning ignorance despite already knowing where this was going.
"Yeah, why?"
Maki, clearly struggling to form her words, turned away slightly, her face tinged with a faint blush.
"There's this… newly opened Burger King. They have this limited-edition spicy burger, but… it could only be ordered by couples."
She cleared her throat and quickly added.
"So, I was wondering if... you know..."
Yuta finished her sentence for her.
"You want me to pretend to be your boyfriend and use your first prize for me to pay for everything?"
Maki's face immediately went red.
She pointed a finger at Yuta, stumbling over her words.
"D-Don't get the wrong idea! I-I just wanted to try the damn burger, and you're paying for my dinner! So you better be ready to empty your pockets, Y-Yuta!"
Yuta smiled as he nods.
"Alright then, Maki-chan. It's a date."
Yuta said, hands in his pockets as he turned and started walking toward the car.
Maki froze.
Her brain crashed and her face burned red.
"HUH?!"
Yuta whistled happily, enjoying the evening stroll.
Maki quickly snapped out of her daze and stomped after him, yelling at the top of her lungs.
"DON'T CALL IT A DATE, YOU IDIOT!"
