Chapter 213: **Chapter 210: Kaito: A Little Moved**
"It shouldn't be that serious, right...?"
Kaito Kuroba was a bit stunned.
He thought, it's just blowing up a substation, right?
How could it cause any deaths?
But after hearing what Fujino said, he began to feel a bit scared.
As for Kaito's reaction...
Fujino thought: *This kid's mind might not be all there.*
Causing such a big scene and thinking no one would die?
To put it nicely, it's just a means for theft.
But to put it bluntly, it's terrorism.
If this were in the United States, you'd definitely get some serious blowback... Oh wait, they've got their own problems over there, so maybe not.
But honestly, thinking about it carefully, in this world, it might actually be true that no one would...
That didn't stop Fujino from continuing, though.
It's all part of the game.
"You mentioned the hospital has backup power."
Fujino paused before continuing, "But as a detective, I've studied a bit of medicine... An operating table is like a battlefield. Once the power goes out, even with backup power, it takes several seconds to start up."
"You studied medicine too?"
Kaito looked at Fujino with a puzzled expression, his lips twitching.
What *doesn't* this guy know?
"That's not the point."
Fujino took a deep breath. "The point is, those few seconds of power loss are enough to let a patient, who's relying on medical equipment, die on the operating table."
Hearing this, Kaito frowned.
He didn't know much about this sort of thing.
But somehow, what Fujino said made sense.
"So honestly, I'm disappointed in you."
Fujino shook his head, his calm eyes locked onto Kaito's, with a hint of disappointment in his tone. "I thought you were a different kind of thief, but it turns out you're just this kind of person."
"I..."
Facing Fujino's verbal onslaught, Kaito found himself at a loss for words.
He didn't know what to say.
For some strange reason, Kaito felt a little wronged.
It was like he had let down his father's expectations.
He began to doubt whether blowing up the substation was the right thing to do.
Seeing Kaito's conflicted expression, Fujino's lips curled up slightly. "Actually, I wouldn't mind helping you with something."
"What kind of help?"
Kaito snapped back to attention and looked at Fujino.
"If you give up on blowing up the substation."
Fujino paused, "I can tell you where the Memory Egg is."
Kaito was shocked. "Uh... did you just say you'll tell me where the Memory Egg is?"
He didn't mishear, right?
This guy was actually offering to tell him where the Memory Egg was?
Is this for real?
"If that's what it takes to stop you from blowing up the substation."
Fujino sighed, like he was making a decision that went against his principles, then pointed to an unremarkable building nearby. "The Memory Egg is hidden there."
Kaito stared at Fujino, feeling completely dumbfounded.
Suddenly, he felt like the real villain.
"I understand... This time, I owe you one."
Kaito sighed deeply, turned around, spread his glider wings, and leaped off. He threw a card back to Fujino. "Thanks, detective."
He had been troubled over whether to continue with the plan to blow up the substation.
He never expected Fujino to break his own principles as a detective for him...
Thinking about it, Kaito felt a complex emotion rise in his chest.
Kaito: A little moved.
Fujino caught the card, which had a phone number on it.
"Don't mention it."
He waved with a smile, watching Kaito Kid disappear into the distance. Fujino's lips curled into a slight smile.
Got him.
---
Soon after, Kaito arrived at the building Fujino had pointed out.
After some skillful trickery, he managed to steal the Memory Egg from Nakamori Ginzo.
"Kaito Kid!"
Nakamori shouted in anger as Kaito Kid fled, his expression full of rage.
But once Kaito was gone, Nakamori's face calmed down.
A smile appeared: "As expected of Fujino, Kaito Kid took the bait!"
"Chief, the Memory Egg has been stolen!"
One of Nakamori's officers rushed over, panicking.
"Relax."
Nakamori waved him off. "He only stole a fake."
"A fake?"
"Exactly. It was all part of Fujino's plan."
Nakamori explained, "We placed a fake on display, and I secretly kept the real one. The real Memory Egg is hidden somewhere else."
"As expected from Detective Fujino."
The officer nodded in realization, impressed.
---
At Tsutenkaku Tower.
The tower was tall, offering a view over all of Osaka.
That's why Kaito Kid chose it as his observation point.
Fujino remained at the top.
With his visual-enhancement glasses, he zoomed in and watched Kaito Kid steal the Memory Egg and make his escape.
"So, he got it?"
Fujino followed Kaito's white silhouette with his enhanced vision. His gaze tracked the direction Kaito was heading, eventually landing on a large bridge.
"It should be there."
Fujino silently turned off his glasses, put on his helmet, pulled out a grappling hook, and rappelled down from the tower.
Reaching the bottom, he looked around.
He found a quiet spot, retrieved a motorcycle from his portable storage, disguised it as another bike using his Kamen Rider pendant, and sped off in the direction of the bridge at high speed.
The taillight left a red streak behind.
By the time Fujino arrived, the ground was littered with equipment.
A broken monocle, a scattered box revealing the fake Memory Egg, and a fat injured white pigeon that looked like it would roast up nicely.
"Did the loot drop?"
Fujino squatted, collecting the fake Memory Egg into his storage. "At least no one's dead."
No trip should go to waste.
Even though it was fake, the egg was still worth some money.
A nice keepsake.
