Chapter 57: Chapter 56:Arrival at Sorbet Kingdom
The Nexus Pirates had finally arrived at the Sorbet Kingdom, a land split between wealth and suffering. Issho and Mikita stayed to watch the ship. The inner city was an elegant fortress, filled with nobles and government officials, their pristine buildings coated in frost but shielded from the harsh winds by thick walls. In contrast, the outer district was a desolate wasteland of ruined homes and starving citizens, their ragged clothes barely offering protection from the biting cold.
Jason stood at the ship's helm, his golden eyes scanning the kingdom with sharp intensity. He closed his eyes for a moment, activating his Observation Haki. His senses stretched through the land, filtering through thousands of presences until he located a familiar faint heartbeat—a church in the slums, where Jewelry Bonney was being held.
He smirked. "I found her."
Reiju crossed her arms, her blue eyes narrowing. "A church? Sounds too easy."
"Churches in places like this are rarely holy," Robin added with a knowing smirk.
Jason turned to his crew. "Let's move."
A Walk Through the Slums
As they made their way through the decayed streets, Jason's crew drew attention. The people of the outer district, eyes hollow from hunger and suffering, whispered among themselves.
Koala frowned. "This place is worse than I expected."
Monet observed the children huddled in alleyways.
Jason exhaled slowly. "We'll deal with this later. For now, let's focus on our mission."
Suddenly, Law spoke. "We're being watched."
Jason's lips curled. "CP8?"
Law nodded. "They've been tailing us since we entered the district."
"Let them come," Jason muttered, cracking his knuckles. "I was getting bored anyway."
The Church and the CP8 Ambush
The church loomed before them, a grim and foreboding structure that resembled a prison more than a place of worship. Its stone walls were covered in ice, and its towering iron doors seemed impenetrable. But Jason knew better.
As he raised his hand to knock, his Observation Haki flared—a disturbance in the air. In an instant, he tilted his head to the right, effortlessly dodging a silent bullet aimed at his skull.
Then, ten masked figures emerged from the shadows, their black uniforms marking them as CP8 agents. They surrounded the crew in a tight formation, their weapons drawn.
"Leave," one of them ordered, his voice cold and emotionless. "Or die."
Jason chuckled, cracking his neck. "You say that like it's a real choice."
The CP8 agents didn't hesitate—they lunged.
The Battle Begins
Bepo dashed forward first, his Moon-Moon Fruit abilities allowing him to move with inhuman speed. He vanished from sight, reappearing behind an agent and slamming his fist into the man's spine, sending him crashing into a frozen wall.
Koala leaped into the air, flipping gracefully as she clawed through an agent's throat with her feline reflexes. "Too slow," she whispered, dodging a blade aimed at her ribs before countering with a swift, electrified kick.
Reiju summoned lightning, her Thunderbird abilities crackling in the air. She electrified her wings, shooting forward at supersonic speed and piercing through an agent's chest like a spear. "You shouldn't have challenged us," she muttered as the body fell lifelessly to the ground.
Monet transformed into snow, dodging a barrage of gunfire before freezing an agent solid with a single touch.
Robin smirked as dozens of arms sprouted from the ground, snapping bones and breaking necks in an instant.
Law stood back, forming his Room. "Shambles." In the blink of an eye, the heads of two CP8 agents swapped places, their bodies collapsing as their consciousness faded.
Jason? He didn't even move
One agent rushed him, swinging a dagger aimed at his throat. Jason merely flicked his wrist, sending a shockwave through the air that crushed the agent's ribs instantly. Another tried to stab him from behind, but Jason vanished, reappearing behind them. His fist met their spine. Crack. Another one down.
Within minutes, all ten CP8 agents lay dead in the snow, their blood painting the white ground crimson.
Jason sighed. "That was disappointing."
Monet smirked. "They weren't worth the warm-up."
"Let's go," Jason said, striding toward the iron doors of the church. With a single kick, the heavy doors exploded inward, sending shards of metal flying.
Inside, the dimly lit church revealed two figures.
A beautiful woman in a nurse's uniform stood defensively, eyes wide with shock. Behind her, on a hospital bed, lay a small pink-haired girl—Jewelry Bonney.
"Who are you?!" the nurse demanded before lunging at Jason with a powerful kick.
Jason sidestepped, his hand moving faster than she could react—he chopped her neck, knocking her unconscious in a single move. "Too slow."
"Bepo," Jason ordered, "lock her in the dungeon."
Bepo nodded, lifting the unconscious nurse over his shoulder.
Jason turned back to Bonney, who remained unconscious on the bed. "Law."
Law activated Room, his fingers glowing with surgical precision as he scanned Bonney's body.
"There are traces of cell transplantation," Law muttered, his brows furrowing. "But her condition is stable." With a flick of his wrist, he deactivated Room. "She'll be fine."
Jason sat beside Bonney and gently shook her awake. Her violet eyes fluttered open—the moment she saw Jason, tears welled up in her eyes, and she started sobbing uncontrollably.
Jason hesitated before pulling her into a gentle embrace. "What's wrong?"
Through her hiccupping sobs, Bonney clutched Jason's shirt. "I want… my father."
Jason's gaze softened. He didn't know much about Bonney's past, but he knew one thing—she was searching for Bartholomew Kuma.
Jason brushed her hair gently. "If you join my crew, I'll help you find your father. That's a promise."
Bonney's eyes widened. She sniffled, then slowly nodded. "Okay."
Jason smiled. "Welcome to the Nexus Pirates, Jewelry Bonney."
Back on the ship, Bonney was introduced to the crew. Robin knelt beside her, speaking softly as she comforted the girl. Reiju brought her a warm meal, and Monet draped a soft fur cloak over her shoulders.
Meanwhile, Sugar—excited to have someone her age—sat beside Bonney, chatting animatedly.
"How old are you?" Sugar asked.
Bonney blinked. "I… I don't know anymore. My Devil Fruit keeps changing my age."
Sugar giggled. "That's so cool!"
Bonney smiled for the first time in years.
Watching from the side, Jason nodded in satisfaction. His crew was growing stronger—not just in power, but as a family.
With Bonney safely aboard, Jason turned to his crew. "Next stop—the East Blue."
As the Nexus sailed away from the Sorbet Kingdom, Jason knew this was only the beginning.
The world was vast.
And his journey to the throne had only just begun.
