Chapter 38: Is Obito Poisoned?
Jiraiya couldn't believe what he was hearing from Fugaku. The Uchiha head smirked with pride, but Jiraiya was left feeling flabbergasted. When did he become so shameless?
Was this conflict simply a joke played out between the higher-ups of Konoha and the Uchiha clan?
Those on the side of the third hokage may perceive him as weak if he admits to being afraid of Spar. Such an impression could potentially damage the reputation of Konoha's leadership and further intensify the already tense relationship between the village and the Uchiha clan. What are Uchiha Fugaku's intentions?
"Jiraiya-sama, it was just a friendly spar. No hard feelings. Here, take this." Fugaku handed the monocular to Jiraiya and continued, "Let's agree upon a time and place. In three days' time, let's meet on the grounds near Hokage Rock in the afternoon. I'll be there."
He walked away without waiting for Jiraiya’s response, leaving him speechless. Fugaku’s actions had shaken Jiraiya’s worldview. He wondered why they had never crossed paths before or why Fugaku had challenged him to sparring. But it seemed he had no choice but to accept. Even though he had faith that Fugaku wouldn't resort to underhanded tactics, he couldn't help but wonder, What if?'
With a sense of helplessness, Jiraiya glanced at the monocular in his grasp, then back at the retreating figure of Fugaku. His mind began to wander, drawn to the enticing images of the women at the bathhouse.
Eventually, his thoughts turned to Minato. He sighed resignedly.

"Never mind, let’s give this a shot." He cut his finger, allowing a drop of blood to fall on a straw's base. Concealing any irregularity, he picked up a carton of milk and headed for the training site.
"Obito, have a drink. You’ve put in a lot of effort training today," Fugaku suggested, maintaining a stoic expression.
After all, it was just a droplet of blood. Even if it didn’t work, it wouldn’t cause any harm.
Obito was still engrossed in his training. Fugaku’s concern moved him to tears, making him feel as if the clan leader was his own parent.Without giving it much thought, he gulped down the milk, oblivious to the fact that he was about to become an unwitting test subject. After a brief respite, Obito returned to his training, continuing to form hand signs and channel chakra.
"Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!"
Compared to other C-rank jutsu, the power of this jutsu was significantly different. He couldn't hide his disappointment with a shake of his head and a sigh.
As the first training session seemed to draw to a close, Fugaku turned his gaze towards the sky and announced, "That will be all for today. If you wish to continue practicing, feel free. I shall take my leave now."
"Understood, clan leader" Obito replied.
After Fugaku’s departure, Obito was left feeling disheartened, questioning whether he was more of a burden than a help. Kakashi, at the age of nine, had already achieved the rank of chunin and successfully completed numerous dangerous missions. In contrast, Obito found himself still struggling to master a single jutsu.
Gazing at Hokage Rock, he let out a sigh and wondered, "At this pace, when will my face be carved on there?"
Suddenly, he felt a burning heat rushing through his body, making him sweat buckets. Obito stripped off his clothes, frantically fanning himself, but it didn’t make a bit of difference.
"What the hell is happening?" he wondered aloud.
Despite being bare, he still felt intense heat. Could there be poison in the milk the clan leader gave him? All of a sudden, Obito was scared out of his wits. But why would the clan leader want to kill him? He was already more than strong enough for him.
As he couldn’t make sense of it, the scorching heat gradually cooled down. He looked at his soaked body and finally heaved a sigh of relief—he was still alive. It turns out that he jumped to the wrong conclusion.
---------------------------------------------------
"When are you going to negotiate with me, Third Hokage?" He muttered to himself, lying on the bed with his hand behind his head.
He knew that the higher-ups in Konoha would not ignore his threat for long. They would surely come to negotiate with him sooner or later.
He had his own spies watching the movements of the village leaders. He had also warned Akihiko to be on guard at all times. As soon as he sensed any trouble, he would storm into Root’s hideout and capture them.
"Honey, what are you thinking about?" Mikoto asked, standing beside Fugaku with her big belly and a smile.
Fugaku smiled back, pushing away his worries. He sat up and caressed Mikoto’s belly. "Nothing, I was just thinking... Our son will be born soon, and then..."
