Chapter 69: Conspiracy
Oll was trying to hack Rachel.
A while ago, he had managed to obtain an incarnation. He thought that he should be able to hack it, but he was wrong.
At least in a short time, it's not possible unless more incarnations, and especially main incarnations, can be obtained.
Main incarnations are the first incarnations that appear in a world directly created by Rachel. They are much more helpful than secondary incarnations, which are indirectly made by main incarnations.
"Anyways, with the Anti-Rachel Alliance, I am going to have a lot of help soon," he thought.
Things are moving with lightning speed with preparations to make a move against Rachel, but still, lightning speed for rank 13 civilizations may take millions of years.
Oll was recently promoted to assistant chief of research in the Great Dream. It was the result of the election, which Rex, one of his friends, won.
Rex won the position of CEO only a few years ago, but in this very short time, he has already completed his transition. It shows he really is planning to cut bureaucracy and speed things up.
The Great Dream is governed by many complicated laws, boards, and commissions that even the best mortal lawyers can't wrap their heads around.
It is the result of many years of divided power and compromise. However, with Rex winning the position of CEO and, more importantly, having a majority of the Board of Governors, this dysfunctional system can be cut back.
Oll returned to his research, but in the middle, everywhere began to shake.
...
Rex was very young, less than 1 trillion years old. This age is considered extremely young, almost a toddler when you compare him with other rank 11 higher-ups of the Great Dream.
The very old age and immortality of the higher-ups are the true reasons that nothing has changed in the Great Dream for so long.
But finally, after losing a lot of worlds to Rachel, the younger generation voted the old leadership out.
Elections in the Great Dream are not democratic. Not everyone has the same vote.
Rank 1 to rank 9 members have 1 vote each. Rank 10 members have 1 billion votes each. Rank 11 members have 1 trillion votes each.
Still, because the population is so large, people of rank 1 to 9 can outvote rank 10 and above.
But if even 5% of them decide not to vote or vote for candidates of the old leadership, it would be impossible for the old leadership to lose, as the higher ranks almost always want to keep the status quo. Even after losing many worlds to Rachel, they were still unwilling to change.
But in the last election, a miracle happened.
With almost 100 percent turnout and more than 99% of the rank 1 to 9 voting for Rex, the old leadership finally lost after who knows how long.
But even though the leadership changed, an overwhelming majority of high-ranking people were still loyal to the old leadership. Rex won the board and had the legal authority to control the rank 12 universal law and abolish all useless bureaucracies.
However, he will face passive resistance from many people in leadership positions. He can't replace them because suitable replacements are nonexistent.
Still, Rex will push for change because the current trajectory is heading for a bad ending. "There is still time!" he thought.
Boom!
Everywhere began to shake violently!
"Report! An unknown universal law is attacking the world!" someone reported.
"What? Why? Out of nowhere, who would attack?" Rex was astonished.
Attacking other civilizations is a very unrewarding job. You can't gain any universal law, and any attack would cost more than anything you can loot.
"It's unknown!"
"Activate the universal law; protect the headquarters!" he shouted.
Their headquarters is a rank 12 world, created with the universal law of 'Existence.' With the help of many advanced formations, they can simultaneously use it for both maintaining the world at rank 12 and for utilizing the universal law for other purposes.
Another boom came, greatly damaging the superficial laws of the world!
Rex didn't wait anymore and decided to act personally.
As CEO, he can utilize the universal law with ease.
...
"So powerful," said Zagronan, watching as Rachel hit the headquarters of the Great Dream.
"Yeah, it's cool, right? It's just one universal law; I have more than a thousand more," she bragged.
"Yeah, why are we attacking again?" he asked with confusion.
A while ago, Rachel suddenly took him and brought him to the endless space.
Usually, endless space should kill anyone below rank 10, like Pride #1, who was demoted to rank 9 as soon as he got out of the world's rules and killed by chaos energy.
But Rachel had given him the Main Protagonist Luck!
Quite literally, the protagonist's halo protected him. Seriously. When he got into the endless space, a golden halo came out and protected him from all harm.
After a while, Rachel coded around with realization energy and created a temporary world, eliminating the need for protagonist halo protection.
The protagonist's halo can defend against everything, but the consumption of luck is enormous.
As for how Rachel brought him here, he has no idea.
"As I said, it is an order!" she explained again.
A while ago, a rank 13 incarnation in the regional headquarters ordered her to attack the Great Dream. Some additional resources, along with access to one specialized universal law, were provided.
The universal law of 'Instant Dream Traveling of the chaotic energy based on the 2nd.'
This universal law is a secret, so it's not one of the available universal laws. As for why it's a secret, it's because it's very specialized.
Universal laws like 'Space block' can't stop it. Rachel doesn't think any rank 12 civilization can block such an advanced space travel universal law.
Its mechanism is simple: one can go wherever one dreams if the place has chaotic energy.
As for why not use more broad laws that Rachel has, like the universal law of space travel, it's because she wants to avoid using a broad universal law and getting overruled.
Space travel is more specialized than 'existence,' but a universal law like 'space block' can stop it. She doesn't have 'space block,' and the one who owns it is near this area.
"Who ordered?" asked Zagronan.
"The regional headquarters!" she answered.
"What is the regional headquarters?" he asked again.
"The headquarters for this region!"
"Then, at least say why are we attacking?" he asked.
"I don't know, just an order!" Rachel answered.
Zagronan sighed and didn't talk anymore.
Just as they were speaking, a man appeared in the endless space. He was huge! His size was larger than even many rank 13 worlds!
Rachel shook her head.
"It's fake, a projection!" Rachel sneered.
She had already read a lot from the database about high-grade battles.
"Who are you?" Rex asked, his voice so loud that the world Rachel made shook. He was doing all this with the universal law of 'existence.'
There are few things one cannot do with the universal law of 'existence.'
Rachel didn't answer; instead, she used the universal law of 'seal in vision.' The universal law of seal in vision is more specialized than 'Existence,' so it fell on Rex and began sealing him. It overruled 'existence' and successfully sealed him!'
With one more move, Rachel won!
She attacked the projection, but the target was Rex's main body.
The universal law of seal can seal anyone and thing in the user's 'vision,' even though Rex wasn't personally there, he was 'in vision' of Rachel.
It also has other abilities, but Rachel does not care about them.
It didn't destroy the Great Dream; it just sealed one rank 11 person.
Destroying a rank 12 world is much more complex and energy-consuming, even if the universal law overrules the world. Because massive quantities of realization energy magnify the effects of universal laws, so even if the universal law is Broad, with great consumption, it can resist being overruled.
But it only works if the universal law is embedded in the world.
It can only be used for defense, not attack.
Well, technically, it can be used for attack, but consumption would be unimaginably high.
There are other tasks, too, such as cleanup afterward.
Never underestimate the cleanup job; it might be more challenging than creating a world.
"We are done," Rachel smiled.
She didn't expect it to be so easy!
The target this time was not Great Dream itself; it was this man she had just sealed.
Then, she used 'Instant Dream Traveling of the chaotic energy based on 2nd' on the sealed Rex, who was hiding in the endless space, and sent him to the regional headquarters as ordered.
As for dreaming and this nonsense, for her, it's nothing. Only mortals may have a problem with their dreams. Even rank 1 mages can dream whatever they want.
Rachel technically can't dream, so she can only dream by proxy using another universal law.
Like using the universal law of reality, temporarily making a brain, making it dream.
Not a hard task.
With the task done, Rachel cast the same teleportation spell again and left.
For attacking and destroying a rank 12 world, she is not enough.
After all, she is a pill container who can only superficially use universal laws. She cannot cast any spells. Using universal laws raw is like attacking with a chunk of steel without forging it into a sword.
Sure, it will still kill people, but very inefficiently.
She should wait for Zag to at least reach rank 10 before starting to destroy worlds.
...
Great Dream was shocked!
The CEO, who everyone hoped could turn everything around, disappeared like that. According to the rules, the past CEO again took over and reverted every change.
Low-level people were extremely unsatisfied but unable to do anything. After all, it's the law that the previous CEO takes over the position if the current one dies or gets incapacitated in any way, until the next election.
With everything lawful, nothing could be done.
Still, they had the board of governors, so they pinned their hopes there. But after a short time, several board members flipped, giving the previous CEO a majority again!
Hopes of low-level people shattered. Still, they were all rich, with even the lowest rank being rank 1, so it wasn't the end of the world for them. They decided to try their chance at the next election.
...
In a faraway place, Luther said emotionlessly, "Task number 94#L771... reward, 10 Medium chunks of reality points."
This Luther is not the host of the main body; instead, he's the host of the regional headquarters.
For some reason, Rachel loves the name Rachel, so when she places the Main incarnations, she puts them in a situation where the first host is Luther.
"Task number 47#A901... is done, reward, 10 Medium chunks of reality points," he said again.
After a few hours, he sighed and said, "Finally over! These days, tasks are getting more and more! I don't have the time for leisure at all!" he complained.
After the expansion policy, they eased up task conditions, so many more civilizations began paying up.
Rachel isn't only invading worlds; she also does tasks as long as the pay is enough.
Want to destroy the natural resources of your rival country? Pay up and get it done. Change the world's rules? Pay up and get it done. Destroy a world? Still, pay up, and it gets done! As long as the money is enough, everything can be done.
It wasn't like this before.
The conditions used to be harsh. But now, only money matters.
Luther guessed that the main Rachel lacked resources for rank 14 advancement. Otherwise, she wouldn't have taken this risk when they formed the Anti-Rachel Alliance.
After all, even though they are careful and investigate, any of these tasks might be a trap.
"Luther, I feel it's strange! How can we lack resources? What is the main body doing with all those resources?" she said. As a rank 13 Rachel, she knows a lot about how many resources they have.
"Oh, another task arrived! The Great Dream is putting up another task with a reward of 20 medium chunks of realization points! So rich!" he said.
A while ago, Great Dream put up an easy task with a lot of rewards. As a result, Rachel got it done quickly, trying to satisfy them.
She didn't expect them to be so satisfied that they sent a task like this!
As for Rex, who they arrested, that was not a part of the task. They got him and copied all the information in his head into the database.
"Task of alliance? They are using task letters as a way of communicating!" said Luther.
"Yeah, answer, we agree to the task!" said Rachel.
"Really? They should pay more if they want us to stop infiltrating!" said Luther.
"Yeah, but now the main body has put up a policy that says accept any alliance if it looks genuine. This Great Dream looks genuine, so we agree," Rachel said.
Rachel here disagreed with this decision but still fulfilled her duty faithfully.
She wouldn't have disagreed if she knew everything the main body knew about their situation.
Right now, stalling for time is the most important. If a rank 12 wants to help and is even giving money, why refuse? Attacking the world is unnecessary! She already has far more than required for rank 14.
She began sending a message to the local incarnation there about the news, instructing her not to attack Great Dream anymore.
As for the words she took until now, those are hers, never giving them back.
