Chapter 42
Charlotte couldn’t say anything but nodded.
“Well, I don’t know if this is possible because the Duke is busy, but I will ask him for this favor.”
“Yeah, so let’s start today’s class? Were you training meanwhile?”
“I did, but I still don’t know.”
Charlotte put her hand on the transparent crystal ball and closed her eyes. He told her to try to feel the energy flowing from the ball, but she couldn’t, no matter how much she tried.
From time to time she would feel something tickle her stomach, but it was only for a short time. Every time you try to focus on this feeling, it quickly disappears.
‘Ahh.’
Charlotte closed her eyes tightly and put her hand aimlessly. Then she felt someone put his hand on her stomach.
She wondered if Ahin could take such a bold touch, and she opened her eyes.
But Ahin was still sitting in front of her, watching her focus.
Charlotte lowered her head slowly, Theo was placing his gentle hand on Charlotte’s stomach and smiling innocently.
“Nona, here!”
Theo was gently rubbing Charlotte’s stomach, she thought he was just making a joke because of her focus.
But soon a faint light appeared, and she felt as if something was wriggling inside her stomach.
A mysterious feeling, which seemed to be warm and cold, slowly began to spread throughout the body.
“Oh.”
Ahin who was watching let out an impressive voice.
“Here! Here !”
Theo pointed with his other hand to the ball that Charlotte was touching at the same time the ball began to glow.
It was faint compared to the time Theo first touched it as it was glowing intensely.
Theo smiled.
“It”s done!”
The light on the crystal ball faded as the child raised his hand in the sky because he was excited.
The energy that was flowing through Charlotte’s body also turned back as if it had come and disappeared once more inside the ball.
At that moment Charlotte felt dizzy and nauseous, as if she was suffering from severe seasickness.
“Ugh.”
When she quickly covered her mouth to vomited, Theo rolled around and fidgeted.
“Are you well ?”
“Ah, it’s okay…. Ugh.”
“You feel dizzy due to the forceful influx of mana, it is a common symptom.”
Ahin carried a handkerchief and Charlotte did not hesitate and wiped her mouth with the tissue.
Charlotte picked up the Theo, who thought he did something wrong, puting up with the nausea and put it on her lap.
“What was that now?”
“The young master helped the young lady feel the mana. It is one of the last solutions for people who do not feel mana.”
“Of course I can’t touch the miss, so I had no intention of using such a method, but I think he instinctively helped the miss.”
“Really Theo?”
“Ah, … did it hurt?”
“I wasn’t hurt.”
Charlotte pressed her lips gently to his soft cheeks. Theo, who made clear that she was not angry, relaxed and laughed.
“Can you feel the mana now? Even if it’s not good with Young Master’s help, there can be some progress.”
Charlotte closed her eyes and focused again. Of course, she could sense that something was boiling inside her stomach.
She wasn’t able to transmit energy to her entire body yet as Theo helped her, but the feeling that lingered in her stomach didn’t go away yet.
“Yeah, I feel a little better than before.”
“You just have to focus on that feeling. Anyway, Young Master is definitely amazing. At this level, I think a master can slowly learn to control mana.”
“Really ?”
“Yes, thinking about it, the master will be this old soon. If that’s enough, I think I’ll be able to teach him how to control his mana soon.”
“He will be four years old….”
Charlotte thought of Theo’s birthday but did not think of a specific date. It must have been fall or winter, for she had never heard of a specific date for his birthday.
“When is Theo’s birthday?”
“It’s December 15th. He’s probably going to spend his birthday this year at Heinst’s territory .”
“What? On Theo’s birthday, Sister has to throw a birthday party for Theo. What do you think, Theo? I’ll bake you a big cake too.”
Theo, who was repeatedly playing by turning the light on and off by tapping his index finger on the crystal ball, turned his head back.
“Yes !”
Charlotte pressed his cheek, not hard enough to hurt, as she thought about what she would do for her child’s birthday.
‘I have to buy a lot of toys to give him a lot of delicious things.’
This will be the first and last time I spend Theo’s birthday with him.
I don’t know if he could remember this day when he was so young, but I wanted to create a memory for him so that he would remember me and say ‘I had a sister like that.’
Charlotte, who was planning a birthday party in her head, suddenly came back to reality and picked up the book from the desk.
‘What on earth does this mean?’
He must have known that Charlotte could not read the ancient language, but Carcel had the courage to bring out this book.
He couldn’t refuse her request to enter the library , but was this a ploy to prevent me from reading information on Rositos? Was this his message to give up?
‘Somehow, he let me in so easily.’
However, it was unknown what he was thinking at the moment.
Should I ask Carcel to explain it as Ahin said, or should I just give up?
After Charlotte thought about it, she decided to meet Carcel and talk to him.
***
That night, Charlotte put Theo on the bed and went to her room to wait for Carcel to come.
Chasing after the assassins who had targeted Theo, Carcel’s return was later than usual.
Despite Emma’s request to sleep on the bed, Charlotte fell asleep on the sofa with the book and woke up when she heard that Carcel had come.
As soon as she came out she saw Carcel trying to get into his bedroom.
He sensed her presence and turned around while lifting his hand from the doorknob.
“Have you not slept for this hour?”
“Yes .”
“It is late.”
So he was about to tell her to go back to her room quickly. But instead of going back to the room, Charlotte hurriedly approached him.
“I’ve been waiting for the Duke.”
startled He took a step back while looking at Charlotte who was about two steps away from him. Charlotte, who went back, carried the book with an embarrassed face.
“I mean, this book that the Duke gave me, it is in an ancient language.”
“Yes, this is correct .”
His voice, which was answering hesitantly, seemed to ask what the problem was.
Does this mean it wasn’t intentional?
Charlotte stammered, trying to understand clearly what was on his mind.
“So, you know, I can’t read the ancient language.”
“Yes I know .”
Oh, as expected. I have no choice but to ask directly. Charlotte decided to openly ask this man.
“Are you reluctant to reveal the information inside this book?”
Only then was Carcel’s response different and a bit sulky.
“What do you mean ?”
“I can’t read the old language. But you gave me this book and said it would help. So I thought you didn’t want me to learn about Theo or about the curse….”
Carcel, who usually responded immediately, fell silent for a while and looked into Charlotte’s eyes as he tried to understand what was in her head.
Charlotte also looked into his eyes to read what he was thinking. But she couldn’t read anything because his expression was rigid, expressionless.
Carcel broke the silence first.
“Didn’t you ask Ahin?”
“No, I did. Mr. Ahin also told me that this was an ancient language. But since it was a book from the duke’s personal library, he said he couldn’t read it recklessly and told me to ask you.”
“It doesn’t matter if Ahin see….”
Carcel, who was about to say something, closed his mouth for a moment before asking something else.
“Would it be okay now ?”
“yes I’m fine .”
“Aren’t you tired?”
Charlotte shook her head exaggeratedly.
“I’m not tired!”
“Then let’s go in.”
He loosened his tie a little and headed for the office.
As Robert had done last time, he put the key in, turned and opened the library door.
“Come in.”
Charlotte saw that Carcel was asking her to come in, and she entered.
They both sat at a table in front of the entrance to the library. Charlotte prevented Carcel from calling Robert.
“I drank a lot of tea, I’m fine.”
“Okay.”
He put on the bell and opened the book that Charlotte had given him. He looked at the table of contents on the first page of the book and opened the middle section and showed it to Charlotte.
“Maybe that’s what the miss needs.”
Charlotte bent her body near the table, looking at where he was putting his finger. What stood out the most was the pattern at the bottom of the page.
“Ah, these are the letters that were on Theo’s body.”
“Yes. Rosito’s symbol. You can tell right away that he’s a Rosito because it’s been engraved on his body from birth.”
Charlotte’s gaze inadvertently turned to Carcel’s left collarbone as she listened to his slow explanation.
