Chapter 22: [22]: Disgusting
"Wanna see if you can break it?" Cyr asked, his tone teasing, as he watched the golden-haired girl curiously fiddling with the chains. His face lit up with an amused smile.
Biscuit was momentarily stunned.
How could this brat ask such a question? Had he seen through her true strength? But she had hidden her aura perfectly, even simulating the natural "leakage" of ordinary people.
There was no way her disguise had flaws! This kid must be trying to trick her!
"Oh, you're so mean! I'm just a frail little girl~" she exclaimed, covering her face in mock embarrassment and stomping her foot dramatically.
Cyr's smile vanished instantly.
He had just used the only buff card, [Upright Moon], on himself.
One of its effects, which he had labeled "Reveal Illusions," allowed him to see through facades to uncover the truth.
Once the card activated, the delicate, golden-haired girl before him transformed into—
A towering, muscular woman over two meters tall, her physique rivaling Uvogin's.
Her face wasn't that of a young girl but rather bore a slightly aged, stern look.
And now, this imposing figure was coyly covering her face and stomping her foot…
"I'm going to puke." Cyr stated coldly, his voice dripping with disdain. In the blink of an eye, he vanished, unwilling to spare another glance.
This little brat—!
Biscuit clenched her fists, her knuckles cracking audibly.
Calm down. Boys this age were naturally tactless. No need to lose her temper.
Still, her grip on the chains involuntarily tightened, and with a slight exertion, she caused a visible crack to form.
Realizing what she'd done, Biscuit quickly let go, slipping back into her innocent little girl act before retreating from the scene.
"As expected, she can break the chains," Cyr mused from a distance, his Six Eyes capturing everything.
The golden-haired woman's life energy was extraordinarily potent, a beacon of vitality in his vision.
It seemed that those with stronger Nen than his could indeed break free from the Binding Chains. The immobilization effect likely had similar limitations.
Cyr couldn't cancel an already activated card, which seemed to be one of the inherent restrictions of his ability.
Another limitation was the range. The cards could only be applied to targets within the radius of his En. Fortunately, the range of En could be expanded with training, making this constraint manageable.
It wasn't surprising. In the world of Hunter x Hunter, Nen abilities were never truly invincible. They all came with unique rules and limitations, requiring the user to creatively navigate these constraints to maximize their effectiveness.
It added a layer of complexity and excitement. After all, an ability deemed universally invincible would quickly lose its charm.
There were no invincible Nen abilities—only imaginative users.
With that thought, Cyr clasped his hands behind his head and lay back on the cool desert sand, gazing up at the star-filled sky while continuing to refine his Nen.
His Six Eyes revealed the vibrant ecosystem of the desert. Animals scurried beneath the sands, and even the plants seemed alive.
As far as his vision extended, so did his awareness.
If the Eagles, known for their remarkable eyesight, could spot animals far away then Cyr's perception through the Six Eyes far surpassed that.
Cyr's Six Eyes granted him an expansive, 360-degree field of vision, capturing everything within an impressive radius centered on him.
This vast influx of information constantly poured into his mind, overwhelming him. It was so intense that simply keeping his Six Eyes open often led to nosebleeds.
To combat this, he resorted to a daily diet rich in iron, fearing he might suffer from anemia due to the frequent blood loss.
At the moment, he pinched his nose shut as he focused on a particularly conspicuous life force in the distance. Several less prominent energy signatures surrounded it, all steadily approaching their campsite.
Biscuit was herding a group of common desert creatures toward the caravan. These included:
A two-meter-tall fox-like beast with enormous ears.
A three-meter-long, sand-colored rattlesnake that emitted a constant hissing sound as it moved.
A six-eyed feline predator, nearly three meters in length, with sleek, sand-colored fur.
These beasts, as though terrified, bolted frantically along the path Biscuit had carefully orchestrated for them.
"Let's see what you're capable of," she muttered with a sinister grin.
Meanwhile, Cyr remained reclined on the ground until a familiar, overly dramatic shriek shattered the night's calm.
"Beasts are attacking! Run for your lives!"
The high-pitched, exaggerated voice was unmistakable.
Cyr sat up lazily, his gaze locking onto the golden-haired girl, who was feigning shock and terror. She continued her theatrical performance, her cries escalating as people began to emerge from their tents.
The beasts' rapid movements stirred up a sandstorm, reducing visibility and making it nearly impossible to keep one's eyes open without discomfort.
"Prepare for battle!"
"Take out the sand rattlesnake's head!"
"Focus on the sand fox's eyes and nose—those are its weak points!"
"The striped sand cat's weakness is its belly..."
Amid the chaos, the caravan leader's voice boomed, ensuring his instructions reached everyone.
The clanging of swords against the beasts' armored scales and the sharp crack of gunfire filled the air, adding to the pandemonium.
Cyr nonchalantly moved the two unlucky individuals he had been experimenting on earlier to a safer spot, away from the mayhem, to prevent any accidental injuries or fatalities.
"My goodness, how terrifying!" Biscuit shrieked dramatically as she noticed Cyr observing the scene with a relaxed, almost amused demeanor.
Feigning panic, she made a beeline for him, her movements theatrical as she called out, "Help me! Save me!"
The beasts, seemingly attuned to her presence, charged after her, their pace quickening as she neared the white-haired boy.
It didn't take much for Cyr to realize her ploy.
As she drew closer, her voice grew louder, adopting the tone of a damsel in distress awaiting her savior.
But just as she reached within five meters of him, Cyr remained seated, his lips curling into a calm, knowing smile.
Something felt off.
Her instincts screamed at her. Without hesitation, she leaped backward, retreating swiftly.
A heartbeat later, a deep chasm appeared precisely where she had been about to step.
Had she not pulled back, she would've been caught in its deadly grasp.
The beasts chasing her weren't as fortunate. Within moments, they were sliced apart by invisible slashes, their massive forms reduced to lifeless chunks.
The colossal snake's severed head rolled to a stop just three meters away from Cyr, its lifeless eyes staring blankly ahead.
No matter how fierce the attack, nothing could breach the invisible boundary surrounding the boy.
