Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Ruthless X Decision
"Huh? Who are you? You're not Noah's friend, are you?" Cain looked at the young man in front of him, puzzled.
"Don't worry, I haven't done anything to him. I just made sure he couldn't get up for a while. That's all. Next time…" Before he could finish speaking, Cain's head flew high into the air, tracing an arc in mid-air and landing in front of Noah.
Cain's head, soaked in blood, stared at Noah with lifeless eyes.
…
"Stop!"
A loud shout, and Noah suddenly sat up from the bed, sweat covering his forehead.
He clutched the blanket tightly, breathing heavily. After a while, he slowly calmed down and released the bunched-up blanket.
"Phew, another dream."
He reached for the towel on the bedside table, wiping the sweat from his forehead. Noah slowly got up from the bed and stood by the window.
It had been four days since he returned from Heaven's Arena to Kukuroo Mountain. During these days, Noah had dreams almost every night about what had happened that night.
Taking advantage of Cain entering a state of Zetsu, Illumi had struck instantly.
The former never expected that a child of only a few years old would become the Grim Reaper coming to take his life.
And as Noah crawled out of the bushes, all he saw was Cain's head flying into the air, lifeless eyes staring at him.
Standing by the window, recalling what had happened that day, Noah gained a deeper understanding of the Zoldyck Family and Illumi.
Even though Noah had only briefly crossed paths with Cain, after that short twenty-minute battle, he could tell that Cain was originally a straightforward and kind person.
Otherwise, Noah would have long become a corpse. So, from the bottom of his heart, Noah didn't want Cain to be killed.
But his identity was just that of an apprentice butler, and he couldn't decide anything.
The people of the Zoldyck Family, while not bloodthirsty murderers, were by no means kind-hearted individuals.
Noah had a clear understanding of this after Illumi beheaded Cain.
Cold-blooded and ruthless, that was the nature of the Zoldyck Family members. When it came to people unrelated to them, they could kill without hesitation.
Noah knew he had no right to judge their actions.
The Zoldycks were known as an assassination family, and they had their own code of conduct and way of life.
However, Noah would never approve of this code of conduct and way of life.
He and the Zoldyck Family members were simply not on the same page.
"I must find an opportunity to leave this place." Since returning from Heaven's Arena that day, the idea of leaving the Zoldyck Family had been constantly surfacing in Noah's mind.
Noah was well aware that after Cain's death, Illumi must have observed all his actions.
No one could predict how things would develop next. All Noah could do was continue to strengthen his own strength. Besides that, there was no other way.
"It's time to develop my own abilities. With abilities, my strength will take another step forward." Recalling Cain's ability, the powerful weapon of the Dominator, Noah decided on his next steps.
Nen, the ability to freely manipulate and utilize one's aura, led to different manifestations, such as lethal techniques.
In fact, Noah had long been able to control and use his own aura. Now, all that was left was to develop his own lethal technique.
To develop a lethal technique, one must have a clear understanding of their Nen ability system. Only by understanding the system of their Nen ability could they more easily develop their own lethal technique.
Noah placed a glass of water in the center of the table, and on the surface of the water in the glass, a green leaf floated.
"Water Divination." He said aloud, extending his hands and placing them on both sides of the glass. With a thought, his aura flowed out from the palms of his hands, enveloping the entire glass.
The Nen ability system, also known as the Hatsu system, was divided into six major categories: Enhancement, as Cain mentioned, and the remaining categories are Transmutation, Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration, and Specialization.
The Enhancement category is the most suitable Nen ability system for combat. It can directly enhance the physical abilities of the Nen user or the weapons they use, allowing for extreme levels of attack, defense, and healing. Cain's use of the Dominator's weapon demonstrates the pinnacle of enhancing abilities.
The Transmutation category can change the shape and properties of aura. In the original work, characters like Killua and Hisoka are considered Transmutation-type Nen users.
The Emission category allows Nen to maintain its original power even after leaving the user's body. Emission-type Nen users excel at utilizing Nen beasts, with their primary attack method being Nen projectiles.
The Manipulation category can infuse Nen into an object and control it.
The Conjuration category can create objects of one's desire using aura and theoretically manifest anything.
The Specialization category is the most mysterious of all Nen systems, with abilities that are inherently unpredictable. Each Specialization-type Nen user possesses unique abilities.
To develop one's abilities, it is essential to determine which category they belong to, and the Water Divination is the best method for this.
If it's Enhancement, the water level in the cup increases. Transmutation changes the taste of the water. Emission alters the color of the water. Manipulation makes the floating leaves move. Conjuration results in crystallization within the water. Anything different from these five phenomena belongs to the Specialization category.
As Noah channeled his aura into the palm of his hand, the cup began to change gradually.
The once still floating leaf suddenly moved.
Just as Noah thought he belonged to the Manipulation category, a tiny black dot appeared on the leaf. Then, this dot slowly expanded, extending in all directions until the veins on the leaf turned completely black, standing out against the rest.
Seeing the leaf covered in intricate black patterns, Noah ceased the flow of his aura.
"Specialization."
Without a doubt, Noah's Nen ability fell under the most mysterious category, Specialization.
"Well, it's certainly the kind of treatment a transmigrant should have. Specialization… It makes me feel quite unique," Noah commented casually as he cleaned up the cup.
Honestly, Noah would have preferred to belong to the Enhancement category. Specialization sounded impressive, but it wasn't the most combat-oriented Nen ability system.
According to the original work, most Specialization abilities served as support rather than directly enhancing combat capabilities.
Abilities like Kurapika's Chain Jail and Knov's Hide and Seek couldn't directly boost one's fighting strength. (T/N: Kurapika is a specialist second, and a conjurer first. He will turn into a specialist when his eyes turn red.)
For Noah, who wanted to find an opportunity to leave the Zoldyck Family, the Enhancement system, with its practical approach, was undoubtedly the most suitable choice.
