Chapter 14 - I
Xie Qi arrived at the hospital on Fan Qingyue’s small electric scooter. Fan Qingyue parked the vehicle and asked, “Does your waist still hurt?”
In junior high school, Xie Qi used to exercise a lot, but since entering high school, time for workouts became scarce. High school physical education classes were often taken over by teachers from other subjects.
Xie Qi once had highly developed motor skills, excelling in various sports. However, since his parents’ divorce, his time was dedicated to housework, leaving little room for his athletic talents to shine. Jiang Sining’s clumsiness with chores, even breaking dishes while washing, meant Xie Qi had to take on these responsibilities.
After Jiang Sining remarried, Teacher Hou shouldered the household tasks, allowing Xie Qi to relax a bit.
Fan Qingyue supported Xie Qi as they walked to the hospital gate. While walking, he remarked, “I’ll accompany you and visit your mother and Teacher Hou along the way.”
Xie Qi responded with an “Ah”
Then Fan Qingyue asked, “Shall we see your your husband who’s in a vegetative state?”
“It’s fine to see my mother, but forget about my husband,” Xie Qi said, reaching for eye drops in his pocket. However, he remembered they were used up, causing a moment of annoyance as he put them back.
“Why? Why can’t I see him?” Fan Qingyue inquired.
Xie Qi closed his eyes from time to time to relieve the pain. When Fan Qingyue asked, he said, “It’s not good; after all, he has been lying down for a while.”
“Okay, forget it.” Fan Qingyue heard what he said, and when he realized it, he didn’t really respect the other party very much.
He thought about it and felt that Xie Qi seemed to have a good impression of the vegetative person.
But thinking about it, who wouldn’t have a good impression of a sponsor who can give him 200,000 a month?
.
With Fan Qingyue around, Xie Qi did not go to Qin Yizhi’s ward immediately but went to Jiang Sining’s ward.
Jiang Sining usually had dinner at this time, so Li Siwen’s mother was also there. When she saw Xie Qi and Fan Qingyue coming, she laughed and said to Jiang Sining, “How filial your son is. He is already in his senior year of high school and is so nervous about studying every day. But still take some time to see you.”
Jiang Sining smiled but still looked sad.
Xie Qi knew what she was thinking as soon as he saw her expression.
He walked over and asked her, “How are you today? Do you feel okay? Did the nurse do a good job?”
Jiang Sining said a little absently, “It’s fine; everything is fine. There’s nothing wrong with it. I just don’t know what this leg is about. It’s really… your teacher Hou, is still in the ICU. I don’t know when he will wake up. What if we both become disabled when he wakes up?” She didn’t say it, but she became anxious when she said to Xie Qi.
Xie Qi never liked to expose his thoughts on his face, so he only felt heartburn for a while, then lowered his sore eyes and said, “You should consider this issue, but not now. Right now, just focus on raising your body and legs.”
“How can I not think about it?” Jiang Sining touched her face, still covered with gauze. “The face is also disfigured, and the eyes are not good. What if the legs are not well maintained and become lame?” In fact, Jiang Sining had already considered herself optimistic; there was no hysterical pain. She was just worried and sad.
Xie Qi comforted her, saying, “It’s okay, you still have me; I can take care of you.” Jiang Sining did not speak, indicating that this meager comfort was not enough for her.
Her pupils were now covered with a layer of light white haze, which hindered her vision. Xie Qi couldn’t do anything about this. After all, they couldn’t acquire corneas just by thinking about it; it depended on opportunities.
Li Siwen’s mother suddenly said, “Xie Qi, what’s wrong with your waist? Why do you keep rubbing it? You don’t have a herniated disc at such a young age, right?”
“It’s nothing,” Xie Qi said lightly. “It’s twisted. It’s just a waist; it will be fine soon.”
Only then did Jiang Sining notice his hand seemed to be holding his waist and asked with concern, “How did you twist your waist? Have you applied medicine?”
“It’s okay; I’ve already applied medicine. Don’t worry,” Xie Qi replied. Glancing at the time, he realized it was getting late, and he had to leave. He bid farewell to Jiang Sining and turned to leave.
Jiang Sining stopped him and asked, “Don’t you have a holiday tomorrow? Stay with me in the hospital and don’t go home tonight?”
Xie Qi hesitated and said, “Didn’t I find a part-time job as a caretaker? I may have to accompany them in the evening. I will have time to be with you tomorrow.”
Jiang Sining said with some disappointment, “Okay, then you can go.”
Xie Qi comforted her, saying, “I will come over when I have time.”
Unhappy, Jiang Sining replied, “Okay.”
.
After Xie Qi left Jiang Sining’s ward, his heartburn eased. He realized that, even if he initially chose Qin Yizhi for medical expenses, he now truly needed to plan for the future.
If Jiang Sining wanted to recover his eyes in the future, it would cost money. And to prevent her legs from becoming lame, he must have professional rehabilitation teachers to guide her.
Thinking about Teacher Hou, Xie Qi frowned tightly, and his eyes began to turn red due to the pain. Fan Qingyue sighed in his ear, “Your family has such a heavy burden.”
Xie Qi opened his eyes and said to him, “You go home; I can handle it now.”
Fan Qingyue asked firmly, “Are you… really fine?”
Xie Qi responded, “Okay, you can go back.”
Fan Qingyue scratched his neck and said, “Well, I’m leaving then. Be careful and don’t hurt your waist again.”
Xie Qi: “Yes.”
After Fan Qingyue left, he walked to the ICU ward discreetly.
