HunterxHunter: I Became Stronger After Death

Chapter 87: Kurapika's Desire

Powerful, cold, unknown...

These were Kurapika's immediate impressions of Kalluto.

The pile of flesh and blood splattered across the alley floor only further emphasized Kalluto's brutality.

There was no doubt—this child was a monster.

Kurapika's understanding of reality was shaken.

Had he not witnessed it with his own eyes, he would never have believed that a child, who appeared no older than six or seven, could effortlessly slice a grown man into dozens of pieces with a mere flick of his wrist.

Just as Kurapika was barely beginning to process this terrifying reality, he saw that very monster running away in a panic.

What happened?

Who could have wounded such a monster, forcing him to flee in terror?

Kurapika froze in place, a cold shiver creeping up his spine.

Kalluto emerged from the deeper parts of the alley and immediately noticed Kurapika standing there.

But Kalluto completely ignored him, sprinting past the puddles of filth and pools of blood as fast as he could, racing towards the bright light at the alley's exit.

I won't believe that guy's words so easily.

Saying my ability is "precious"?

Ridiculous. I never even had the chance to properly use it in battle!

And that look in his eyes… I'll never forget it!!!

Gritting his teeth, Kalluto paid no attention to his injuries—he only wanted to get as far away from Moro as possible.

On the side, Kurapika remained frozen, staring at Kalluto's retreating figure.

The events of the past ten minutes felt like a giant, icy hand, violently shattering his previous worldview.

For a brief moment, Kurapika felt as though he were trapped in a surreal dream.

Moments later…

The sound of footsteps echoed through the alley again.

Moro stepped out from the shadows.

"This is..."

His eyes first fell upon the two mutilated corpses on the ground and the scattered chunks of flesh. Then, he noticed the blond-haired boy leaning against the wall.

His gaze briefly swept over Kurapika's clothing, which bore the unmistakable style of the Kurta Clan, as well as the wooden twin swords tied together with a string.

Kurapika.

Recognizing him instantly, Moro felt a slight sense of surprise.

So he must've come here drawn by news of the Scarlet Eyes...

Moro's eyes flicked toward the chunks of flesh on the ground. Even through the pools of blood, he could make out a few dampened pieces of paper. It was clear that Kalluto had done this before coming after him.

And judging by the way the blood had spread, it happened only minutes ago.

"Looks like I won't be returning this fan."

Moro glanced toward the alleyway's exit.

He could easily chase Kalluto down using his Star Tracker, but considering Kalluto's current mental state, it wouldn't be worth it.

"About Level 15... As expected of the Zoldycks. They really are a factory for raising monstrous geniuses."

Moro thought to himself.

Why Did Moro Spare Kalluto?

There were many reasons, but the most important one was simple:

He would likely need Kalluto's tracking ability in the future.

Hopefully, today's "kindness" would make Kalluto remember him in a positive light.

But now, Moro had another concern—

Who had hired the Zoldycks to assassinate him?

The answer was obvious.

It had to be Noland, the leader of the Menu Organization.

Still, he never expected that Kalluto would be the assassin sent after him.

If it had been Illumi, I'd probably be the one running away right now.

That thought reinforced his decision—he needed to act first before the situation escalated any further.

Of course, the Ten Dons would retaliate once he killed Noland.

But at this point…

He didn't care.

He had already crossed the line of no return.

Hesitation? Second thoughts?

Not an option.

If things got too complicated, he would simply leave behind a message at the crime scene:

"We reject nothing. Therefore, do not take even a single coin from our hands."

As Moro was lost in thought, Kurapika was silently watching him.

His emotions were a storm of confusion and awe.

Then…

Kurapika's eyes locked onto the fan in Moro's hand.

The same fan Kalluto had abandoned in battle.

A realization struck him—

The monster that had slaughtered those men…

Had fled in terror from this man.

A deep desire welled up inside Kurapika.

His mind was in turmoil, yet his body refused to look away from Moro.

Moro Notices Kurapika's Gaze

Feeling the intense stare, Moro finally shifted his full attention to Kurapika.

Desire.

Moro could see it in his eyes.

Yet something about Kurapika felt… off.

He was different from the calm, composed, and calculating Kurapika in the original story.

This Kurapika felt more lost.

Then it hit him—

The Kurta Clan Massacre had only happened two years ago.

Kurapika was still in the midst of his transformation.

He's still growing.

At the time of the Hunter Exam, Kurapika was already a calculating strategist, carefully suppressing his emotions.

No one would have guessed that behind his calm exterior lay a soul burning with vengeance.

Even fewer would have suspected the pain and suffering he had endured just to maintain that facade.

But now…

Before reaching that level of maturity, he was confronted with power beyond his understanding.

Moro finally spoke.

"Are you okay?"

He glanced at the bloodstains at the corner of Kurapika's lips.

Kurapika shuddered at the question.

This was his chance.

"You... how did you do it?"

Moro's expression did not change.

Then, he shook his head.

"I won't answer that question. I don't owe you an explanation."

Kurapika's lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

A deep sense of disappointment washed over him.

Slowly, he lowered his head, hiding his eyes—eyes that were now filled with fragility and uncertainty.
