HunterxHunter: I Became Stronger After Death

Chapter 74: Perspective

The existence of Nen can generally be classified into three forms:

The first type is the natural life force Nen continuously emitted from the body, akin to an endless furnace producing energy.

The second type is Nen infused into objects unconsciously by geniuses and masters of various fields.

This type of Nen is essentially the embodiment of craftsmanship, representing the pinnacle of skill and pure intent in a given field. As a result, this kind of Nen can persist for a very long time.

The third type is Post-Mortem Nen, formed when an individual dies but leaves behind an intense, unresolved emotional grudge.

This type of Nen lingers in the world like eerie phosphorescence. It is driven purely by negative emotions, making its strength highly unpredictable. For Nen users, this isn't a major concern; as long as they don't enter a Zetsu state (completely shutting off their Nen), they can typically resist the effects of Post-Mortem Nen. For normal people, however, encountering Post-Mortem Nen could range from losing their sanity to outright death.

This was Moro's understanding of the three major forms of Nen.

So, when he heard OG Virus was connected to Post-Mortem Nen, he was understandably shocked.

Or rather—he found it difficult to imagine a direct correlation between the two.

Since arriving in this world, he had seen many artifacts and handmade objects infused with residual Nen. However, he had only encountered Post-Mortem Nen once before, aboard a certain airship.

"It's related to Post-Mortem Nen… How so?"

Stepping over a field of corpses, Moro approached Sambika, then peered into the intact coffin.

Inside, he saw a stitched-up corpse, as though it had been crudely sewn together. Wisps of smoke-like black aura coiled around it, radiating an ominous presence.

Sambika furrowed her brows, gazing at the dark Nen with a troubled expression. In her usual soft voice, she explained:

"The virus… was created by this Post-Mortem Nen."

"Huh?"

Moro blinked in surprise, staring at the ominous energy inside the coffin.

"Sambika, are you sure?"

"Yes." Sambika nodded without hesitation.

Moro was dumbfounded.

Post-Mortem Nen… can do that?!

"So you're telling me… as long as this Post-Mortem Nen exists, it will continuously produce more of the virus?"

Moro turned his gaze from the coffin back to Sambika.

"Yes," she replied, sighing.

Moro couldn't help but think: That's insane.

But then he remembered the rare occurrences of Post-Mortem Nen in the original Hunter x Hunter story.

Even an ability like "Million-Life Cat" existed, which used Post-Mortem Nen to resurrect its user on the spot.

So, an instance where Post-Mortem Nen generates a deadly virus…?

Not that strange, really.

Nen… is fundamentally illogical.

Even death itself couldn't fully contain its bizarre nature.

Sambika looked troubled. "With OG's research data and my Nen, I should be able to create an antiviral serum within a day. But… as long as the source of the virus remains, it will keep spreading unless the Post-Mortem Nen is purified."

Moro's eyes glinted. He remained silent for a moment.

Sambika, unaware of his reaction, continued examining the black Nen in the coffin, brows furrowed. "My master is an Exorcist, but her abilities can't remove Post-Mortem Nen…"

Suddenly, she seemed to remember something, and her expression softened slightly.

"I can ask my master if she knows an Exorcist who specializes in Post-Mortem Nen!"

"Sambika."

"Hm?"

She looked at Moro curiously.

"Dealing with the Post-Mortem Nen can wait. First, heal the villagers."

"Ah, you're right!" Sambika nodded quickly, immediately shifting her priorities.

She then reached out her hand, pressing her palm directly onto the corpse's chest—letting her fingers pass through the black Nen coiling above the body.

Moro flinched.

He was about to stop her, but then he noticed something odd—

The Post-Mortem Nen didn't react to her touch.

So… its core function really is just to create the virus…?

Even Post-Mortem Nen, despite being an irrational phenomenon, seemed to follow some form of logic.

While Moro was lost in thought, Sambika retracted her hand.

Her once smooth, pale fingers were now withered and aged, looking as wrinkled and dry as tree bark.

"…!"

Moro's eyes narrowed.

The virus… had corroded her hand in mere seconds.

Sambika, calmly observing her decayed palm, spoke softly:

"My ability allows me to transfer the virus into my body, forcing it to enter the 'outbreak phase' immediately."

"Stop. I don't need to know the specifics of your Nen ability."

Moro cut her off before she could reveal too much.

Sambika understood what he meant.

It was common knowledge that Nen users never revealed their abilities so easily.

Still, she met his gaze and said, "It's fine. My ability only works on viruses… I can use my body to analyze the virus's weaknesses and synthesize a cure."

Moro glanced at her withered hand. "That sounds… extremely risky."

"Yes. If I can't analyze the virus before the 'time limit' is up, I'll die."

She said it so casually—without the slightest trace of fear.

This wasn't recklessness; this was simply the mindset of a true Virus Hunter.

For the first time, Moro felt true respect for her.

"Do you have to take such a huge risk? You're highly knowledgeable—you could just use Nen as an assistive tool instead."

Sambika shook her head.

"I believe it's necessary. My master is an Exorcist, and their role inherently carries risk—whenever they remove a Nen curse, they must accept the backlash onto themselves… My ability was born under my master's influence. She always sighs about it."

Gazing at her decayed hand, she whispered:

"But I understand… Fighting viruses is a race against time. So I'm grateful I have this ability. And unlike an Exorcist's Nen, my risk lessens the more I understand a virus."

Moro was speechless.

There was nothing but admiration in his heart for her.

This woman was the embodiment of self-sacrifice.

Thanks to her Nen ability and the research data, Sambika quickly developed an antiviral serum.

Within half a day, the infected villagers were successfully cured.

Meanwhile, Hisoka, finding everything unbearably dull, wandered off on his own.

Back inside the underground lab, Moro turned toward the last two remaining researchers he had spared.

"As promised, I won't kill you until after you leave this place. You're free to go."

The two men exchanged nervous glances before bolting out of the lab.

Moro casually checked his phone, confirming some information with Argou.

Then, after a few minutes, he raised his fingers—forming two tiny, glowing green orbs.

Whoosh—whoosh!

The two Nen bullets shot through the dark corridors, twisting around corners before finally striking their fleeing targets.

Thud!

Two corpses fell in the courtyard above.

Moro calmly put away his phone.

Then, walking back to the coffin, he muttered to himself:

"…I wonder if Chronos can absorb Post-Mortem Nen?"

At the same time, Sambika called her master.
