Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Nina's Ability!
Kaizen was busy practicing the fundamentals of Nen, while he made his way to the 251st floor of Heavens Arena.
The two-day Battle Olympia had officially kicked off just a few days ago, and it had already drawn attention from far and wide—beyond this city and even neighboring countries. Fighters and spectators from all over had gathered for the event.
As Kaizen observed the scene, two things came to mind:
One, it reminded him of the World Martial Arts Tournament from Dragon Ball.
The second was the Chunin Exams from the Naruto world.
The format of the competition was compact and efficient:
21 Floor Masters would battle it out.
Two matches would be held each day.
Within five days, the top 11 competitors would be determined.
In the following three days, the top 6 would be selected.
After two more days, only three would remain.
On the final day, the champion would earn the right to challenge the former champion of the Battle Olympia.
Kaizen's gaze landed on one familiar figure: Doppo, one of the Floor Masters. The two exchanged brief nods of recognition. Doppo was the only Floor Master Kaizen knew, though Kaizen still wasn't sure how Doppo measured up to the rest of the competition.
Looking at the crystal ball hanging in front of him, Kaizen's mind drifted.
It's been stuck for so long, but the tournament seems to have sparked progress.
The crystal ball's energy was gradually building up again.
"At this rate, the crystal will reach full absorption by the end of the tournament."
And when that happens... My second Nen Beast will awaken.
Excitement flickered in Kaizen's eyes.
As the tournament raged on, Kaizen sat through every match, carefully observing the competitors.
He grew increasingly familiar with their abilities and skill levels.
"There's quite a gap between the fighters."
"Some of them are only as strong as Juliana, which isn't much."
"Doppo seems to sit somewhere in the middle."
But it was the stronger ones that intrigued him the most.
"I can't even gauge their power."
"They're far above my current level—like Silva or Grandpa Zeno."
Kaizen clenched his fist, a surge of determination rising within him.
"I still have a long way to go."
Once the day's matches were over, the arena began to clear. Conversations filled the hallways as spectators debated the fights, though many lacked the expertise to grasp the true intricacies.
Kaizen headed back to his room.
"Kaizen!"
The voice was cheerful and familiar—Nina. She ran toward him, her small feet padding across the floor. But before she could reach him, the large white bear beat her to it.
The bear, named Polar Bear, nuzzled Kaizen affectionately with its snout. Kaizen smiled, patting the bear on its head.
"Good boy, Polar Bear."
Nina pouted, but only briefly. "Kaizen! I've been working hard! I think I've got the hang of Ten, Zetsu, and Ren!"
Kaizen gave her an encouraging nod. "Good. Let's test your aura type."
He handed her a cup. "Fill this with water. Then go to the balcony and pick a leaf."
With a determined nod, Nina rushed off. It wasn't long before she returned, holding a glass of water with a small leaf floating on top.
"Now, place your hands around the glass and focus. Pour your aura into your hands and try to affect the water."
Nina followed his instructions carefully.
A moment later, the leaf on the surface of the water began to spin.
Kaizen raised a brow. "Manipulation, huh?"
Nina beamed at the acknowledgment. "Did I do well?"
Kaizen nodded. "Yeah. Manipulation types excel at projecting their aura outward. You have a lot of potential in manipulating things at a distance."
Polar Bear leaned forward, curiously sniffing the water. With a flick of his tongue, he scooped up the leaf, chewed it, and then spit it out in disgust into the trash.
Kaizen chuckled. "Alright, let's talk more about Nen categories. There are six in total:
Enhancement
Manipulation
Emission
Conjuration
Transmutation
Specialization
"Each type has its strengths. If you develop abilities aligned with your type, you'll progress faster and more effectively."
He glanced at Nina. "Since you're a Manipulator, you'll focus on controlling objects or projecting your aura over a distance."
He paused, thinking for a moment. "You know, there are plenty of examples you can study. For instance, Shalnark from the Phantom Troupe uses manipulation to control people. Or Kurapika's ally, Basho, who channels his aura into poetry to influence events. Even Illumi is a Manipulator—though his abilities lean more toward control through manipulation."
Kaizen leaned back, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "But just being a Manipulator isn't enough. You need combat skills, too."
Nina nodded, listening attentively.
"Before you fully develop your Nen ability, try immersing yourself in stories and games. They can inspire you. And..."—Kaizen smirked—"if you're stuck, you can always borrow ideas from other sources."
"Like what?" Nina tilted her head.
"Think of characters like the movies. These are all examples of manipulators who control puppets or threads."
His eyes narrowed as the possibilities unraveled in his mind.
"Nen is limitless. You can recreate anything. There's no reason you can't make it your own."
Fireworks suddenly burst in the sky, lighting up the city. Bars and public spaces buzzed with excitement as people gathered around screens to watch the broadcast.
"This tournament is huge," Kaizen murmured. "The biggest event Heavens Arena has held in two years."
Everyone was waiting to see if the reigning Floor Master would defend their title or if a new king would rise to take their place.
Kaizen found his seat in the spectator area and settled in.
But unlike the others, he wasn't here for the thrill of the match. He had a more personal reason.
"Ninety-nine percent..."
The crystal ball's energy had almost reached full capacity.
"Just one more battle, and I'll awaken my second Nen Beast."
Kaizen's heart raced with anticipation. The next fight would determine everything.
