Humans Shrunk 100 Times

Chapter 182: Telescope

After completing the defensive weapon, the high-level artillery, the next most important task was to create an escape route.

However, compared to the previous project, this one was relatively simple, with less workload and technical complexity than the elevator.

Over the next two days, Chen Mu transformed into a groundhog, sticking his butt out against the wall, continuously separating bricks from the wall, which were then carried away by Wei Dalei and others.

With dedicated effort for two days, a passage that could accommodate three people side by side appeared before them. As they broke through the outer wall, sunlight poured in, lifting everyone's spirits.

The passage was located on the opposite wall of the door, leading to a large green area outside. In theory, even if there was surveillance, it would be unlikely to spot this hidden escape route.

Nevertheless, for safety, Chen Mu designed the exit of the passage to be very discreet, and he also considered insect and waterproofing measures.

After completing these two projects, the overall security level of Qiming increased by another level.

July 7th.

It was He Ying and Lu Shanshan's turn for duty.

The current duty system was much more refined than before, with two people on duty together during both day and night. Although it meant some manpower was wasted, considering everyone's safety, it was worth it.

In principle, there had to be someone on duty at the watchtower 24/7, and thus, someone had to bring them meals.

Today's lunch was brought to them by Chen Mu.

Meal delivery was also strictly regulated, and Chen Mu wasn't originally on the list. Considering his workload, Dong Junwei hadn't even assigned him any duties, but Chen Mu volunteered to take one night shift each month.

The reason he was delivering meals today was that Chen Mu happened to be going up to the watchtower.

These days, regardless of how busy he was with other tasks, he always found some time to go up to the watchtower and adjust the telescope.

Although the principle was simple, creating a high-powered telescope that was truly practical was not as easy as it seemed. After so many days, the results were still unsatisfactory.

A single tube telescope about the length of an arm was placed on a stand about the height of a person.

Without a telescope, the significance of watching was not significant because at this height, even the ground in front of the entrance wasn't entirely visible.

When Chen Mu arrived, He Ying was doing a handstand on the bed with her hands, her feet suspended in the air, and she was very stable. She said that this form of exercise was particularly beneficial for physical endurance and breath control, and she suggested that Chen Mu give it a try.

After trying a few times, Chen Mu could also do a handstand, but his time was nowhere near as long as He Ying's. This girl, even without using special abilities, far surpassed Chen Mu in terms of balance, endurance, and skill.

In terms of physical skills, He Ying indeed had great talent.

Even in one-on-one combat, she could hold her own against Wei Dalei. In fact, with a melee weapon in hand, Wei Dalei might not even be able to beat her.

Due to the overwhelming workload every day, Chen Mu had tried handstands for a few days but couldn't persist. This was also something he truly admired about He Ying.

"What are we having for lunch today?"

He Ying saw Chen Mu walk into the room upside down and then flip back upright.

"Potato stir-fried with green peppers... You're really making the most of your training time," Chen Mu placed two plates of food on the nearby table.

"Duty is so boring, there's nothing else to do," He Ying replied.

"Isn't Lu Shanshan keeping a close eye on the outside?"

"We take turns," He Ying went to the window and said, "Shanshan, you go and eat first, I'll take over."

Lu Shanshan replied, "Okay, senior sister."

The so-called "watching" actually meant looking outside through the glass window. If they noticed any movement, they would use the telescope to take a closer look. Although the current telescope's performance wasn't excellent, it was better than nothing.

"You're improving the telescope again?" He Ying absentmindedly looked outside.

"Yes," Chen Mu disassembled the telescope and said, "Don't you want to see clearer?"

The single-tube telescope was made of plastic and could be extended and retracted. After Tang Jing explained all the principles and details, Chen Mu had to figure out some subtle dimensions on his own because they couldn't be determined.

He Ying smiled and said, "Of course I do. You know, several times I saw something running around near the teaching building. It looked like a cat or a dog, maybe it was a stray dog."

"That's why, with this telescope, duty becomes a bit more interesting, right?"

"Yeah, you're right."

"Have you ever seen people moving around?"

"It's so far away, even if there were people, I couldn't see clearly. I can only see the concrete path below, never seen anyone."

"Pay more attention to the direction of the canteen."

"I got it."

By this time, Lu Shanshan had finished eating and returned to replace He Ying.

Holding her plate, He Ying ate while watching Chen Mu busy himself.

"Do you think the people from Qingbei will be watching us from somewhere?"

Since the last time Chen Mu speculated that they were being monitored, He Ying couldn't shake off that feeling.

"Unless they have a telescope too or someone with visual abilities, they shouldn't be too far away. Moreover, if they're too far, by the time they discover us leaving, it will be too late to track us."

"Where could they be then?"

"There are many possibilities, for example... over there."

Chen Mu pointed to another storage room not far away.

That direction is opposite to the canteen and one of the few places around that can provide shelter from the wind and rain.

"Where, where?" He Ying squeezed over. Due to the angle, it seemed a bit challenging for her. She pressed her head against the glass, looked for a while, and asked, "Seems like there's a possibility. Should we go over there now and surprise them?"

"You're really daring and skilled."

"Just flattering, just flattering."

He Ying chuckled and continued, "But from what I've seen, Qingbei and Yizhong aren't as formidable as we imagined. In the few encounters we had with them, they were the ones at a disadvantage."

"That's because they didn't see us as the main opponents. Once they really target us, their sheer numbers alone could overwhelm us."

"Tsk, UU Reading www.uukanshu.com, you're always so timid..."

Just as He Ying was about to say something else, she heard Chen Mu click open the telescope in his hands and say, "I think it should be good now."

"Really? Let me try..." He Ying immediately became eager to give it a go.

"What did you just say?"

"Oh, nothing. I said you look handsome."

Chen Mu: "..."

After several days of adjustments, Chen Mu finally fine-tuned the telescope to its best possible state, allowing a clear view of the surroundings.

After taking a look himself, he handed the telescope to He Ying.

"Wow, it's so clear! It's incomparable to those from before."

He Ying held the telescope in her hand and kept moving it around while continuously praising its clarity.

One must admit that humans have a natural tendency for peeping, or to put it more nicely, a thirst for knowledge.
