Chapter 73 – Regulus Black.
[Chapter Size: 1800 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
Snape had deposited his small fortune in the bank as he left it with his account replenished, the staff asked if he wanted to see the vault, but he said there was no need since his contract ensured that if it was robbed, the bank would cover all the losses, wondering if anyone else had managed to get such a term.
After Snape had reviewed everything with the staff, collected the VIP card, and finally exited the bank, the employees couldn't help but feel relieved as they simultaneously grabbed tissues to wipe the sweat that had accumulated while Snape was in their presence.
"Finally, he's gone..." said the employee who was the manager who had attended to him.
"What was that... Mr. Morden?" the guard couldn't help but ask.
"I don't know... but I've never seen anything like it... I've never felt so much darkness coming from one person... what kind of... monster is that wizard... how can a human being be like that...?" Mile said cautiously, still shivering from Snape's presence.
"I felt like I could die at any moment with that guy so close, it was as if Death itself was here..." the guard murmured.
"Yes... we must not offend this being for any reason," the manager stated as if it were an unbreakable command.
"Yes, sir. We'll always keep this vault secure!" the guard exclaimed as the manager nodded, hoping never to see Snape again, though doubting that would happen.
Snape didn't do much more as he returned to school and proceeded to his new house. "You're back!" He heard a female voice as soon as he entered the precise room, it was Pandora greeting him, after all, she too could enter the room and seemed to have been there all day while he was out.
"Yes. I'm going to do some things and sleep, you can make yourself comfortable," Snape said, not caring much about the girl staying around.
"I'll play with Atlas then!" Pandora exclaimed cheerfully, heading to where Atlas was kept.
Snape continued preparing some potions with some old stoves he had found, still better than heaven.
"Next year I'll prepare a large number of stoves created by myself that will surpass any other magician's... but for that, I must study magical runes... Maybe it's time to start learning this in my elective class, but will they let me switch from fantastic beasts to this..." Snape couldn't help but debate with himself as he spent the rest of Sunday working on his projects.
The next day, he woke up in his bed and went to the animal enclosure, started his exercises, and went to the common hall to eat, beginning classes normally that day after the previous week, as he started herbology chatting with Lucinda and Clarisse, the two girls seemed quite interested if the rumors about Bellatrix and him were true, but he denied it while the two believed.
The atmosphere was still strange among the students from the houses most affected by the attacks as things gradually returned to normal, although some students never seemed the same these days.
He had his dueling class on Thursday against the fifth year and on Friday against the seventh, while the Slytherins were afraid to face him, but Bellatrix always seemed brave, and everyone watched her being defeated astonished, even with this already known outcome, it was very strange to see that crazy woman being knocked out by Snape as she cursed him in all manner of ways, but could do nothing more.
Snape felt a gaze on him from Professor Longbottom as if she were studying him and Snape already guessed why, but he remained calm, later that day after the dueling class, he went to talk to Slughorn, as the professor finished his day with the third year.
Snape waited outside calmly while students from Gryffindor and Slytherin, aged 13 or 14, left the classroom with some noticing him. But it was normal for him to be stared at by them, after all, he had been the most mentioned name in the Hogwarts Observer, however, coming to talk to him was a novelty and that was exactly what one of those kids did.
"You are Severus Snape..." the boy said, dressed in Slytherin clothes, and Snape looked at him with a calm tone, while the boy seemed to maintain his posture.
"And you?" Snape raised an eyebrow.
"Regulus Black," he introduced himself.
"Brother of Sirius? What can I do for you, child?" he asked.
"Yes... I am that guy's brother," he said with an unfriendly tone. It seemed the brothers did not get along well—one had been expelled from the family since last year and the other appeared to be the parents' favorite. Snape knew this because he had been researching the Marauders the whole time.
"Mr. Snape, I've heard rumors about you being involved with my cousins..." he began, trying to be brave, although Snape could sense the fear in his voice after the reputation he had built this year.
"I don't recall that, just some crazy person chasing after me," Snape scoffed.
"You shouldn't speak like that; I'm here to give you advice." He tried to sound firm. "It's better for you to stay away from Bellatrix and Andromeda; they will be used to form alliances between the great families and have their duty to the Black name... That's why I ask you to stay away," he advised.
Despite Snape's surprise that the boy simply did not act like any other Black who had approached him before, wanting to harm him or threaten him, he was just trying to warn him, but Snape seemed only to want to laugh it off.
"It's alright, I'm not getting involved with your cousins in that way," Snape said.
"I'm warning you because I admire your stance. You may be a half-blood, but your posture is quite admirable against all the other pure-bloods," Regulus Black had to admit that Snape was the best of the best at school, so even that Black had to understand that Snape was not normal. "My grandmother is a very dangerous woman, and you could be pursued by her if these rumors reach her ears," he said.
"If that's all you have to say, I'm leaving," Snape said at the end.
"Yes..." The boy seemed a bit hesitant as Snape just brushed him off and headed into Professor Slughorn's room.
"Why speak to him, Regulus? Everyone in Slytherin avoids him now, it's not cool seeing you talking with him... We pure-bloods must maintain our dignity and choose very carefully whom we should exchange any words with," some of Regulus's classmates approached and said obvious things that the young Black already knew, but he couldn't help but look at Snape with some admiration; this was the kind of behavior he wanted to emulate, objective and unstoppable.
While Snape was unaware of the admiration he was garnering from the young pure-blood, he entered the room while the professor, packing up his things, looked at him curiously. "Mr. Snape! What are you doing here?" Professor Slughorn asked curiously.
"I'm here because I wish to make a change in my school schedule, professor," Snape began as he handed a letter to the professor who opened it and raised an eyebrow before turning back to Snape.
"Are you sure about this? Changing the curriculum in the middle of the year is not a readily accepted task... I don't know if it can be possible," he said.
"There's something I can do; I've realized that the Fantastic Beasts class is not for me and I'm interested in the rune class because I want to start making artifacts," Snape said as the professor thought for a moment before looking at him.
"It can be arranged for a price. Although you might surprise me with the fact you're learning about artifacts, I can still get this done with some favors the headmaster owes me, but as you can see... I'm losing here, so I want you to come to my monthly student gathering nearly 3 weeks from now, since we had to delay it due to the Hogsmeade mess," he said, and Snape looked at him for a while.
"Alright, I'll attend your monthly gathering," Snape nodded at the end, seeing no harm in spending a few hours of the month in his room.
"That's perfect, Mr. Snape, you haven't been for the last six months, but I'm sure it will be a good experience! There are certainly many people who would like to meet you!" Slughorn said with a more cheerful tone as Snape nodded.
In the end, he returned to the precise room to train his new magical path, trying to control new spells. As the days passed one after another, Snape continued to make and sell more and more potions, raising more money until he ran out of stock to sell more hair growth potions.
He would have to return to the Forest of Death; however, this would not be possible due to the fact that he had another commitment on this day, as there was an auction for him in the black market.
Lightning continued to run through the tip of his wand as he tried to maintain control of it, but it was very difficult, and the lightning burst from his hand the next moment with a loss of control.
'This is going to take some time until I can finally master it... but I'm sure I'll create spells as powerful as the Unforgivable Curses without their restrictions...' Snape thought, although the Unforgivable Curses are more powerful in Snape's hands, at least he would have a powerful, legalized spell of his own making when he mastered the path of the storm.
He quickly finished there and grabbed his bag, heading to Diagon Alley. It was Sunday as he entered Diagon Alley again, found a spot after eluding a few more wizards behind him, and quickly changed clothes, putting on a tuxedo with a skull mask while putting a dark cloak over it, and headed to the bank.
His presence had already drawn the attention of everyone present. As always, he was quickly escorted, even without a VIP card, to speak with the manager, where he withdrew a large part of his money. As it was an illegal sale, he needed cash on hand to not be traceable. Leaving Gringotts, he went to the black market, which seemed much busier than usual.
The auction house was now operating. While Snape passed by the potion shop, picking up an exclusive card that the man who bought his potions had secured for him.
With that, he moved on, for today he intended to buy a house-elf.
