Though I was disgusted by the overwhelmingly sweet taste from whatever was in my cup, I nearly spat it out.

It was a mix of pure muscle and self control that stopped me from grimacing as I slowly forced it down my throat without my face showing anything other than mild boredom.

Placing the cup down, I looked in it and noted that it was orange, yep not drinking whatever abomination that is again.

I'm pretty sure I know where the kitchens are, maybe I can convince one of the house-elfs to give me just basic, not sweetened to all hell, water or something else instead of that horrible drink.

….

It had been a while and I had ended up making slight conversation with a kid next to me whose name was familiar but I couldn't remember much about, at least from the books as other fanfics probably don't have the best first hand knowledge.

Blaise Zabini, I feel, mostly talked to me because he was trying to gauge why in the actual fuck did a muggleborn got into Slytherin.

It was amusing to run him in circles with our conversations as he tried to lead me to talk about myself, only for him to admit anything at all that was relevant.

I think about half way through he realized I was actually the one playing him as he began to take a much more active role in leading me to conversation topics that I shouldn't know about only for me to talk my way around them until he would let enough slip that I could hold my own opinion on a matter without looking like I was forcing it.

It did take a bit more effort than I was comfortable admitting to, and it wasn't all that interesting but I now have a solid grasp of about three different national Quidditch teams, that I've never heard of before.

Of course I noted that everyone around me was paying decent attention to what I was doing but I didn't care much, just holding onto my face of boredom let everyone know I was seemingly running circles around a pureblood without effort.

All in all, what I'm doing is just establishing that I'm quick on my feet and not one to get in a verbal debate with, but I can tell that I'll still be singled out, no matter if I match the Slytherin house mold.

On an interesting side of things, everyone was calling me Grey, which I'm not sure how to feel about that. So, for one of my first side projects I'm going to break the convention that everyone has to refer to each other by their last names.

Plus they were trying to use my last name to insult me and I'm not the biggest fan of that so might as well do something about it, it'll add to a reputation if I can manage it at least.

But I have to say that I really don't like stuff like this, it's too much effort to do to this level, but that doesn't mean I can't do it or even that I'm not good at it.

And considering that everyone around me are kids, well, it wasn't all that difficult to be honest, just annoying to make sure nothing slipped up anywhere.

But I can tell I'm going to have to change the game a bit to make this more comfortable for me which is probably going to be a bit more effort than what I would appreciate.

After a little while later Dumbledore stood up as the desert vanished, which I considered a good thing, as I had finished a while ago and didn't want to risk biting into something that was ninety percent made of sugar.

It's not like I hate the stuff, or that my tolerance is that horribly low, but everything that does have sugar has just way to bloody much of it. Anyway, focusing back on Dumbledore, he looked at everyone before saying to us all.

"Just a few more words now that we all are fed and watered, I have a few start of term notices to give you. First years should note that the forest ground is forbidden to all students, and a few of our oldest should do well to remember that as well." He quite pointedly looked over towards the Gryffindor table, more specifically the two Weasley twins, to which they didn't even seem to notice.

"I've also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of the term and if you're interested to contact Madam Hooch."

"And finally, I must tell you that the third floor corridor, and the right hand side is out of bounds to anyone who does not wish to die a very painful death."

Well obvious foreshadowing is obvious, I wonder if I should do something about the whole, Quirrell is evil and is trying to resurrect a Dark Lord thing.

Probably but I don't really care all that much and it's not like he did anything too crazy, I just have to distract him while he's trying to kill Harry and then everything will be fine really.

Plot can continue and I can spend my free time not having to worry about all that stuff. My thoughts were interrupted as Dumbledore continued on.

"And now before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!" Oh dear lord no.

….

"My name's Farley, Gemma, I'm one of Slytherin's fifth year Prefects. You all are probably tired from the banquet and travel here but before you head to your in I'd like to tell you all something-"

From there she went on talking about how nice Slytherin was and how bad the others were in comparison.

She also noted that nowadays that the house isn't as focused on blood status, but as the only muggleborn in the room, and quite possibly in the entire house at the moment.

I doubted that the half-bloods of the house had it all that bad, or that what she was saying was only the truth only for them and not me.
