Episode 30
Episode 30
Lindsey clutched the blanket tightly.
How much better it would have been if he had asked that question in the past when she desperately needed it. One question would have been enough back then.
“And then?”
“What?”
“What would have changed?”
“What do you mean, what would have changed? Why didn’t you tell the truth…”
“If I had told the truth, would you have listened?”
Raysis fell silent.
Lindsey couldn’t help but laugh at his expression.
“Fine, I’ll tell you the truth. But after hearing it, never show up in front of me again.”
Lindsey grabbed Raysis’s arm as she spoke. In that moment, he noticed just how alarmingly thin her wrist was.
He thought of Rosalyn. Her wrists weren’t as thin as Lindsey’s.
Rosalyn had a lovely pink complexion and exuded the aura of someone who was loved.
In contrast, Lindsey seemed like someone hiding a sharp blade.
She was always wary of people.
As if she couldn’t trust anyone.
Faced with Lindsey’s intense gaze, Raysis nodded unconsciously.
“I did nothing wrong. I never entered that room that night.”
Lindsey slowly closed and then opened her eyes.
“When I woke up, everyone was accusing me of doing something terrible. They said I had stolen something.”
“…”
“No one listened to me. Even when I said I didn’t do it, everyone blamed me.”
“…”
“Even my trusted brother spoke to me for the first time that day.”
Lindsey roughly shook off Raysis’s hand.
“He called me dirty blood.”
Raysis stood frozen.
“Is your curiosity satisfied now?”
Lindsey spoke with a voice filled with finality.
“Don’t ever show up in front of me again. Get lost forever.”

Lindsey returned to the Marquis of Kesion’s estate.
She looked around the room assigned to her. It was the room she woke up in after being injured.
It featured a luxurious chandelier and meticulously crafted furniture. It used to be Rosalyn’s room.
But Crain had transferred ownership of the room to Lindsey.
‘Because it’s the room for the person with the strongest divine power in the Kesion household.’
Lindsey recalled why she was here. On the day she returned to the marquisate.
Crain had given her a grand welcome.
“Lindsey, my beautiful daughter! You’re outstanding. I heard you prevented Mikhail’s rampage and even overcame a curse. Truly impressive.”
Lindsey gave a faint smile at his words.
“I heard Mikhail is safe thanks to you.”
“…”
“Now I see you resemble me a lot. Excellent, very excellent!”
What was Rosalyn’s expression like when she heard that?
Her eyes were bloodshot as she glared at Lindsey as if she wanted to kill her. But it was no use. Crain’s view of Rosalyn had changed.
There was a coldness in his gaze.
A voice devoid of warmth.
The look of disappointment on his face was something Lindsey was very familiar with.
“Rosalyn, I heard from Mikhail. I am disappointed in you.”
“F-Father, I…”
“Enough, no excuses. You are to be confined for the time being.”
Lindsey couldn’t suppress a sneer. Crain never failed to meet her expectations.
As a meritocrat, he was perhaps the fairest person.
The servants of the Kesion household quickly picked up on the change in atmosphere.
They began to watch Lindsey closely. There were no longer any servants who harassed or ignored her.
In fact, they feared she might retaliate for the past.
‘Even that guy hasn’t shown up since then.’
Lindsey thought of Raysis.
After she revealed the truth, Raysis had changed.
He no longer spoke to her or hovered around her. It was a relief for Lindsey in many ways.
‘Things have gotten easier.’
Lindsey acknowledged that life in the Kesion household had become more comfortable.
‘But that doesn’t mean I plan to stay here.’
She had no intention of changing her plan to escape from the marquisate.
‘Crain is a cold-hearted man.’
If Lindsey ever became useless to him, he would discard her without mercy. She couldn’t be sure there was a transcendent with the ability to send her back to Korea.
But Lindsey knew nothing would be resolved if she didn’t leave this place.
‘I don’t know if I can return to Korea, but I can’t stay here.’
She recalled the broken image of Baek Ji-hyuk, who she thought was always perfect.
She couldn’t leave him alone. She had no idea how much time had passed in Korea or if Baek Ji-hyuk was even alive. But Lindsey had to go back.
By any means necessary, she had to return and find out what had happened after her death.
‘First, I need to finalize the breakup.’
Thinking this, Lindsey closed her eyes. To break the engagement, she had to return to the Radian household. The thought of facing Azhet and his family already made her head ache.

The next morning.
Lindsey got into the carriage with Raysis and Rosalyn. They were heading to the Radian estate to finalize the breakup procedures.
To break off an engagement in a noble family, the consent of two direct family members was required.
‘Likewise, Kenyan and Sylvia will also be there.’
She was already exhausted.
Lindsey turned her gaze to the window, trying to avoid the stares of Raysis and Rosalyn, who were looking at her intently.
Among them, Rosalyn’s gaze felt like it could burn her.
“Do you like the room, Lindsey?”
“Well, it’s certainly nice.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
Rosalyn smiled as kindly as she could. But Lindsey couldn’t miss the slight tremor in Rosalyn’s lips.
“By the way, Lady Sylvia sent me a letter. She said she really misses you.”
“…”
“She was heartbroken to learn that you were unhappy with the Radian family. Don’t you think you should reconsider the breakup? If it were me, I wouldn’t want to lose such a kind mother-in-law.”
“Then you take her.”
“What?”
Rosalyn’s lips quivered at Lindsey’s words.
“You take her, that mother-in-law. You were close with Azhet from the beginning. And it seems you have a good relationship with Lady Sylvia too.”
“How can you talk about people like objects…! Do you think that’s possible?”
“Rosalyn, stop pretending to be nice. Aren’t you tired of it?”
Rosalyn’s face turned red. She couldn’t contain her rising indignation.
“Raysis, say something to Lindsey! She’s been acting strange lately. Shouldn’t she be sent to a convent?”
“…”
“When have I ever treated you badly? You’ve changed, Lindsey.”
“You’ve never treated me badly?”
“Yes, when no one cared about you, I was the only one who did.”
“You really think I’m stupid, don’t you?”
“What do you mean? How could I think you’re stupid?”
“The balls you took me to, the dresses and jewels you lent me. Was that really for me?”
Lindsey stared straight into Rosalyn’s eyes.
“Can you honestly say it was for me?”
Rosalyn turned her head, looking to Raysis for rescue. Whenever she threw a fit, the family members usually took her side. It was almost a habitual reaction.
Raysis frowned at Rosalyn’s desperate look. He removed his glasses and rubbed his temples.
“Stop it, Rosalyn. She’s right.”
“Raysis, you too…”
“She’s right. You never liked Lindsey. After this is over, it’s best if we don’t see each other again.”
“Raysis!”
So that guy can make sense sometimes. Lindsey liked Raysis’s response.
If both of them could disappear from her life forever, she would have no more wishes.
After Raysis’s words, silence filled the carriage. The silence ended when they arrived at the Radian estate.
⋆★⋆
The carriage ride with Raysis and Rosalyn was preferable compared to this.
Thinking this, Lindsey sighed. Rosalyn and Raysis had gone to another reception room upon arriving at the Radian estate.
The process of breaking off an engagement wasn’t simple. To officially break off an engagement within the empire, a meeting with the opposing family was necessary.
‘You could call it a breakup mediation talk.’
During this meeting, members of the Kesion family could not attend.
Only the Radian family and Lindsey, the party involved, could attend. Hence, Rosalyn and Raysis were waiting in an adjacent room.
While waiting for Sylvia and Azhet, Lindsey felt the stares of the servants.
“How shameless to come back here.”
“I heard she’s here to break off the engagement?”
“She’s so vulgar. She must be lying again, trying to get Lord Azhet’s attention!”
The servants spoke loudly enough for her to hear. Lindsey looked at Sylvia and Azhet sitting across from her.
Azhet seemed uninterested in the situation. Kenyan was squinting his eyes in displeasure.
Those two didn’t matter much. The most important person was Sylvia, who was currently wailing in front of Lindsey.
“Lindsey, why are you doing this!”
Sylvia dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief, tears streaming down her face.
To anyone else, she might have looked like someone who couldn’t contain her sadness.
