How to Love a Night Fury how to train your dragon

Chapter 21: chapter 21

Around a month had passed since the battle and Hiccup was still unconscious.

Life on Berk changed for the better though. Vikings and Dragons were finally living in peace. Many Vikings were learning how to ride dragons and there were even areas throughout the village where dragons could stop for a meal.

I was able to walk around the village in dragon form without everyone freaking out once a week had passed, but I was only ever in human form when I was alone with Hiccup and was absolutely sure that no one would come to check on him.

At the beginning of the fifth week, I was watching over Hiccup in the living room of his hut. Stoick and Gobber had relocated his bed in front of the hearth to keep him warm. I stayed in dragon form just in case someone decided to check on Hiccup. It wasn't fun, but it was better than my secret being found out. Everyone on the island thought I was a male dragon named Toothless after all.

I whined and rested my head next to Hiccup's hand.

"I miss you.." I said, but I knew he wouldn't understand me or hear me.

I nudged his hand to see if he would wake up and I was shocked when his hand twitched and his nose scrunched up. I jumped around a bit and nudged him again and he groaned as his eyes slowly opened.

"Wha..?" Hiccup slowly said as he woke up fully.

I cooed in joy and nuzzled him purring like crazy. Hiccup laughed and nuzzled back.

"Hey Kala.. I'm happy to see you too.." He said, his voice full of sleep.

I jumped up onto the rafter that was above his bed, accidentally hitting him with my tail. I whined in apology and he chuckled.

"It's okay.. What–" He cut himself off as he noticed where we were. "Um..I'm in my hut.." His eyes widened and he looked up at me. " You're in my hut..!"

I purred and nodded as a way to answer him.

"Does Stoick know you're in here..?" He asked as he sat up in his bed.

I nodded again as I hopped down and sat beside his bed. I nuzzled him again and he smiled and nuzzled back.

"Yeah..I missed you too..sorry for worrying you.." He said as he hugged me tightly.

I purred louder and hugged him back with my head. I could tell he knew why I hadn't transformed yet.

After we separated, he gained a confused look and slowly removed his blanket then looked at his legs. He froze in place with wide eyes when he saw the prosthetic. I whined and nudged his arm.

"I.. Y-yeah..I-I'm okay.. Just shocked is all.. Help me up..?"

I nodded and helped him get off the bed. He struggled to stay upright and leaned against me for support.

"Okay...okay…"

He slowly started to limp towards the door once he was confident enough in not toppling over. I walked beside him slowly so that way he had me to lean on. He lost balance after a couple of steps and I quickly caught him and helped him stand again. He smiled and scratched my head.

"Thanks.." He said and I purred in response.

Slowly but surely, we made it to the front door and Hiccup opened it to go outside, but quickly closed it again when he saw Hookfang right outside with Snotlout on his back.

Hiccup took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves then he looked at me.

"Stay here." He ordered then opened the door again to go outside.

Me being me, I followed him as he walked out the door and looked around. We saw Hookfang and Snotlout teaching new riders how to handle their dragons.

"Come on, guys, get ready! Hold on tight! Here we go!" Snotlout said as Hookfang took off and the other dragons followed.

I purred and watched them fly off.

'Hookfang's doing well with Snotlout as his rider.'

Hiccup watched in disbelief and then looked around the village. There were dragons flying and walking everywhere. Some were even eating at the fish basins.

"I knew it. I'm dead." Hiccup said out of pure shock.

I shook my head with a small smile forming on my maw. Stoick came up to us and pat Hiccup on the back.

"No, but you gave it your best shot. So? What do you think?" He asked as he gestured to the village.

Hiccup glared at him a bit and was about to answer, but some of the Vikings that were walking past noticed him and came over.

"Hey, look! It's Hiccup!"

"Hiccup, how you doing, mate?"

"It's great to see you up and about."

Hiccup shrank back into my side nervously as the Vikings talked to him. I wrapped my wing around him comfortingly. Stoick smiled at him.

"Turns out all we needed was a little more of this." He said as he gestured to Hiccup's entire body.

"You just gestured to all of me." Hiccup deadpanned as he scooted closer to me. He did not seem pleased at all with seeing Stoick.

"Well, most of you." Gobber blurted out as he came up to us and gestured to Hiccup's prosthetic. "That bit's my handiwork. With a little 'Hiccup Flair' thrown in. You think it'll do?"

Hiccup lifted his leg and looked over the prosthetic Gobber made. It wasn't much. Just a bit of metal bent to act like the leg, a spring in the back to help with balance, and wood as the base with rope keeping it attached to Hiccup's stump.

"I might make a few tweaks." Hiccup replied and smiled a bit at Gobber.

Gobber smiled back and nodded. Astrid then pushed through the crowd and punched Hiccup on the arm. I growled at her, but she didn't pay any mind as I did. Hiccup hissed in pain from the impact and rubbed his arm to soothe the pain.

"That's for scaring me." She said with her arms crossed.

Hiccup glared at her a bit. "Is it always going to be this way with you?" He asked, but what happened next pissed me off.

Astrid grabbed hold of Hiccup's tunic and pulled him into a kiss.

"That was for staying alive." Astrid answered as they separated.

Hiccup glared at her harshly. "I thought I made it very clear the first time that I don't want to court you Astrid. I don't have any romantic feelings for you!"

"Pfft! Don't lie Hiccup. I know you do. Who wouldn't have feelings for a capable warrior like me?" Astrid said arrogantly, then she left with a smug look on her face.

I glared at her as she sauntered off and huffed out steam in disdain.

Gobber chuckled and rested a hand on Hiccup's shoulder.

"Welcome home." He said, then handed him a bundle of things.

Both of us got curious and Hiccup looked through the bundle. It was a new saddle and tailfin for us to fly with. The foot pedal on the saddle looked completely different than the first one. It looked to be custom made for Hiccup's prosthetic. The tailfin looked different as well. It was the same size, but instead of being brown it was now a bright red with a white Viking symbol on it.

Hiccup and I looked at each other with the same thought in mind.

'That symbol is so changing.'

"Well son, why not go flying with your friends?" Stoick asked.

Hiccup and I stiffened up and looked at him with glares.

"Alright look. Just because I was in a coma for who knows how long, does not mean I'm magically your son again. You disowned me, remember chief? So, whatever happened between the time of the battle with the queen and now changes nothing between us. You have to earn my trust again. Because everything you put me through for the past fifteen years cannot be forgotten easily. I'll still live in the same hut as you, but that is only because it has been my home since I was born. Not because I am your son." Hiccup sneered.

I pulled Hiccup closer to me with my wing, growling at Stoick. The chief got the message and backed away.

"I..understand Hiccup." He said as he looked down.

"Good. Now if you'll excuse me. I'm going to go fly around with my dragon." Hiccup stated and I helped him down the hill.

Once we were down, he put my new saddle and tailfin on me, then hopped onto my back and clicked his prosthetic into place. I purred happily at the feeling of having Hiccup safely on my back again and as soon as he changed the position of my tailfin I shot into the air.

This...is Berk. It snows nine months of the year, and hails the other three. Any food that grows here is tough and tasteless. The people that grow here are even more so. The only upsides are the pets. While other places have...ponies or parrots, the Vikings of this island have...us.

"Kala come on! Come swim in the lake!" Hiccup encouraged.

We decided to sneak away from the other teens after our flight to spend some alone time in the cove.

"I'm coming! Give me a second!" I laughed out as I removed my clothes.

I ran and jumped into the lake, soaking Hiccup as I fell in. He laughed as I came to the surface and pulled me into a kiss. I purred and kissed him back happily then rested my forehead against his.

"I missed you so much..I was afraid you would never wake up.."

Hiccup smiled and made me look into his eyes.

"Well, I'm right here milady.~ And I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I promise you that."

I smiled with a small blush forming on my cheeks and I pulled him into a passionate kiss with my arms wrapped around his neck. He kissed back with the same passion, pulling me closer by my waist.

This is what I missed the most. Being able to kiss my beloved and be in his arms.

We pulled apart to catch our breath after a couple of minutes and rested our foreheads together.

"I love you, Kala.." Hiccup said.

My eyes widened and I smiled wide with my eyes closed.

"I love you, too Hiccup.."
