How to Love a Night Fury how to train your dragon

Chapter 12: Chapter 12

The next morning a beat up ship pulled into port. Gobber and the other adults that stayed gathered at the docks to welcome the others home. From what Gobber could tell, the ship was struggling to stay together with all the supplies and people that were on it. He went up to the ship when he spotted Stoick.

"Well, I trust you found the nest at least?" He asked as his chief and best friend was gathering his belongings.

"Not even close." Stoick replied as he got off the ship agitatedly.

"Ah. Excellent." Gobber said sarcastically.

"I hope you had a little more success than me." The chief said with a bit of hope in his tone as he adjusted the basket on his shoulder.

"Well, if by success, you mean that your parenting troubles are over with, then...yes."

The two started to make their way off the docks as they talked. Some of the villagers that stayed behind came up to them excitedly.

"Congratulations, Stoick! Everyone is so relieved." Phlegma said.

"Out with the old and in with the new, right?" Starkard commented.

"No one will miss that old nuisance!" Hoark the Haggard said cheerfully.

"The village is throwing a party to celebrate!" Ack exclaimed just as cheerfully.

Stoick gave them all a worried look then looked at Gobber.

"He's gone?" He asked with worry and fear very prominent in his voice.

"Yeah...most afternoons and days off. But who can blame him? I mean the life of a celebrity's very rough. He can barely walk through the village without being swarmed by his fans. Not to mention he seems to be distracted by his own thoughts now-a-days. Always has a love-struck look on his face." Gobber explained. That last sentence caught Stoick's attention.

"Hiccup?" He asked, very shocked. As far as he knew, his son had a crush on the Hofferson girl, but never to the point of constant love-struck looks. Who gained his son's attention like this?

"Who would've thought, eh? He has this way with the beasts. Must be trying to show off for whoever he has eyes for." Gobber chuckled then walked off to work on helping everyone who returned get settled back in.

As that was going down, Hiccup and Kala were preoccupied with trying to get flying together perfected.

"Okay, Kala, we're gonna take this nice and slow." I said a bit nervous as we glided over the ocean. My grip on the saddle was tighter than it should be.

I looked over the cheat sheet that I drew out yesterday.

"Here we go. Here we go...position three, no, four. Alright, it's go time. It's go time." I fixed the tailfin into the correct position as I talked. I looked back at it and smiled. "Yes! It worked!"

While I was looking over the tailfin I accidentally made Kala crash into a sea stack.

"Sorry! Didn't mean to do that!"

Kala huffed as we flew away from the stack, but then I steered too hard and she ran into another one.

"That was my fault." I said apologetically, but I got a smack from her earplate as a response. "I know, I know. I'm on it. Position four, uh, three."

I changed the position of the tailfin again and Kala started to soar happily.

"Yeah! Go baby! Yes!" I leaned closer to the saddle to help her gain more speed. This was so exhilarating. No wonder she wanted me to experience this so badly.

"Oh, this is amazing! The wind in my--" Before I could even finish, the wind blew my cheat sheet off of the saddle. My eyes widened and I quickly sat up to try and catch it. "--CHEAT SHEET!! STOP!"

As I was trying to grab the parchment, Kala came to a full stop and looked at me startled. But when she stopped, my tether came undone and I fell off. Both of us started to fall screaming.

I tried to grab hold of the saddle to get both of us in the air again, but since we were both freaking out Kala couldn't stay close enough for me to get ahold of it. In my attempts I even got whacked in the face by her tail.

"NO!! Oh gods! Okay, Kala, you're gonna have to kinda angle yourself!" As I was trying to calm myself down Kala tried to do as I instructed. "Okay, no, no, no...come back towards me! Yeah there you go!"

After some effort I was able to get back on and secured. In the process, though, the sheet I was trying so desperately to grasp that led to this mess smacked me in the face. I grabbed it and quickly looked it over after I noticed we were heading for a big cluster of sea stacks.

Once I was sure I had it all down, I released the sheet and leaned close to the saddle preparing myself. I took a deep breath then changed the position of the tailfin.

Kala and I started to dodge all of the stacks at lighting speed, completely in sync for the first time since we started this journey. It was so exhilarating. It felt right. Like this is what I was meant for.

When we made it out of the sea stack cluster I sat up and raised my arms up high.

"YEEAHHH!!"

Kala was just as thrilled as I was. She even released a plasma blast in celebration. Downside of that though was that she did it right in front of us. I put my arms down, already knowing I was about to get covered in soot.

"Ah, come on Kala!"

She laughed as we flew through the smoke cloud.

After flying for a little while longer, Hiccup and I decided to stop for a bit to eat on one of the sea stacks. On our way to one of them I released a plasma blast onto a school of fish that was close to the water. Hiccup changed the position of my tailfin so I was able to grab all of them, then we found a decent stack and landed.

I made a pile with all the fish as Hiccup hopped off my back. He found some sticks and I lit them for him once he had them in a pile. He smiled at me then got himself a fish to cook over the flames.

Once we were settled, I turned human and sat next to him as I ate some of the fish.

"Thank you for that." Hiccup said. I looked at him and tilted my head.

"For what?"

"For that amazing experience." He looked over at me with a light blush and the cutest smile I had ever seen. "You opened up a completely new and exciting life for me. So thank you."

I blushed and smiled back. "You're welcome."

We kept eye contact for what felt like ages and very slowly started leaning closer to one another. As we got closer and closer our eyes slid closed and the next thing I knew our lips slotted together perfectly.

It was absolute bliss. It was very slow and sweet, but filled with complete and utter love. I didn't want it to end, but eventually we had to pull apart for air.

Hiccup and I made eye contact again as we tried to catch our breath.

"So I take it, you want to be with me?" He asked once our breathing was starting to regulate.

I smiled and got closer to rest my head on his shoulder.

"I would love to be with you Hiccup."

He smiled and wrapped his free arm around my waist.

"Well in that case, can I know everything about you? Only fair since you know everything about me." He smirked at me a bit and I stifled a laugh.

"What would you like to know?"

"Well, everything. I wanna know everything I can about you."

I stifled a laugh. "Did you just use my own words against me, mister?"

"Maybe I did. What're you gonna do about it?" He teased.

I giggled and rolled my eyes.

"Okay, okay. I traveled a lot as a hatchling. It was hard to stay in one place for long periods of time because of how other dragons treated me. So I was always on the move."

Hiccup gave me a sympathetic look and I smiled softly.

"It wasn't all that bad though. I got to see many beautiful islands and learned a lot about many other species. So if anything, it was better than staying on a single island my entire life. I got to explore and see the world as I learned how to survive in it." I explained.

"True, but still." Hiccup said. "The fact that you were forced off islands because of hateful dragons. You were a hatchling for Thor's sake."

"I know, but there wasn't much I could do about it at the time. I–" I began to say, but cut myself off when a small flock of Terrible Terrors landed and tried to steal my fish.

I growled at them and they backed away from the pile, one of them still dragging a fish with it.

Hiccup chuckled and pulled me into his lap.

"Relax Kala. There's plenty of fish there for you to share with some Terrors."

I whined as I tried to get out of his hold. "But it's my fish! I caught it fair and square!"

He shook his head trying not to laugh. After a little while longer of squirming I gave up with a huff.

"If I let you go, will you behave yourself?" He asked with a small chuckle.

I sighed and nodded. He smiled and let me go. Finally free, I got up and transformed into my dragon form to protect my fish. Hiccup sighed and smiled at me.

I kept a close eye on the Terrors as Hiccup ate his fish. When one of them started fighting me about a fish, I sent a small plasma blast at it and when it was about to send fire at me, the plasma blast went into its mouth and made its fire go off inside. I laughed at it as it walked off dazed.

Hiccup saw and shook his head smiling, then he looked at the Terror as it came up to him.

"Not so fireproof on the inside, are you?" He asked as the Terror started to get out of its dazed state. Hiccup grabbed a fish that was close to him and gave it to the Terror. "There you go."

The Terror took it happily and devoured it. When it finished it got into Hiccup's lap and fell asleep. My eyes widened and I whined. Hiccup laughed a bit.

"Oh calm down. It's not gonna steal me from you Kala."

I huffed and focused on eating my pile of fish.

Hiccup pet the Terror as it slept.

"Everything we know about you guys is wrong. Guess they're all too stubborn to open their eyes and see you all for who you really are. I'm glad I was able to."

I purred and transformed into a human again then went over to him and kissed his cheek.

"I'm glad you were able to, too."
