Chapter 13: Black Snake (2)
When Osian didn’t answer, the masked man shook his head.
“Sure. It doesn’t matter who you are, we need to get rid of the witnesses. Get rid of him.”
At those words, the hulk moved.
There was the sound of something pulling on a ball, and then the big man shot out like a cannonball and lunged at Osian.
It grabbed him by both shoulders and threw him against the wall.
Flying, Osian spun in midair and landed on the ground before crashing into the wall. Immediately afterward, the big man lunged at him and slammed into his shoulder.
Osian crossed his arms in defense, and the big man landed a body blow on top of him.
-Thud! Kwao!
Overwhelming mass and immense strength.
The giant pushed Osian back like a bulldozer, smashing through two walls.
Brick fragments rained down and dust rose.
That power that would have made an ordinary person blood clot long ago but the big one suddenly realized that his body wasn’t moving forward.
Instead, he felt an enormous pressure on his shoulder that pushed him back.
“I asked you who you were, and you just attacked me out of the blue. That’s not polite.”
Osian said as he entered into a struggle with the big man.
He lunged at him, throwing him around and slamming him with his shoulder.
He was surprised at how fast he was, given his seemingly dull exterior, and was slow to react.
Even considering that, Osian’s body was unscathed.
Despite having smashed through two solid walls with his bare hands, Osian doesn’t feel any sore spots.
‘It’s my body, but it’s damn strong.’
Even as he thought this, Osian continued to analyze the enemy before him.
The behemoth showed no emotion as he withstood his strength, and even pushed him away.
At least this wasn’t the amateur he’d faced downstairs just moments ago.
The big man pushed down on both legs. The floorboards cracked and split but Osian still didn’t flinch.
Instead, the big guy was slowly pushed back.
When he realized this wasn’t going to work, he leaned back slightly.
Osian resisted the push, and for a split second, he lost his balance.
His skill was too immature for such a powerful body and the gap was exploited by the big man.
A fist the size of an adult male’s head shot like a cannonball toward Osian’s face.
It was a piercing straight that should have popped his head open like a watermelon but Osian regained his balance with incredible speed, dodging the punch with a slight tilt of his head to the side.
He spun his body backward. With both hands, he grabbed the big man’s outstretched fist over his shoulder and slammed it into the ground.
-Quang!
The big man took his full weight on his back, but there was no groan from behind the mask.
Osian’s eyes shone with interest.
This thing was stronger than he’d thought.
“Let’s see how much longer you can hold out.”
Osian slammed his fist into the fallen giant’s face, he wanted to remove the smug mask first but Osian’s outstretched fist was caught by a hand the size of a pot lid.
“Hmm?”
As Osian looked at him in surprise, a change occurred in the big man.
Pure white steam flowed out from the gaps in his coat and such a reaction could not have come from an ordinary human body.
Osian’s eyes widened slightly at the pressure that threatened to crush his fist.
His strength had just increased even more than before and the deafening sound of spinning wheels, pumps pumping was coming from inside the giant’s body.
“You’re not human.”
Before Osian could finish his sentence, the creature’s upper half rose as if it had been thrown off.
Without letting go of Osian’s fist, it twisted around to face him once more from the front.
Inside the slightly torn forearms of his coat, he could see arms of steel, not human.
The hulking figure glowed a reddish-eyed glow from behind its mask.
*
The tall, lanky masked man sat in a chair in Jacob’s office and waited.
He’d come to see how far Jacob’s business had expanded, but the timing was bad.
Jacob had been killed by some fixer.
‘It’s a shame, but it was one of those hands I was going to discard anyway. The fixer was unlucky to face us on a day like today.’
He must have been pretty good to wipe out the Black Snake gang single-handedly.
The behemoth that Osian was fighting now was not something he could deal with.
An automaton, a self-driving doll, especially built for combat, extremely strong and powerful.
There was no way a single Fixer could take on an Automaton that could single-handedly take out several gangs.
Just as he was thinking that, he heard a series of thuds coming from beyond the broken wall.
‘At least that fixer has some ability, he’s holding up pretty well.’
But only for a moment.
Soon the noise from the other side of the wall subsided.
‘Finished.’
Now the automaton will appear before him, carrying his mangled corpse.
Just as he thought that, something flew from beyond the broken wall.
-Boom!
What he thought was a corpse was, to his surprise, was the automaton he had brought with him.
With one of its arms torn off, the automaton scrambled to its feet, unable to keep its balance.
The masked man’s gaze shifted from the automaton to the broken wall beyond.
There, Osian slowly emerged, clutching the automaton’s forearm.
Osian slung the detached forearm over his shoulder and stared at the masked man with a cold gaze.
The masked man felt goosebumps rise on his skin beneath his coat.
‘Tearing off a battle automaton’s forearm so easily?’
Besides, judging from the state of the automaton, it was obvious that it had used at least level 3 power and yet, Osian didn’t have a single wound.
“Is that all?”
Osian pointed his forearm at the masked man and the masked man slowly rose from his seat in response.
At first, he thought he was just another fixer, but now that he saw him again, he realized he was no ordinary man.
“If you have a hidden hand, I’d be happy to see it.”
And the ease in his tone.
Only a strong man could have such an attitude, and it made the masked man break out in a cold sweat.
In reality, Osian was genuinely curious.
‘As the world advances, so do robots.’
Automatons were robots to him.
He knew it was a very advanced world compared to the game world, but he didn’t expect it to have bipedal robots.
Moreover, when the automaton first moved, he didn’t feel any discomfort.
They were so well made that he couldn’t tell them apart.
‘I don’t know what the hell they are, but they must have some connection to the Black Snake gang to come here and attack me.’
At the very least, if he could capture them and interrogate them, maybe he could get some more information out of them.
That’s when the masked man spoke up.
“We stand down.”
As he spoke, the automaton slowly backed away and stood beside the masked man.
Osian glared at the masked man in disbelief.
“Do you think I’ll let you go if you come now and say you’re leaving?”
The masked man didn’t answer. Instead, he snapped his fingers.
At that moment, the automaton’s forearm in Osian’s grasp exploded with a loud bang.
A cloud of white steam rose and filled the room.
The masked man turned away from the explosion and climbed onto the automaton’s remaining intact arm.
The automaton leapt to the roof of the building, shattering the glass windows.
One human and one automaton disappeared into the city’s steam in a matter of seconds.
The steam in the room slowly subsided.
Osian clicked his tongue as he looked at the shattered window and the two missing beings.
He couldn’t believe the arm itself had the ability to explode.
‘I didn’t smell gunpowder, so I must have been caught off guard.’
He had detonated a compressed vapor capsule embedded inside his forearm.
The expanding water vapor itself acted as a kind of bomb and it was powerful.
The shards of the shattered steel forearm became projectiles in their own right, blasting the surrounding area with the pressure of the explosion.
It was reminiscent of a claymore, tearing through everything within a certain range but Osian’s body was unscathed and his hand still clutched his sword.
He had deflected all the shrapnel from the exploding forearm with his sword.
As if to prove it, the wall behind his back was clean of shrapnel.
The shredded scene around him seemed alien.
Osian reached for something to use as proof, but gave up when he saw the wide-open vault was empty.
Whatever the masked man was doing, he’d already taken all the evidence against them.
‘I don’t see the point in bothering with him, since my request was to take down the Black Snake gang anyway.’
It wasn’t a pleasant feeling to realize that something was behind this.
The city was so large that it wasn’t surprising that there were all sorts of organizations running things.
Osian sheathed his sword at his waist and stepped outside of the gang’s lair.
-Qiqiq! Qiqiq. Chirp.
White steam rose from the alleyways, accompanied by the whirring of machinery.
Osian’s vision contrasted the city alleyways of his past game with what he was seeing now.
It was an alien sight, no matter how many times he saw it.
He finished the request and started to turn back, but stopped in his tracks.
“…….”
Turning, Osian stared out over the steamy rooftops of the building.
*
‘What is it?’
The watcher, his eyes on the scope, doubted his own eyes when Osian turned this way.
‘He’s been looking this way? Have we been spotted? No, that can’t be.’
The distance between him and Osian is more than 200 meters.
Even this side of him was cloaked, and the white steam from the brass pipes around him made it difficult to distinguish things.
It seems impossible that a man could have spotted him on the roof of a building.
‘Maybe it’s just a coincidence.’
For a moment, the observer thought of fleeing, but then he suppressed his anxiety and tried to confirm Osian’s appearance through the scope again.
However he couldn’t help but panic.
‘What the hell. Where did he go?’
The figure of Osian, who was standing in the alleyway just a moment ago, was nowhere to be seen.
The observer felt a sense of unease.
His first thought was to quickly get away, but then he felt a cold touch on the back of his neck.
“Don’t move.”
“…….”
The watcher panicked.
The cold metal was unmistakably the sword Osian had been carrying at his waist.
‘What the hell, how long?’
It hadn’t been that long since he’d lost sight of him.
However, in that short time, he had covered more than two hundred meters and taken up position behind him.
He was even on the roof of a building.
“You were watching me just now. What’s your purpose?”
“…….”
The way he said it, he knew he was being watched.
For a moment, he looked back at himself through the scope, and it wasn’t an illusion.
Cold sweat trickled down the inside of his gas mask.
“You won’t answer me? Good.”
The moment Osian was about to apply force to his sword, the watcher shouted.
“Wait!”
