7. Oh Gosh, So Exhausting!
Ling Ning crouched in the corner, her face filled with shock. Just now, she—a full-grown man (?)—had been toyed with by a mere girl. This was nothing less than an utter disgrace, a humiliation beyond words! Did girls really enjoy groping other girls’ chests that much? Ling Ning simply couldn’t understand it.
“This one should fit.”
Chu Mengyao came out of the pile of clothes holding a maid outfit. It looked quite similar to theirs—a classic black-and-white maid uniform.
“Um… could you maybe leave for a moment?”
Being watched by another girl while changing, Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel embarrassed, even though she was technically a girl herself now.
“Are you seriously blushing right now? That’s just too adorable. Alright, I’ll leave. Once you’re dressed, come find me at the counter, and I’ll go over the job details with you.”
After Chu Mengyao left, Ling Ning let out a sigh of relief and took a good look at the maid outfit. Of course, it was a dress. A maid dress, at that!
Wearing women’s clothing… Back in her previous life, whenever she wrote novels, a group of weirdos among her readers would always ask her to wear dresses and post pictures in them. But as a man, how could she possibly do something so compromising, even if it were for the sake of sales… For sales… Ahem!
In any case, she’d never worn them, never! Believe it or not, she believed it herself.
The maid outfit also came with a pair of thigh-high socks, but Ling Ning had forgotten how to put them on—cough, I mean, she didn’t know how to put them on properly. It almost felt like she was revealing something about herself.
Just then, a pretty girl with dyed ash-brown hair suddenly walked in. She seemed a bit surprised to see Ling Ning, but then went about her business, changing her clothes. Judging by the maid outfit she was wearing, she also worked here.
“Girls nowadays dress so maturely,” Ling Ning thought, watching the beautiful girl change. She looked down at her own plain white panties, which had a little bear printed on them—how childish. Ling Ning couldn’t help but wonder if she should change her style, especially since even her daughter dressed more maturely than she did.
After watching the girl put on her clothes, Ling Ning finally remembered how to wear the thigh-high socks. It was something about starting with the thumbs, folding them down from the thigh to the toes, and then slowly pulling them up from the foot. Yeah, that seemed about right. Since staring at others was impolite, Ling Ning only caught a general idea, but it was enough.
Ling Ning took off her plain, almost rural-looking clothes, then skillfully put on the maid outfit. She recalled the beautiful girl’s method for wearing thigh-high socks and put them on. Thankfully, the shoes weren’t heels—otherwise, she might have wanted to die.
Seeing her reflection in the dressing mirror, Ling Ning couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d once again lowered her standards. But in pursuit of a better life for the future, all of this didn’t matter.
When she stepped outside, she suddenly realized something was off. Why was her skirt so short? It was so short that any wrong move could end up as a “fan service” moment.
Seeing Ling Ning glare at her, Chu Mengyao awkwardly laughed and said, “Well, this was the only one that fits your figure. Just be careful, and it’ll be fine.”
“Can’t we swap?”
“No, no, no, mine wouldn’t fit you. Even if you managed to put it on, your chest would feel too tight.” As she said this, an inexplicable sadness crept into Chu Mengyao’s voice.
After some casual chit-chat, Chu Mengyao began to give Ling Ning a detailed introduction to the café’s rules, working hours, duties, and so on. In short, the job was about finding ways to get customers to order more, chatting with them, playing games sometimes, and occasionally taking photos.
Ling Ning noticed that, including herself, there were only five maids working there. She couldn’t help but ask, “There are just the five of us—is that really enough to handle things?”
“Yes, the café is pretty small, and five people are enough most of the time.” At this point, Chu Mengyao seemed to recall something and added, “You know the old, historic all-girls school nearby? St. Freya Academy. Most of our customers are students from there.”
Hearing the name “St. Freya,” Ling Ning felt a strange sense of déjà vu. Images popped into her head of a white-haired pervert constantly yearning for her senpai’s… juice, and then something about garbage houses, resonance, and some guy named Dawei.
“Most of the girls from St. Freya come here as if it’s just a regular café. So most of the time, we’re just serving drinks. Only during holidays do we get customers from elsewhere. Overall, it’s pretty relaxed,” Chu Mengyao explained.
“Oh~”

“Oh man, I’m exhausted.”
It was Ling Ning’s first time experiencing just how tiring working a part-time job could be. In her previous life, she had never worked due to her comfortable living conditions. Luckily, she had the original “Ling Ning’s” muscle memory, which saved her from making a fool of herself.
Still, she hadn’t had a single chance to drink water since noon, let alone have lunch. She was just glad she’d shamelessly managed to snack on some food while playing games with customers; otherwise, she might’ve fainted.
While working, Ling Ning also took the opportunity to learn a bit about her fellow maids. For example, the twin-tailed beauty currently brewing tea was Zhou Xiaoxiao, a second-year student at St. Freya Academy’s high school division. Judging by her demeanor, her family seemed quite well-off. She was working here just as a personal interest.
Then there was the timid, soft-spoken girl named Xia You, who was responsible for the café’s cooking. She was usually shy and even stuttered when speaking, but her cooking was excellent.
And finally, there was the beautiful girl with ash-brown dyed hair and mature lingerie—Ye Xuan. Ling Ning noticed she often wore an aloof expression, and even when dealing with customers, her demeanor remained cold and distant. Yet many customers seemed to enjoy that type of atmosphere.
“Take a break. There aren’t many customers right now, so we can finally have lunch.” Chu Mengyao came over and spoke to Ling Ning.
“Lunch?” Ling Ning was a bit surprised, considering noon had passed ages ago. It was already afternoon. She’d assumed lunch was simply out of the question by now.
“Yeah, sometimes when it’s busy, things end up like this—like today. But it doesn’t happen often. Usually, we at least take turns for lunch breaks,” Chu Mengyao explained.
“Oh.” Ling Ning nodded, deep in thought.
