Honkai Star Rail Starting With Judgement of Shamash

Chapter 96: Chapter 96 The Tower and Experimentation

The troops kept moving forward. Although the reinforcements weren't as large as the first group, they brought the much-needed supplies.

Ammunition helped recharge the protective suits, and equipment damaged during the fight against the Honkai Impact was fixed. This eased their urgent needs and restored their full fighting strength. With more people, they could continue exploring.

As Orion marched, he felt like something was watching him, but he couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Since his earlier actions had attracted attention and there was no sense of danger, Orion didn't worry much.

Soon, they reached the town center, but what they saw made them stop.

"What is this?"

In the middle of the town was a square, perfect for large groups, with a much wider view than the town's narrow corridors. It was ideal for both guerrilla warfare and ambushes.

But what really caught the MOTH's attention was the pile of debris scattered everywhere. The ground was scorched, and broken mechanical parts were all over. The statue in the center of the square was so damaged that it was hard to tell what it once was.

Orion picked up a piece of mecha near his feet. It was marked with the faint letters "Херс. (Hels)."

"This is Russian power mecha!"

Destobia looked over and gasped when she saw the words on the fragments. The crowd grew restless as the other Fire Chasing Moth soldiers recognized the mecha prototypes scattered everywhere.

In the Fire Moth classes, we learned about the weapons and equipment different countries used to fight the Honkai. On the Mu Continent, advanced power mechas became common due to its higher level of technology.

Destobia explained this to Orion, which surprised him. He didn't expect that this girl not only knew Russian but could also identify a mecha prototype just from a piece of debris. Orion was impressed.

"Keep moving!"

The commander's order came, and the soldiers had no choice but to push aside their unease and keep going. From previous battles against the Honkai, they knew that the destruction would spread as time passed. The faster they stopped it, the fewer lives would be lost.

As they marched on, the flat terrain gave way to rising slopes. The incline grew steeper, forcing them to slow their pace. The town's industrial outskirts loomed ahead, and amidst the scattered ruins, a solitary structure dominated the skyline.

"That must be the industrial area," Orion muttered, his sharp eyes locking onto the tower. Its jagged silhouette cut through the gray horizon, an unsettling landmark amidst the stark emptiness.

"Beep, beep! Increased Honkai energy detected!" came the mechanical voice of their scanner.

But Orion didn't need a device to confirm what he already felt. The air had grown heavier, a palpable force pressing against his chest.

Breathing required more effort now, each breath taking more effort than before. The suffocating sensation clung to him, as though the atmosphere itself wanted to keep intruders out.

The tower ahead was unlike anything else in the vicinity, three interlocked columns that spiraled upward in a bold display of early Soviet-style ambition.

Its brutalist architecture was marred by decades of neglect, yet somehow it retained an eerie authority.

Shattered windows spewed faint streams of a mysterious purple glow that flickered unevenly, like a trap baiting them to venture closer.

Before Orion's deployment in the early days that he joined, Mobius performed rough experiments on Orion's body. Honkai energy was extracted from the body of a zombie and injected into Orion.

Using the "cell adaptation fluid" that Mobius prepared, his body began to slowly accept the Honkai energy despite the damage.

Normally, the human body can heal itself and build up defenses against illnesses, but when it comes to Honkai energy, failure means death, and the infection spreads so fast that people don't have time to build immunity.

But Orion was different. Whenever his body showed signs of turning into a zombie, he used his ability to recreate a new body and replace his decaying one.

Although this process cost a lot of energy and carried the risk of his old body becoming a zombie at any moment, both Orion and Mobius were bold enough to continue.

After working non-stop, something incredible began to happen.

When Orion rebuilt his body for the 107th time, Mobius injected a high concentration of Honkai solution into it, and he didn't show any discomfort. The experiment had worked.

As Orion's body kept getting destroyed and rebuilt, his cells gradually developed antibodies that could fight the Honkai energy, allowing them to artificially increase resistance to it.

Mobius was thrilled with the results. She smiled constantly, knowing her understanding of Honkai energy had deepened.

The lab was bathed in a sterile glow, its clinical brightness contrasting with the deep fatigue etched into Mobius's face.

Her green eyes shimmered with a strange mix of excitement and exhaustion as she adjusted her gloves.

For five relentless days and nights, she had worked without rest, carefully experimenting with Orion's unique body. Each experiment had to be done carefully under her supervision, and it had finally given the results that Orion and she had been looking for.

Mobius finally leaned back, her gloved hands resting briefly on the edge of the operating table.

She exhaled deeply and stretched, her serpent-like smirk returning to her lips. "Alright, little test subject," she drawled, her voice dripping with mock affection. "Even a snake needs some rest. Yawn~."

Orion swung his legs off the examination table. He reached for a white lab coat hanging nearby and draped it over his shoulders.

Mobius raised an eyebrow, her sharp gaze catching the coat's faintly frayed hem. "Interesting choice," she murmured, noticing it was her own coat.

Orion adjusted the collar of the coat and turned to her. "Thank you, Doctor," he said with genuine gratitude. "If you ever need anything, I'll be there without hesitation."

Mobius tilted her head slightly, her signature mischievous smile returning. She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Feel free to visit my lab anytime. This is a treatment that no one else receives." Her words carried a playful edge.

Orion remained composed, though he thought about the countless tales of others who avoided Mobius's lab like the plague. Except for me, no one else dares to visit your lab often, he mused, keeping the thought to himself.

If he hadn't learned from Welt Yang's example, he would never have dared to undergo such a procedure.

However, as he continued to master his abilities, Orion developed new ideas that he soon hoped to put into practice.
