Honkai Star Rail Starting With Judgement of Shamash

Chapter 87: Chapter 87 The Offer

Mobius approached Orion and said, "Something about you doesn't add up. You're hiding something."

Her voice was soft, almost gentle, but her words cut through like she could see right into Orion's thoughts.

Orion took a deep breath, locking eyes with her, and replied evenly, "Dr. Mobius, it's risky to draw conclusions without proof."

"No proof?" she repeated, her laugh low and unsettling. Straightening, Mobius folded her hands behind her back, an air of knowing surrounding her as though she already had the answer.

She took a few unhurried steps back and sat in her chair again, her gaze never leaving him, and her lips curled in a faint smirk as she asked, "So, Orion, what exactly are your abilities? I must admit—I'm intrigued."

Orion picked up a pen lying on the table beside him and held it up, showing it to her with a steady hand. Then, with his other hand, he made a subtle motion in front of her, and in a flash of light, an identical pen appeared, flawless in every detail.

"Oh~," Mobius murmured, her eyes glinting with curiosity. She leaned in slightly, studying the second pen with an intrigued expression. There was no sleight of hand, no tricks; the copy was a perfect match in form, weight, and even minor scratches.

"Simulate, replicate... or perhaps 'construct' is a better term?" She mused, her gaze sharp as she pieced together Orion's ability in a heartbeat.

"You could put it that way, Doctor," he replied, "but I'm more curious—what's your definition of'science'?"

Mobius tilted her head thoughtfully, her green hair shifting as it caught the light. "Science," she began, voice dropping to a quiet intensity, "isn't something easily summarized.

But I'll say this—no one on this little planet, not even me, has even scratched the surface of what true science really is." She paused, her gaze heavy with ambition. "It's more than just gaining knowledge; it's reaching into the unknown and making it known."

"Humans have always been driven to explore the nature of their world," Orion began, a contemplative glint in his eyes. "Over centuries, they've constructed a system of knowledge called'science,' an ever-evolving structure, shifting with each discovery and revision."

Orion continued, "We know that what people consider 'truth' today may not hold tomorrow. Science, in the end, is simply a summary of what we're capable of understanding at any given moment. We call that limited understanding 'reason.'"

Turning his attention to Mobius, he added, "As for my ability, call it 'The Herrscher of Reason.' If I understand the inner workings of something, I can recreate it—whether it's a plane, a tank, or something beyond even that."

He met her gaze, a slight smile curving his lips. "If I comprehend it, I can create it. That's very human, don't you think, Dr. Mobius?"

Orion tossed the pen to Mobius, and she caught it. The pen was real, down to every little detail, including coffee stains from the day before. It was perfect.

Orion explained his abilities, and Mobius thought deeply about what he had said.

"Too bad I can't use that power right now," Orion thought. The pen trick was really from his connection to his [Remembrance] abilities.

His power was a lot like the Herrscher of Reason's. Even without using Honkai energy, he could bluff his way though.

"If you understand it, can you create it?" Mobius looked at Orion. This kind of power had never been seen in history.

What kind of force could give someone this ability? Mobius was intrigued. If she could fully understand Orion, could she use him to push her own evolution?

She couldn't help but smile, feeling intrigued.

Orion was hiding secrets; of that she was certain. His reasons for joining the MOTHs were still a mystery. But did his motives even matter?

Mobius had always questioned the boundaries of humanity while seeking evolution—who or what defines it? Was it mere flesh and bone, or society's perception of itself, or something far beyond?

To her, the survival of humanity was a side note, a mere circumstance. The human experience didn't have to be confined to bodies or to Earth. There had to be something more, something infinite.

"I was right," she murmured softly, her gaze sharpening as if she had uncovered a precious gem. "Orion, you are very interesting indeed." Her eyes gleamed as she regarded him, a rare treasure finally within her grasp.

"Dr. Mobius," Orion began, his tone calm but purposeful. "I have a deal to offer you. Are you interested?"

Mobius leaned forward; her curiosity piqued. "What are you offering?" she replied.

The organization MOTH had just introduced a fresh wave of recruits, prepared to confront the ever-growing threat of Honkai energy sweeping across the world.

Their selection process was notoriously rigorous; MOTH accepted only the most elite individuals, carefully chosen from a pool of capable soldiers.

Yet, the process to join was cloaked in secrecy. None of the seasoned members ever spoke of the grueling trials they had endured, and those who survived often shied away from mentioning it—faces pale, memories suppressed.

But amid this new crop of hardened recruits stood one figure who defied the atmosphere.

Her face held an almost unsettling calm, a carefree demeanor that suggested she regarded the entire ordeal as little more than a field trip. Her stance was relaxed, almost playful, in sharp contrast to the others, who bore the weight of their trials with stoic reserve.

Soft footsteps echoed through the corridor, and her voice rang out, as bright as her lighthearted presence.

"So, this is MOTH?" She glanced around, eyes sparkling with curiosity, as though the weight of the organization's formidable reputation hadn't registered with her at all. "I wonder if the person I'm looking for is here." With a slight skip in her step, she strolled forward, like a pristine flower floating in the wind.
