Su Jinyan stroked his chin thoughtfully. "If I must choose one, it would have to be Aha."
A sense of relief flickered in Qingque's gaze.
Mystery solved—it turns out he's a follower of the Eternal Bliss Heavenly Monarch.
At that moment, a female diviner clad in amethyst robes abruptly pushed open the door.
"Ah, if it isn't Qingque. How rare! To actually see you at work during office hours," teased the Amethyst-robed diviner.
"I wouldn't have believed it myself if someone told me," she continued jestingly.
"Sis Ruoyue, don't even mention it." Qingque shrugged, spreading her hands. "The Grand Diviner caught me and assigned me to cover a shift; otherwise, who'd give me such responsibilities?"
Su Jinyan inwardly nodded, confirming his suspicion—Qingque was not part of the organization.
If she truly belonged to the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, upon learning that I have no faith in the Benevolent Medicine King, she would have turned against me immediately.
"Little Sparrow," Ruoyue asked, "have you completed the work summary requested by the Grand Diviner? The deadline is tonight."
Qingque's lips curved slightly. "Of course," she hummed. "Who do you think I am? I submitted it last night."
BEEP—
The polygraph promptly sounded its alarm.
Qingque quickly corrected herself, "Uh, actually, I handed it in this morning."
BEEP—
Qingque's charming face showed surprise. "Eh? It wasn't submitted? Maybe someone ate it?"
BEEP—
Ruoyue remained silent, speechless.
"Who would be so idle as to eat a work summary?" Su Jinyan queried incredulously.
Qingque scratched her head with a sheepish grin. "Hehe, well, truthfully, I've been too busy playing cards and haven't gotten around to writing it yet."
Ruoyue clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "How can you be so lazy? You should learn from me; I finished mine over the weekend."
BEEP—
Ruoyue's gaze shifted uneasily. "Actually, it was this week."
BEEP—
Feeling awkward, Ruoyue admitted, "I'm just about to go write it now."
BEEP—
Ruoyue sighed. "Alright, I haven't figured out what to write yet either. Once you're done, can I copy your answers?"
Qingque rolled her eyes.
After Ruoyue left, Su Jinyan couldn't resist asking, "Qingque, is everyone at the Divination Commission this carefree?"
Qingque waved her hand dismissively. "Ah, don't mind these trivialities."
"Let's continue. Do you enjoy being a diviner?"
Su Jinyan responded solemnly, "Yes, no one appreciates the role of a diviner more than I do. To put it simply, being a diviner seems tailor-made for me."
BEEP—
Su Jinyan fell silent, feeling quite awkward.
Qingque urged, "Please take this seriously..."
Su Jinyan sighed, "It's just that circumstances forced my hand."
"Honestly, I didn't want to become a diviner, but they insisted I apply for the position."
Qingque's eyes brightened, sensing a shared plight with Su Jinyan. She imagined he too must have been pressured by his family into pursuing a civil service career. Just like herself, complying with her parents' expectations to secure a stable job within the Divination Commission.
Initially, Qingque thought she could finally breathe easier, unaware that the Divination Commission, responsible for intelligence, calculations, and information, was a bottomless abyss of misery for slackers.
No matter how desperately they tried to retreat, the shore remained out of sight.
The demanding workload often plunged Qingque into relentless torment, leaving her with few opportunities to relax or shirk responsibilities temporarily.
To make matters worse, every time she attempted to take it easy, the Grand Diviner caught her red-handed.
Let me tell you, the Divination Commission is not a haven for loafers—it's pure hell—
Qingque couldn't help but feel curious. "What did you do before joining here, Mr.? You don't have to answer; I'm just genuinely intrigued."
Snap!
Su Jinyan smiled mildly and pointed to his neck, where a delicate silver cross gleamed brilliantly. "Since you've asked, I'll satisfy your curiosity. Before coming to Luofu, I was once a priest."
Qingque's beautiful eyes sparkled, her interest in Su Jinyan piqued further. "So, Mr., you were previously a priest?"
Su Jinyan chuckled softly. "Yes, I spent some time on other planets, primarily focused on healing and saving lives," he explained. "The enemies there were incredibly ruthless, sparing no one, not even priests."
"Every day was spent on the brink of life and death, filled with intense excitement and peril."
Qingque pondered this. A healer dedicated to saving lives chose not to join the Alchemy Commission but instead became a diviner within our Divination Commission?
Hmm, now that's intriguing.
Su Jinyan sighed, "Originally, I wasn't too keen on becoming a diviner."
"After such busy days as a healer, I sought a more relaxed job," he explained. "But seeing the work environment at the Divination Commission, I believe I can adapt well here."
Qingque frowned slightly, "Hey, you...don't tell me you're just looking for an easy way out?"
"We newcomers aren't welcomed if all we do is slack off, and neither am I."
Beep—
Su Jinyan raised his eyebrows playfully, "I understand, I understand."
Qingque's cheeks flushed red, striving hard to maintain her positive image before the newcomer. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"I've never had any bad habits of slacking off, mind you."
Beep—
"It's only human nature to take occasional breaks; they help relax, right?"
Beep—
"That's harsh! How does it even detect that? It's just sometimes..."
Beep—
"Fine, fine, every day then, happy?" Qingque exclaimed, resignedly admitting defeat.
Su Jinyan: "I meant touching yours."
Qingque hesitated before responding, "...Please maintain some decorum."
Su Jinyan: "Miss Qingque, can I officially start today?"
With her small face solemn, Qingque replied, "To be honest, although your abilities meet the job requirements, you're the worst applicant I've ever encountered.
"Even if the Grand Diviner approves, I cannot allow you to commence work."
"The interview ends here. That's all for now."
Beep—
Feeling awkward, Qingque scratched her cheek. "Um... Do you enjoy playing Imperial Jade of the Capital?"
Su Jinyan responded firmly, "No, not really."
Beep—
Qingque's eyes curved with amusement as she extended her hand towards him.
"Heh heh, Mr. Su, welcome to the Divination Commission! Let me guide you through familiarizing yourself with your duties right away."
Gently, Su Jinyan took hold of Qingque's delicate, snow-white hand.
"Thank you. Since we'll be colleagues from now on, let's not be too formal—just call me 'A-Yan'."
Qingque smiled faintly. "Then you can simply call me 'Qingque.' And just between us, the Grand Diviner actually thinks highly of you."
Under Qingque's guidance, it took some time, but Su Jinyan finally became acquainted with the workflow at the Divination Commission.
The senior diviner, Hui Xing, presented Su Jinyan with an identity token and a specialized jade divination tablet. With this tablet, he could access Luofu's internal network forums to browse, post, and comment.
Qingque, seizing her chance while Su Jinyan was distracted, attempted to sneak away unnoticed. After all, she had already completed Lady Fu Xuan's assigned task; it seemed like a perfect time for a couple of relaxing rounds of cards.
But Su Jinyan, swift as lightning, grabbed Qingque by the collar. "Oh, you little sparrow, how sneaky! Trying to slip off for a game of cards?"
"You're my senior here, yet on my first day, you set such an example?" Su Jinyan chided gently. "Qingque, wouldn't you rather I not report your slacking to Lady Fu Xuan?"
Qingque pouted indignantly. "Aiya, please don't tell the Grand Diviner. Can't admitting my mistake be enough?"
Su Jinyan said sternly, "Teach me how to play cards, and I'll forgive you."
At that moment, the System's voice chimed in again:
[Did you know? Fu Xuan's favorite treat is sweet pastries, and after long hours at Xiao Xu, she most enjoys sipping Dragon Girl's specially brewed medicinal tea—with sugar, more sugar, and just a touch extra.]
[Considering how highly Fu Xuan regards Qingque, if caught slacking together... ]
[One of you is definitely doomed. Care to guess who?]
