Hollywood:Starting out as an MV director

Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Winning Her Heart

Jessica contacted Ethan for a favor. She didn't clarify much over the phone, only asking him to visit her film set.

The film set was for Sin City, a movie adapted from a comic of the same name. Filming had already begun, co-directed by Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, and Quentin Tarantino.

It was a highly stylized film featuring a unique blend of noir and violent aesthetics.

After receiving Jessica's request, Ethan didn't hesitate and asked Tom to drive him to the set location.

On the way, he received a call from Jimmy, who updated him on the recent developments. Supreme Creative had officially signed an acquisition agreement with International United Media. Under Fernando's leadership, they had completed an understanding and transition of advertising channels in California and other linked states.

Supreme Creative was now a full-fledged advertising agency capable of offering broader services to clients. Naturally, their prices had risen. Even existing clients would need to pay the new, higher rates when signing new contracts.

This was aggressive but reflected the reality of the advertising industry in New York.

Big agencies like Ogilvy, Crown Creative, and Hemei Advertising had all raised their prices. Without disrupting the established control over advertising channels, there was no way to lower prices.

Moreover, Supreme Creative had begun accepting ad placement business from various small and medium-sized agencies, earning additional revenue.

After discussing Supreme Creative's future with Jimmy, Ethan arrived at the Sin City set.

As soon as he stepped out of the car, he saw a familiar face with a receding hairline—Quentin Tarantino.

"Ha ha ha, Ethan! Long time no see!" Quentin laughed heartily, giving Ethan a tight hug.

Then, he gave Ethan a thumbs-up. "You're amazing, Ethan. Your films are phenomenal!"

"Your films are phenomenal too!" Ethan bantered back before heading to the shooting location.

Jessica was on stage, performing a dazzling dance. She wore a black rhinestone bra and jeans, holding a massive lasso that she twirled as she twisted her hips.

The light played over her skin, highlighting her every muscle line.

However, midway through her performance, Jessica lost control of the lasso, and it flew out of her grasp.

Everyone turned to look, only to see Ethan caught in the center of the lasso.

"Ha ha ha ha!" Quentin was the first to burst out laughing. "Ethan, it seems you've been chosen. Go on and bond with our sexy goddess."

The others joined in laughter as Jessica, noticing Ethan, lit up and quickly jumped off the stage.

"You're here, Ethan," Jessica said as she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and approached him under everyone's watchful eyes.

"So, what's the matter, my sexy goddess?" Ethan leaned back slightly, praising her, "Your outfit is truly fiery."

"It's nothing much," Jessica shrugged. "They just wanted to take a group photo with you. It's for the film."

"A group photo?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Bruce Willis, who starred in 12 Monkeys, walked over and said, "That's right. They say your photos bring good luck. The directors want to give it a try."

"You won't refuse me, will you? That would break my heart," Quentin joked, slinging an arm around Ethan's shoulders like an old friend.

Ethan made a helpless expression. "Of course not. But you should've told me earlier; I didn't bring my camera."

"We have cameras here. Can't we just use those?" Quentin asked, puzzled.

"Of course not!" Ethan replied seriously. "When I take photos, I must use my own camera. It's a ritual, you know? It's not just a simple photo."

"A ritual? Like witchcraft or some mysterious Eastern magic?" Bruce Willis exclaimed in amazement, and the others also widened their eyes.

Westerners are often fascinated by such things. Religion is an integral part of their lives, so their first instinct is to believe in mysterious concepts they don't understand.

Ethan's mixed heritage and subtle Eastern traits only added to this sense of mystique.

"Really?" Quentin added dramatically, "Magic!"

Ethan chuckled. "Not that mystical. It's more like how priests use their own Bibles for prayers. You've never heard of a priest borrowing someone else's Bible, right?"

"Yeah… that makes sense," Quentin nodded. "So, where's your camera? Can we get it delivered quickly? We'll cover the shipping cost."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, amused by their belief.

Though the ritual aspect wasn't entirely false, Ethan genuinely preferred using his camera for such moments. So, he instructed Tom to retrieve it and said to Quentin, "I've sent someone to get it, but it'll take two days."

"No problem!" Quentin agreed without hesitation.

Ethan was then ushered into the director's area, chatting with the directors about the film.

After the shoot wrapped for the day, Jessica, now dressed in white sportswear, approached Ethan. "Ethan, want to grab dinner?"

"Sure," Ethan replied, only for Quentin to interject, "I was going to invite you to dinner, but it seems you're busy tonight, buddy."

Ethan merely shot him a sidelong glance, prompting Quentin to laugh and walk away.

"Let's go; I'll drive," Ethan said, taking Jessica to his car.

"Where to?" he asked as they drove.

"My place," Jessica replied without hesitation.

"What?" Ethan glanced at her beautiful face. "Why?"

"I'm a great cook. Better than eating out," Jessica explained with feigned nonchalance. "I've got potatoes, steak, onions, chicken, broccoli…"

She rambled, clearly flustered, as if afraid Ethan would vanish again.

"Alright then, let's taste the cooking of our sexy goddess," Ethan said, staring at Jessica, who seemed both confused and delighted.

After some time, Jessica realized they hadn't moved. "What's wrong?"

"You haven't told me your address," Ethan replied, amused.

Blushing, Jessica stammered out her address, which Ethan located on a paper map before driving over.

In an era without GPS, finding places was indeed a hassle.

Jessica's home was a standalone villa. She hurried inside as soon as they arrived, seemingly to tidy up before Ethan entered.

Ethan chuckled, parked the car, and entered the warmly decorated home filled with greenery and cozy furniture.

"I'm sorry, the place is a bit messy," Jessica said as she gathered scattered clothes into a basket, chatting with Ethan as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

Ethan sat beside her, helping her with the clothes. "Do you live alone?"

"Oh, my parents are traveling in India. They mentioned sending some souvenirs soon."

"Masala?" Ethan asked, his primary impression of India being its spices.

"How did you know? They said it's delicious and popular there."

Ethan shrugged. "I'd suggest caution. Better not buy street food."

Jessica chuckled as she finished tidying up and put on an apron to cook. Ethan watched her work, impressed by her culinary skills.

The steak was perfectly seared to medium doneness, paired with mashed potatoes, onions, and cherry tomatoes. When she served the dish, it felt almost like home.

"Try it," Jessica said, sitting across from Ethan with expectant eyes.

Ethan nodded, cutting a piece of steak and tasting it, his eyebrows rising in pleasant surprise.

The flavor and texture were excellent, far surpassing the culinary skills of the other women he knew.

Anne Hathaway ranked second—though she and Jessica were the only two who cooked. The rest relied on restaurants. Avril Lavigne, for instance, indulged in high-calorie fast food but maintained her slim figure.

"Oh, I forgot the wine!" Jessica suddenly exclaimed, rushing to grab a bottle. She poured them each a glass after Ethan opened it.

"Cheers!" Their glasses clinked before they each took a sip.

"You danced beautifully today," Ethan complimented, recalling her lasso performance.

Jessica smiled. "I practiced for a long time but still made mistakes."

"But you recovered perfectly. Quentin kept praising you," Ethan reassured her.

"That's great to hear. Quentin's known for high standards. Watching Kill Bill reminded me of our work together on Over the Top."

"Yeah…" Ethan reminisced, feeling like a lot of time had passed.

"Another glass," Jessica said, refilling their glasses.

"Cheers!" The clinking of glasses continued, until Ethan stopped her, holding her hand steady.

"What's wrong, Jessica? You seem off tonight."

Jessica, her face flushed, whispered, "Ethan, I don't know."

Ethan moved closer, letting her head rest on his shoulder.

"What's bothering you, Jessica? This isn't like you."

Jessica began crying uncontrollably.

"I'm sorry, Ethan. I argued with my parents and told them terrible things. I didn't mean it… but they left because of me. I feel so alone."

Ethan gently stroked her back. "It's not your fault, Jessica."

"No… you don't understand," she sobbed. "I shouldn't have said those things. They were disappointed and left me. I don't know if they'll come back."

"Lie down for a while, Jessica, take it easy."

Sitting on the couch, Jessica gradually calmed down. The two of them leaned against each other in silence for a long time.

After about ten minutes, Jessica seemed to have sobered up a bit. She looked at the tear stains she had left on Ethan's shirt, feeling embarrassed. "It's all my fault… Ethan, I'm so useless… Take off your shirt, I'll wash it for you."

Ethan nodded, taking off his shirt to reveal his well-toned upper body. In his free time, he regularly hit the gym, and with Tom's training, his physique had become quite impressive.

Seeing Ethan's bare torso, Jessica couldn't help but reach out and touch his muscles.

"Are you taking advantage of me?" Ethan teased, meeting Jessica's gaze.

Jessica stared at him intently, her eyes scanning his upper body before her lips curled into a playful smile. "Yes, I am. So, do you want to take it back?"

"Of course." Ethan leaned in closer until their lips met.

"Mmm..."

Soon, the backrest of the couch was littered with clothes and pants. It began to move like a massage chair, vibrating at varying speeds—sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

Even the nearby coffee table trembled gently from the vibrations.

Half an hour later, the dining table started vibrating too, followed by the kitchen counter, and finally the bathroom.

After two whole hours, Jessica lay back down on Ethan's chest, completely spent.

"Ethan… you're amazing," she murmured, exhaustion and contentment in her voice as sleep overtook her, her eyelids growing heavy.

Ethan rested his hand on her smooth, firm back, holding her close as they drifted off together.

The next morning, back on the set, Tom had already brought Ethan's camera.

"Ethan, this time everything's ready, right?" Quentin and the other directors, along with the actors, stood near the monitors. They hadn't even started filming yet, all waiting for Ethan to take the photo.

"Yeah, no problem. Let's do it. Everyone, gather in the center for a group photo!" Ethan adjusted the settings on his camera, a mischievous glint appearing in his eyes.
