Chapter 29: Ch-29: So your name is kingsu
Xiyan entered the tent to rest. Haruno Sakura, hearing the sound, cautiously peeked out to assess the situation. When she saw Naruto, she quickly emerged, her voice laced with concern. "Naruto? Are you okay? What just happened?"
Naruto shrugged and replied nonchalantly, "A group of guys with bad intentions just tried something, but they got beaten back. No need to worry, it's safe now."
"Oh." Sakura nodded, but her mind felt blank. She had never witnessed actual combat before. The intensity of the situation left her in shock.
Moments later, Hinata rushed back with Iruka and several other teachers. After Iruka understood what had happened, he made the decision to end the survival drill early, feeling that it was the safest course of action given the recent events. The teachers spread out to gather the students.
Hinata, seeing that Naruto was unharmed, let out a sigh of relief. Her worry that had been weighing heavily on her heart was finally lifted.
As the students assembled one by one, Kurama's voice echoed in Naruto's mind, interrupting his thoughts. "Naruto, this is an opportunity."
Naruto, intrigued, asked inwardly, "An opportunity for what?"
Kurama's voice dripped with calculated intent. "With your current physical resilience, even if you were separated from me, you wouldn't die."
Naruto was skeptical. "Are you sure about that? I could survive something like that?"
Kurama scoffed. "Are you questioning my judgment? Now listen, after what just happened, they'll increase their surveillance on you as a Jinchūriki. More Anbu will be watching you closely. You're near Konoha's border. If you can find a secluded place, I can break free."
Naruto felt a surge of disbelief but a flicker of curiosity burned in his mind. "Really? I can resist that kind of injury?"
Kurama's tone became impatient. "Don't doubt me. This is your best chance. But if you hesitate, you'll miss it."
Naruto paused, considering Kurama's proposition. Although he was doubtful of the claim that he could survive the separation, he realized something crucial. If Kurama tried to betray him, Naruto still had the chakra of both the Fourth Hokage and his mother, Uzumaki Kushina, sealed within him. They could work together to reseal Kurama if necessary.
Naruto made up his mind and said, "Alright, I trust you!"
In truth, Naruto didn't fully trust Kurama. But he was willing to gamble. If he succeeded, he could earn Kurama's full cooperation. If he failed, he could still suppress the Nine-Tails again with his parents' chakra. With that thought, Naruto separated himself from the group and sought a remote spot.
Kurama lounged in his sealed space, watching Naruto's movements with a cunning grin.
Naruto arrived at a location just a short distance from Konoha's border. "Is this good enough?" he asked.
Kurama responded, his voice filled with excitement, "Yes. Release the seal."
Naruto crossed his legs and entered the mental realm where Kurama resided behind the sealed gate. Kurama, lying there, trembled with anticipation as Naruto approached the iron door.
Naruto hesitated for a moment but then touched the lock on the door, removing the final layer of the seal that had held Kurama captive for so long.
Kurama's massive eyes narrowed as it watched Naruto. The fox thought to itself, Does he really believe me?
The gate swung open, but Kurama didn't immediately leap out. Instead, it remained where it was, its excitement now replaced by a calm, measured demeanor.
Naruto was confused. "Hey, Kingsu! The seal's gone. Aren't you going to leave?"
Kurama opened one eye lazily, looking at Naruto with a mocking expression. "I lied. With your current physical strength, you'd never survive without me."
Naruto clicked his tongue in annoyance. "I knew it!"
Kurama growled, swiping at Naruto with one of its massive tails, catching him. "You brat, trying to outwit me?" it said angrily.
But Naruto met Kurama's gaze confidently. "It's not about outwitting you. I just wanted to see what you'd do, Kingsu. You're like a fox testing a friend."
Kurama's expression faltered, feeling momentarily caught off guard. It sighed, releasing Naruto. "I just wanted to see if you'd really follow through and let me go. No hard feelings."
Naruto brushed himself off and grinned. "I trusted you, didn't I?"
Kurama shook its head, amazed by Naruto's audacity. "Do you understand what it means for you to have broken my seal?"
Naruto nodded internally, thinking about the chakra of his parents he could still rely on, but outwardly he said, "It means I could die at any time. But we're friends, right? In a dream, some old guy said I'd befriend the tailed beasts and save the world. That kind of thing."
Kurama regarded Naruto thoughtfully. "You remind me of someone... that old guy was Ashura, wasn't it?"
"Yeah," Naruto confirmed, feeling pleased that Kurama was beginning to open up.
Kurama's tone shifted to a more serious one. "You trusted me, so I won't force your hand. I've been locked away for so long, I can wait a bit longer. Once you're truly strong enough to survive, I'll leave. No tricks."
Naruto shrugged with a smile. "Suit yourself. But honestly, it's kind of cruel to keep a small animal locked up for so long."
Kurama roared indignantly, "Who are you calling a small animal?!"
Naruto laughed, "Alright, alright! You're the mighty Nine-Tails, Kingsu."
Kurama was about to respond when suddenly its expression changed. It stiffened, its eyes narrowing as it sensed something familiar. A familiar chakra began to materialize in the space.
Naruto turned, his eyes widening as a human form emerged from the swirling chakra—a woman with long red hair and a gentle expression.
"Naruto?" a soft voice called out.
Naruto blinked, confused but curious. "Who are you, lady? How are you inside me?"
Kurama couldn't help but snicker. "Naruto, that's your mother. You're such an ungrateful son not recognizing her."
The red-haired woman—Uzumaki Kushina—stepped forward, her attention drawn to the sight of Kurama unsealed. Her eyes widened in surprise. "Kingsu? Why are you unsealed?"
Kurama cringed at the name. "Don't call me Kingsu!" it growled.
That nickname had been given to it long ago by Uzumaki Mito, and Kushina had carried it on. Now, with Naruto hearing it, the fox was afraid of losing its dignity.
Naruto burst out laughing. "Kingsu? That's your nickname? I'm calling you that from now on!"
Kurama froze in horror. "..."
