Hogwarts: the magic of music

Chapter 38: Family

I stepped out of the knight bus into the drizzle of a summer storm. The streets of London smelled, so I hopped into the doorway of the leaky cauldron. Gathering my courage, I entered.

Tom, the owner, saw me and nodded. I walked over to him and sighed."Tom, can you tell Lady Burroughs that Mister Carter has arrived." He looked at me, a bit shocked.

"Certainly sir" he said the hobbled off after a few moments tom came back and led me to a private dining room. "Would you like anything to drink, sir?" Tom asked.

"Cup of coffee 2 sugars and milk thanks tom" handing him a few knuts. He then left me alone in the room. I sat down facing the door. Tom returned with a platter of biscuits, a French press full of coffee, a bowl of sugar cubes, and a tankard of milk. "Thank you, Tom." I poured myself a cup of how I liked it. I sat drinking, waiting. The door opened, and in walked an elderly woman with black hair, green eyes, and a sharp nose. She wore a purple robe with a dove embroidery. I stood, "Lady Burroughs," and greeted her. She had a tight smile and looked at me with searching eyes. I had just gotten a haircut, but my hair was still long, and I wore a nice black shirt and trousers.

"Come here boy let me get a look at you" she said with an aged voice. I walked around the table and stood in front of a woman.

"You have your mothers hair, and your fathers eyes" she said after getting a closer look. I looked at the woman myself; she must have been quite beautiful in her youth, but age and worry had put wrinkles on her face.

"Okay," I said " good to know" I added.

"You seemed unexcited in meeting me." She said.

"No offence ma'am but your a stranger" I said.

"I am your grandmother. This may be our first meeting, but I am your family." She seemed annoyed at my statement.

"We maybe blood but for the last 11 years I've had no family, I had accepted that. I only did the test out of curiosity," I explained. "I was hoping to be a muggle-born, to tell the truth."

She looked at me strangely. "Why?" She asked now she was evaluating me.

"Because my achievements would be my own, not because I come from a successful family." I stated, "But here we are: me with a grandmother I didn't know about and you with a grandson you didn't know about."

"Yes, let's sit and talk then." She gestured to the table I retook my seat and she sat opposite me. She poured herself a cup of coffee, too. "I thought you would be drinking tea," she said to me with mirth.

"Must be my American blood", I smiled; my accent was British because of the mannerisms I learned growing up.

"So you started school in Hogwarts?" she smiled at me.

"Yup, great school." I smiled at her.

"With your new found heritage I can get you transferred to Ilvermorny if you wish to come to America" she through out the offer. I had not expected it to be an offer.

"No, thank you, but no, England is my home, and I plan to graduate from Hogwarts" I smiled.

"Good, it's for the best. My nephew's son is currently attending Ilvermorny, and it would not be wise for you to meet them yet." Lady Burroughs explained.

"How much danger will I be in once it comes out," I questioned.

"That my daughter had a son and will be the heir of the Burroughs family." She smiled at me. "I would say a lot, but you will be an adult by then, and I will assure you will be prepared for it." She explained I looked shocked." Yes I am making you my heir, my useless nephew, is a vile man and I will not have him ruining my families legacy. But like I said, it won't be until you graduate. One of my men will be moving to England to look after you and your foster family." She explained, "he will teach you during your holidays as well."

"Where will he be staying?" I asked.

"I have purchased a house on your street, and he will live there." She explained.

"Better let professor snape know then" I said.

"Why?" She scowled, "What does that death eater have to do with it."

"He's no longer a death eater, and he lives on my street too," I said.

She scoffed, "Once you go to the dark side, there is little that can bring someone to the light." Lady Burroughs said.

"Voldemort killed the love of his life" I said a bit angrly to her "Hey betrayed the dark lord as soon as he targeted her" I added.

Lady Burroughs looked a bit shocked, "very well, you seem to trust him, so I will, too." She sighed. "Tell me about yourself, self Edward?" she asked.

So I did, I explained that 1 I liked to be called eddie not edward and how I loved music my friends in hogwarts, my report card and so on. Around lunchtime, we parted ways, saying we'd keep in touch via her man.

I went into Diagon Alley to get my school supplies. I was about to walk into Flourish and Blotts when Mr Weasley and Mr Malfoy came out tumbling. Hagrid came from behind me and separated the two. I looked at them I saw Mr malfoy slip tom riddles diary into ginnys transfiguration book. "Well, that's some exciting fun," I said as I came to stand next to Harry and the others.

"Eddie!" Harry yelled. The rest of the group saw me and greeted me.

"Come to get your school supplies?" Hermonie asked.

"Yup, also had to meet women one." I said, "Ron, is this your sister?" I looked at Ginny

"Yeah?" He said wearily.

"Pleasure to meet you, Edward Carter." I smiled and held out my hand to her.

"Ginny," she said, shaking my hand.

"Eddie here is one of the only Slytherins that is actually good," said Hermione.

I smiled at that. "Yup, and proud of it. Anyway, it looks like a madhouse in there."

"Lockhart is signing books," Ron said.

"God, he's going to be so annoying, isn't he," I said.

"What do you mean?" Asked harry.

"Didn't you notice our school books?" I said.

"Yeah, like all of Lockhart's books," said Fred ", for all years."

"Yup so I'm pretty sure he's our new defence against the dark arts teacher" I said.

"No!" the boys yelled

"Yes," the girls squealed.

I nodded. "I mean, if I could set the booklist and I was an author, I would put my books on it. 800 students forced to buy my book," I sighed. "That's a good bit of money."

"But that's not why he did it", Hermione argued.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I didn't say he did do it because of the money, just that he did do it, and the money would be good." I said, "What's probably better is the exposure."

Hermion humphed, I shrugged again.

"Any way must be off, got a busy day," I said and parted with them.

In the book store I got my required books I also asked the attendant what was the book for 2nd years usually and got that aswell. Then I headed to Madame Malkins for some new robes made from acromantula silk, with protection and cleaning charms on them. And some shirts and pants and green ties. I bought a broom as well a Cleansweep seven. I would be allowed to have one at Hogwarts now, so I might as well. Potion supplies were acquired, and I had accomplished my tasks. So I headed home.
