Hogwarts: the magic of music

Chapter 25: Sound Garden.

It was the day before term; I was sitting in a corner of what was my exercise courtyard with my guitar. It was during the day, so there were people about. I was strumming and tuning it, enjoying the sunshine.

"Hiya, Eddie - I see you got your guitar back - Are you going to play something?" Fred and George asked.

"Do you guys know any muggle song?" I asked them.

"No - but where fans of -weird sisters," they said.

"Right, the weird sisters," I nodded. "Pretty much the only wizard rock band."

"So - what's your point?" The continued.

Some people had looked over.

"My point is your British, some of the best bands in the world have come out of this country and you know one band, that's a wizard band" I said.

"But they're good, and it's not like muggles have made much - like, how many bands could there be." They asked.

"A lot like a lot. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Who and sex pistols, to name a few." As I listed them, I put up my fingers.

"Well, play us something then." Lee Jordan came over and asked.

"Okay," I strummed a few cords, then tapped.

"Okay, this one's by the Beatles, and remember, I'm just one guy with a guitar."

I looked up, pulled out my wand, and summoned my dancing light. •Her comes the sun by the Beatles•

♫Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo, here comes the sun

And I say it's all right♫

My orb seemed to like this song because it became a happy yellow colour and floated above my head.

♫Little darling, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter

Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here♫

The orb started to shine soft rays of yellow light that slowly rotated.

♫Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo, here comes the sun

And I say it's all right♫

The orb began to travel, and the people in the courtyard seemed to notice something going on in our corner.

♫Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces

Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo, here comes the sun

And I say it's all right♫

Fred and George had smiles and were swaying with each other. The students came over.

♫Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes♫

My orb swooped and danced with people as I sang.

♫Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting

Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear

Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo, here comes the sun

And I say it's all right♫

Some of the students were joining me In the doo-doo-doo-doo, part

♫Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo, here comes the sun

It's all right

It's all right♫

Ending the song, the orb flew into the sky in the direction of the sun and disappeared.

"Cool - wicked", Fred and George said.

"More!" someone yelled in the crowd.

I smiled. "How about this? I get my band, and we will play some good songs here on Saturday." I looked at the crowd.

"You have a band?" Lee Jordan asked.

"Yup, Eddie and the odd couple," I said.

"What a dumb name," Lee said.

"Eh, it's a work in progress", I answered.

It was about lunch time when I caught up with Tim and Grant, I headed into the great hall. And sat down with them. "We've got a gig," I said to them.

"Huh?" Tim said with a piece of pie in his mouth.

"To play some songs on Saturday in the courtyard," I said.

"How did this happen?" Grant asked.

"Fred and George asked me to play a song; people wanted more. I said Saturday with my band," I explained, gesturing at the two of them.

"Well that makes sense" Grant said and sipped his tea "which name did you use." He asked with an eyebrow raised.

"Eddie and the odd couple." I smiled at him.

"You mean the one we bother vetoed." Grant looked a bit ticked off.

"Yeah, I just haven't thought of anything yet. We have a week, though." Trying to calm him.

"So, how are we going to get the drums and piano down there?" Tim asked.

"Shrinking charm?" I said.

"Who's going to cast it and the reversal?" Grant asked.

"Digory?" I suggested.

"Yeah, he would be the best." Grant said, "Or Percy, but he would probably shut down the gig."

"You two wanna work out a set list?" I asked them

"What about you? You're the frontman," Tim said.

"Yes, but I want you guys to pick songs you can play or want to play," I explained. "oh, by the way, I've got a new music spell to try."

"Yeah, what does it do?" Tim asked.

"Makes me rock", I said with a smile, and both gave me blank faces. "Okay, it electrifies my guitars. It's not quite right yet, tho."

"Are we allowed to choose your originals?" Tim asked.

"Depends on which one?" I said warily. Technically, they were not originals, just future songs from my past life knowledge.

"Songbird?" Grant said. Bernard Fanning, 2005. 14 years. I had a look of concern on my face. 'Fuckit', I thought.

"Sure," I said.

In the afternoon, we met up for a study group. Mostly, it was to talk about the holiday and what we should do moving forward.

"We should do some revision on what we learned before moving on," Hermione said.

"Yeah probably" I sighed "alright pair up, any one new, with some one who isn't." There were some new faces. "There is a list of spells we have covered on the board; go through them in your own time and in whatever order you like." I chose to be an odd man out and walk between the groups and help those who need it. It turned out to be a nice afternoon.
