Highschool DxD: Damn, I'm OP as Fuck!

Chapter 31: Chapter 30: A God’s Challenge

Kenji's gaze flickered toward the grand staircase where Freya stood, descending gracefully. She was beautiful—undeniably so—but to him, that was all she was.

His interest lay elsewhere.

Behind Freya stood Ottar, the strongest adventurer in Orario. The sheer beast-like aura radiating from him was unmistakable. Their eyes met briefly. Kenji could tell—physically, they were evenly matched.

But while Kenji studied Ottar, Freya's gaze remained fixed on him.

"Renji, don't look at her!"

Suddenly, Hestia tackled him, wrapping around his head like an overprotective octopus. Her small hands clamped over his eyes, her legs squeezing his torso.

"Everyone who looks at her gets enchanted and devoured! No bones left!" she exclaimed.

Kenji let out a helpless sigh, gently peeling Hestia off his face.

"Hestia, I'm not that easy to charm," he said.

"But she's really—"

"Not as beautiful as you," he cut in smoothly, smirking as he held her in his arms. "And as a goddess, you're more than enough for me."

Hestia froze.

Her face turned red.

Liliruca gritted her teeth.

Damn it. He's too smooth…

Just as the moment grew tense, a soft voice cut through the air.

"Hestia, Loki, your relationship is as entertaining as ever."

Freya had approached them.

Her silver eyes shimmered with undisguised amusement as she glanced at the fuming Hestia and the smirking Loki.

"You again," Loki scoffed. "Tch, fine, I'll let the pipsqueak off this time."

She gave Kenji one last lingering glance, then turned to Ais. "C'mon, let's go."

Ais hesitated for a second, glanced at Kenji, then silently followed Loki.

The moment Loki left, Freya shifted her attention to Hestia.

"I heard you finally formed a Familia," she said smoothly. "Congratulations."

Hestia's mood soured immediately.

She crossed her arms and huffed. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks, I guess."

Freya's eyes briefly flickered toward Kenji, then to Liliruca.

Liliruca stiffened.

A cold sensation ran down her spine, as if her entire soul was being examined.

Kenji's gaze darkened. This feeling… it's the same one I sensed before.

That day, standing at the entrance of the dungeon, he had felt it—an unseen gaze watching him from the top of Babel Tower.

It was her all along.

---

A loud clap rang through the hall.

"Welcome, dear gods and Familia!"

All heads turned to the stage, where a golden-haired man in regal attire stood with open arms.

Apollo.

"This banquet is special," Apollo announced. "For the first time, gods can bring their Familia members."

Murmurs of approval spread through the room.

"But!" Apollo raised a hand. "There is another matter I must address."

A sinister glint appeared in his eyes.

He snapped his fingers.

Two adventurers dragged in a stretcher.

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

Kenji's expression didn't change.

I was wondering when this would happen.

Liliruca's eyes widened. "That's—!"

Hestia paled.

On the stretcher lay Beteomon, the drunken adventurer Kenji had cut down nights ago.

His entire right arm was gone, his body bandaged like a mummy.

"This poor, unfortunate soul," Apollo said dramatically. "A devoted member of my Familia—brutally attacked."

His gaze locked onto Kenji.

"And the culprit… is none other than Kenji of the Hestia Familia!"

A tense silence fell over the room.

Some gods chuckled, already knowing where this was going.

Others watched with interest, waiting to see how Hestia's Familia would handle this.

Kenji met Apollo's gaze directly.

He already knew—this wasn't about justice.

This was about war.
