Chapter 33: Walking in the City (Part 2)
As I entered the mediation office, even more gazes gathered around me than before. Almost everyone was looking at Shiro. Some seemed to be looking at Kuro as well. It seems I’m barely in anyone’s field of vision. I went to the usual counter, where Hajiramu was sharpening his nails.
“Long time no see.”
“Oh… it’s you, Bonus.”
“I’d like to leave a message again. Is that okay?”
“For Marie, right? You seem quite eager.”
“Well, unexpected things happened, you know.”
“Is the content the same as before?”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
“This time… we don’t need mercenaries.”
“Ah, for the time being, things seem to be under control.”
“By the way… uh…”
Hajiramu unusually hesitates. Is there some bad news?
“I heard you’re selling chocolate and coffee?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“So, could you sell them to me too next time?”
“Sure, but why the sudden interest?”
“Marie… keeps complaining when you don’t show up, so I got curious. If they’re that good, I want to try them.”
Is this guy, with his poker face, actually a gourmet? It’s possible. He seems to have plenty of money and doesn’t seem like the type to play around with women. Maybe he spends his money on food and clothes. But it’s cute how embarrassed he is about wanting chocolate. It doesn’t benefit anyone, though.
“I see. I’ll have Shiro or Kuro bring them to you during work tomorrow.”
“…Thanks. And don’t smirk.”
“Okay then, take care of the message!”
“Yeah…”
I’ve already achieved today’s quota. But there still seems to be time until dusk. Should I go to places I haven’t been able to visit yet?
I decided to visit the Dogor Black Market, the most dangerous place in terms of security, to buy weapons. This time, unlike before, I brought Kuro and Shiro with me. For these two, their appearance has become quite respectable. I hope this means they won’t be underestimated so easily.
“Bonus.”
“Hmm? What’s wrong, Shiro?”
“That.”
Shiro points to a stall. On the ground, cloth is spread out, and there are a large number of clubs, maces, axes, and other weapons arranged in a disorderly manner. Since there are no swords, it must be a mace specialty shop. In the back, there’s a tall silver-haired woman lounging lazily. Ah, she’s an oni… She’s beckoning to us. Is she a friend of Shiro’s?
“――――”
“Let’s speak this language. Here, I’m called Shiro.”
It seems she greeted Shiro in oni language. She’s looking at me and Kuro with interest.
“Oh? You can speak this language now?”
“Yeah.”
“Pleased to meet you. I’m… uh… Gisella, from the same hometown as Shiro. I’m an oni.”
She looks like a sexy older sister with her exposed appearance, but her way of speaking is fluffy and a little childish. Compared to Shiro, she’s overall petite.
“Nice to meet you, Bonus. This is Kuro, an imp.”
“Guu!”
“Oh? She’s an imp… I’ve never seen one like her before.”
“I get that a lot.”
“Shiro made a new friend. That’s great.”
“Yeah. It’s great.”
“Smile~”
Gisella and Shiro seem to get along quite well. Gisella speaks much more fluently than Shiro, so maybe she’s been living in Savoia for a long time. Maybe the weapons Shiro originally had were prepared by Gisella.
“Oh? Where’s Shiro’s weapon?”
“It got all bent.”
“Wow, still as strong as ever. You need something sturdier next time.”
“The machete also broke.”
“Oh no. Hey? Did Shiro grow bigger? She was already big, but… Oh, what happened to her horns? What’s going on?”
“I don’t know.”
“What’s that all about?! I want it! I want long horns too!”
As expected, Shiro is one of the bigger onis, huh?
It’s quite rare for horns to grow longer. Maybe it’s because she lives in Hell or because she’s eating Kidanakemo’s meat… who knows?
“Gisella, if it’s okay, could you help Shiro choose a weapon? I only have a budget of 100,000 reis, though…”
“It’s impossible to get a weapon for Shiro that won’t break for 100,000 reis. But I’ll give Shiro a weapon.”
“Are you sure, Gisella?”
“Yeah, sure. In return, you’ll treat us tonight. Let’s go out for drinks together after so long!”
“I can’t leave Bonus behind.”
“Then let’s all go out for drinks together!”
“Guu! Guu!”
Somehow, the conversation shifted to drinking… well, since it seems she’s going to treat us to a weapon worth more than 100,000 reis, it’s okay once in a while.
“I haven’t been in Savoia for long, so I don’t know the shops well. Can I leave it to you?”
“Sure thing! Let’s quickly pick a weapon… the sturdiest one is… this one.”
Gisella rummaged through the wooden box behind her and pulled out a black metallic bat-like object. It’s exactly like an oni’s iron club.
“This should be okay for a while, right? Here you go.”
“Can I give it a swing?”
“It’s quite heavy because it’s filled with iron inside. Be careful.”
Kuro held the iron club and swung it effortlessly like a tennis racket. The tip was so fast it was barely visible. Whether it’s an optical illusion or reality, every time Shiro swings it, the club seems to vibrate quite a bit. It’s terrifying.
“Whoa… this still seems like it might break soon…”
“It’s okay, it’s in pretty good condition.”
“I see. Well, I guess all swords are the same. Just take whichever. Use about 10% of your strength.”
“Okay.”
“Alright! Business for today is done! I’m going to tidy up the shop now, so can you wait?”
“I don’t mind. I’ve completed all my tasks for today anyway.”
“Guu!”
Gisella quickly finished closing the shop and effortlessly lifted a large amount of baggage on her own. She’s quite strong too…
“Alright! Let’s go out for drinks then!”
