Chapter 181: Chapter 23: Fragments of Honkai Crystals
Just as the monster was about to bite off Yae Sakura's head...
Kallen, standing nearby, fired her Tranquil Rhapsody with a swift motion. The purple glow flashed, and the giant head of the Honkai Beast above Yae Sakura... instantly exploded.
At the same time... the fragments of exploded flesh were directly frozen by the bullet's ice-carrying force.
Until the entire body of the Honkai Beast was completely encased in ice.
Yae Sakura stood before the Honkai beast, watching as it transformed into a block of ice... The beast's head exploded, sending shards of ice and pieces of flesh flying into her face, causing a slight sting.
But Yae paid no attention to the blood and gore splattering her skin...
She simply looked on quietly as the ice-bound Honkai beast crashed to the ground.
I... was truly too arrogant, wasn't I?
Kallen-nee had always emphasized the terrifying power of Honkai beasts and their extraordinary strength. They wield the most potent force in this world: Honkai energy. It's nigh impossible for an ordinary person to slay one easily.
And yet... I made such a grave mistake.
If Kallen-nee hadn't intervened and saved me, I'd be nothing but a meal in that beast's belly right now, wouldn't I?
Yae began to castigate herself...
"Sakura, are you alright?"
Kallen retracted her Tranquil Rhapsody and rushed to Yae Sakura's side, next to the Honkai beast's carcass. She gazed at her sister with concern.
Let's just hope this doesn't deal her too much damage.
"I'm fine... Kallen-nee," Yae replied softly.
Hearing Kallen's worried tone, Yae Sakura looked up at the beautiful woman standing before her, realizing she owed Kallen's life to her yet again.
I'll never be able to repay her...
"Are you alright, Sis? That was so dangerous! If Kallen hadn't intervened, things might've been terrible for you." Yae Rin approached her sister, her face filled with concern.
Just moments ago, Yae Rin had been so scared her heart felt like it would jump out of her chest.
"Kallen-nee, Rin... am I really useless? I don't seem to do anything right..." Yae Sakura chided herself, feeling disheartened.
"What kind of thought is that? Sakura, you're incredibly strong! Our home stands today because of you and your efforts. Whether it's cooking, sewing, or managing our chores, you do everything brilliantly.
If someone like you isn't considered capable, then there'd be no one deemed worthy in this world."
"Besides, I've said it before - Honkai Beasts were still too much for you to handle at your current level. In a few more years... you'll easily overpower them."
Seeing Yae Sakura's self-doubt, Kallen walked over, reaching out with a comforting embrace.
At present, Yae Sakura was still young, just a child...
Especially since Yae Rin hadn't died, there was no emptiness or corruption in Yae Sakura's heart, so... sometimes she still had a bit of childishness.
However... Kallen also liked this aspect of Yae Sakura very much.
"Exactly, exactly! If even big sis has a use, then what about Rin? From now on, you mustn't think like that anymore. Just as Kallen-nee said, we need to work even harder at our training. In a few more years... these so-called Honkai Beasts or monsters definitely won't be a match for us."
Standing beside Yae Sakura, Yae Rin also cheered her up.
How could Yae Sakura possibly be useless? Ever since they were young, she had taken care of herself, and for her sake, she dared to defy her father, all the villagers, and even the Godly Being.
Such a big sis—how could she possibly be a useless person? On the contrary... maybe it was actually herself who was the useless one, wasn't it?
Ever since they were young, her big sis had taken care of her, and she couldn't do anything at all. Her health had never been good... she hadn't been able to help her big sis even a little bit.
"Rin has already said it. If you keep being so self-critical, you'll break her heart! You're the big sister—you can't make your little sister sad, okay?"
Kallen patted Yae Sakura on the head. Poor little Sakura, always worrying too much...
Kallen had clearly told them they weren't ready to face Honkai Beasts yet.
"Mm... I won't, anymore," Yae Sakura said, her expression returning to normal after hearing her sister and Kallen's words of comfort. "I promise."
"Now that's our dear Yae!" they replied, relieved.
After comforting Yae Sakura, Kallen turned her attention to the nearby frozen remains of a Honkai Beast.
She gazed upon the corpse for a moment before spreading her arms wide.
A crystal fragment emerged from the Honkai Beast's body, soaring directly into Kallen's hands.
As the crystal fragment departed, the Honkai Beast's remains instantly turned to ash, vanishing before their eyes.
"Kallen, what's that?" Yae Sakura and Yae Rin stood beside Kallen, curiosity blooming as they observed the object she had extracted from the Honkai Beast's carcass.
"This is a shard of Honkai Crystal, a crystallization of Honkai energy. It's this that transformed the creature into a Honkai Beast."
Kallen opened her right hand, causing Honkai fragments to float in her palm. They appeared incredibly beautiful, but this beauty concealed their brutal nature.
These fragments... were symbolic of Honkai itself.
-
"Honkai crystal fragments? But aren't they extremely dangerous? If other animals were to obtain one, wouldn't new monsters arise?" Upon hearing Kallen's explanation, Sakura and her sister gazed fearfully at the crystal fragment in Kallen's hand, never having imagined that such a tiny fragment could be the cause of monster creation.
"Yes! The power of Honkai is immense, but also incredibly dangerous. Those capable of controlling it have always been a select few."
Most individuals, unable to withstand Honkai's corruption, would transform into monsters.
Even Valkyries weren't truly beautiful beings. The strength of each Valkyrie, whether through their weapons or Stigmata, was built upon a foundation of cruel and horrifying experiments.
This power was never beautiful; it was forged from the suffering of others.
Whether it be other individuals or...Sirin herself, weren't they all sacrifices in these ruthless experiments?
However... Kallen suddenly realized that at this point in time... the already corrupted Schicksal must be conducting even more horrifying and evil human experiments than Lord Otto, due to their war defeat and access to the Honkai Source.
While Lord Otto only used clone bodies for his experiments, with hundreds dying in each trial— all of them clones—the Schicksal of this era had yet to master cloning technology. Faced with the ongoing war and the plague sweeping across Europe, these crazed individuals would resort to using infected people, war captives, and even... civilians in their ruthless experiments.
One by one, living humans were directly transformed into monsters through their use of Honkai energy.
Some of those madmen even intended to use these monsters to fight against the legendary... the One True God.
