Chapter 49 – Robbing a Bank
“You…! Why did you run away just now!? Andrew was injured due to it!” Karime asked angrily. She seemed like she wanted to shoot flames from her eyes.
Andrew and Jessica said nothing, but I could see that they were angry too. They were dissatisfied by the fact that I suddenly ran away and left them to face the creature alone.
I sighed softly and looked at my three friends with a complicated expression.
“That berserk human was just a normal person before entering the dungeon. Even if the berserk mana inside the dungeon strengthened him, he was not stronger than a Tier 1 monster.
“Jessica and you are Tier 3 Awakened, Karime. And Andrew is even stronger, at Tier 4. You should not have trouble defeating this kind of monster.”
“T-That is…” Karime was startled realizing my point. She wanted to say something, but I spoke first.
“The three of you had so much trouble killing just one berserk human, and there are many berserk humans like him in this dungeon. What will happen if ten or more of them attack us at the same time then?”
The three of them turned awkward. They were not idiots, so they quickly realized why I did not help them to face the monster.
Even so, it did not mean that they were no longer angry.
“Even so, you could have told us beforehand.” Andrew frowned and said.
I smiled helplessly. Well, she was right.
However, at that moment I was only thinking about following the demon’s instructions and I did not think about it.
Plus, I never thought they would have so much trouble killing that berserk human. I mean, it was much weaker than them.
The first berserk human I killed was way stronger than it, but I did not show such an embarrassing performance.
… Well, it was not a smooth battle either, but it was much better than what Andrew, Karime, and Jessica showed just now.
I hesitated for a moment, and in the end, I decided to apologize.
“Sorry. To be honest, I only wanted to make you experience battling a berserk human. I mean, it was not that strong. I did not think you would have so much trouble killing it.”
The three of them became slightly red due to their embarrassment.
“Brother-in-law is right.” Jessica nodded with a complicated expression. “Actually, that guy was not that strong, but when I realized that he had been a human as well, my body froze and I could not fight it properly.”
I smiled wryly.
“I noticed it. And Karime and Jessica, any of you could have stopped the monster easily with your skills, but you panicked and interfered with each other. That was a grave mistake. If the monster would have been stronger, Andrew could have been gravely injured.”
The two sisters lowered their heads in embarrassment.
After that, I pointed every one of the mistakes they committed during the fight.
As I said before, a berserk human is not that strong. Even normal humans can kill them relatively easily if they keep calm and use the right tools.
But despite that, Andrew, Karime, and Jessica struggled to kill one of them despite being several times stronger than a normal person.
Moreover, the three of them are skill holders. Karime possesses the skill [Ice Creation], Jessica the skill [Ignite], and Andrew possesses a whooping number of three skills, [Body Strengthening], [Domain], and [Limit Breakthrough].
Any of them could have killed the creature easily if they used their skills properly; but instead, they panicked and struggled to take it down.
Andrew even used his strongest skill, [Limit Breakthrough], despite the fact that this skill puts a heavy burden on his body. He could have killed the creature easily without using it.
That fight was a total mess. Even I felt embarrassed about it.
But when I remembered that this was their first time killing another ‘human’ (If these monsters could still be called like that), I understood them.
It’s not easy for someone used to a peaceful life to kill a human. Only psychopaths can do something like that easily.
Thinking about it, perhaps something is wrong with me who did not react that much even when I killed my first Berserk Human.
[Stop thinking about useless things, boy. You came here to train, but you are instead losing your time babysitting useless burdens. What is the point of coming here then?]
Just shut up, will you?
I snorted inwardly before looking at my friends.
“Let’s continue. Maybe we will find other survivors soon.”
“Brother-in-law, how are you planning to find them? Should we shout that we are searching for survivors?”
“Of course not. We want to find survivors, not to attract all the monsters nearby.” I rolled my eyes at Jessica. “We will just walk through the city while killing the monsters in the way. If there are survivors nearby, there is a high chance they will notice us and come to find us.”
“What if we meet a monster stronger than us?” Karime suddenly asked.
I shrugged. “That is a risk that we need to take. You can hide and wait for the Awakened from outside to enter the dungeon if you want, but even that doesn’t eliminate the risk of a powerful monster passing by and killing you.”
“I didn’t mean that. I’m not a coward.” Karime glared at me angrily. “I was just asking if you had a plan.”
I stiffened briefly and realized that my previous words could have sound as though I thought that Karime was a coward.
It was not my intention, though. I swear.
I smiled awkwardly and apologized to her.
“Sorry, it wasn’t my intention. A-Anyway. You don’t need to worry too much. We should be in the periphery of the dungeon. The monsters around here should not be that strong. After all, stronger monsters are attracted to the core of the dungeon.”
Karime nodded and looked away as though she wanted to ignore me.
“… This sure is awkward,” Andrew muttered softly, making Jessica nod.
Guys, I can hear you.
I sighed and decided to pretend that it never happened as I led the group forward.
On the way, we met several other monsters, either berserk humans or spiders, but we killed them easily. Andrew, Karime, and Jessica still seemed a bit uncomfortable killing berserk humans, but it was much better than before.
But even after half an hour, we did not meet any other human.
“… Could it be that we are the only ones remaining?” Andrew could not help but ask that aloud.
I did not reply, but my expression turned dark. In a part of me, I felt guilty for all these people that died.
After all, I could have saved them. If I would have announced the existence of the dungeon beforehand, nothing of this would have happened.
Even if I know that the demon would have not allowed it, I still feel guilty.
Just at that moment, we heard a loud explosion.
*BOOM!!!*
We were startled. Looking at each other, we decided to rush towards the site of the explosion.
Perhaps if we were lucky, we could find survivors.
But when we reached the place of the explosion, we were stunned.
The place where we arrived was a bank.
And a group of people was robbing it.
