Chapter 21 – What School to Go
“Hahahahaha! I can imagine her face!” Sylvia was laughing happily once she returned to my room.
I put on a wry smile. “Why did you do that?”
“You didn’t like it? She was your ex-girlfriend, right? You told me that she was the one that dumped you, so I wanted to help you to take a bit of revenge.”
I did not know whether to laugh or to cry.
What is in this girl's head?
… But I must admit that seeing Karime run away like that felt a bit good. I think my pride recovered a bit.
Well, Karime will soon realize that Sylvia was just joking around. After all, we are not really in a relationship.
I smiled wryly before looking at Sylvia and putting on a serious expression.
“… Miss Sylvia, although I’m grateful that you visited me, can I know why you are here?”
“What? Could it not be that I’m worried about you?”
“I think I’m handsome, but I’m not handsome enough that a girl like you will fall in love with me at first sight.”
“Pff…” Sylvia guffawed. “… Well, I think you are above average, but yes, not enough to make me fall for you.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Then, what is the reason?”
Sylvia stared at me fixedly before curving the corners of her lips up in a mischievous smile.
“… Strange guy, did you forget what you did before falling unconscious.”
I stiffened.
… As I thought, it’s about that.
Sylvia giggled when she saw my stiff expression.
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan to tell anyone about it. I even hid it from the men of the Awakened Association. They think that the dungeon was closed normally.”
“… Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet. After all, I have a selfish motive. I hope you can answer a question of mine.”
“... Do speak,” I said after a sigh.
Most likely, she is planning to ask me about what happened to the dungeon core after I touched it.
But to my surprise, she asked me something completely different.
“Strange guy, you are planning to enter an Awakened School, right?”
“… I am. Why?” I replied confused.
“Then, can you tell me what school you are planning to go to?”
I was stunned.
“… Just that? You don’t want anything else?”
“Just that.” The girl smiled.
I was completely dumbfounded.
I mean, I was ready to be blackmailed or asked to reveal some of my secrets, but she just asked me what school I am planning to join.
“… Are you sure you didn’t fall in love with me?”
“Of course not.” Sylvia rolled her eyes. “Stop thinking too much, okay? Just tell me the name of the school.”
“… Sanctuary’s First Awakened College,” I replied.
“Great.” Sylvia smiled. “I was worried that you were joining a subpar school, but if It’s Sanctuary’s First Awakened College, then it’s perfect.”
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing much, I’m just planning to join the same place as you.”
I froze.
“Surprised?” Sylvia grinned “Don’t worry, though. I’m really not in love with you or anything like that. However, I’m curious about the secrets you are hiding.”
My expression immediately hardened, and my eyes stared at Sylvia warily.
“… What are you planning?”
“Hehehe, nothing bad of course. I’m just curious, that is all. Plus, mom is forcing me to join a school even when I don’t want to. At least, going to the same school as you seems a bit interesting.”
I put on a strange expression.
Again, what the hell is going on in this girl’s head?
Sylvia smiled at my expression and before putting on a curious expression.
“By the way, strange guy. With your current strength, joining Sanctuary’s First Awakened College will be a bit hard. Have you already considered that?”
“… I will manage somehow.”
“Then I don’t need to worry.” Sylvia grinned. “I look towards studying with you, strange guy. Bye bye.”
After saying that, she winked and left.
I heaved a tired sigh.
“… What in the hell is wrong with this girl…”
[Boy, I still think you should keep yourself as far from her as possible. That girl is dangerous.] The demon spoke in my mind as soon as Sylvia was gone.
“Do you think she can discover you?”
[… I doubt it. I recovered a bit of strength after you absorbed the core of the dungeon, so although I’m still weak, I should be able to keep myself hidden as long as it’s not someone at the level of an Irregular or a god.]
“Irregular? God? Anyway, I think we can’t avoid meeting her again.”
[… Are you planning to go to that school?]
I smiled bitterly. “She knows that I absorbed the core of the dungeon. What do you think will happen if she tells anyone about it?”
The demon fell silent before sighing.
[Then, try to have as little contact with her as possible. Although her powers did not seem related to seeing through past, present, and future, they are still abilities related to Fate. And these kinds of abilities are very troublesome. In the worst of the cases, I can't discard the probability of her finding out about me.]
“… Are abilities related to fate that terrifying?”
[They are.] The demon nodded gravely. [They are the reason I died.]
