Chapter 10: the academy

As they stepped through the academy's gates, Alex expected to see a grand, imposing structure, given its reputation as the number one academy in the kingdom. Instead, the buildings seemed almost quaint, with three modest structures surrounding a central courtyard. But as they took their first step inside, the view shifted dramatically. The humble exterior gave way to sleek, modern buildings that seemed to stretch on forever.

Lars's eyes widened in surprise, and he stumbled slightly, his gaze darting between the towering structures. Alex however, seemed unfazed, his expression calm and collected.

The din of conversation and laughter filled the air, mingling with the scent of freshly polished wood and the faint tang of magic. Alex's attention was soon hijacked by the sheer number of students milling about the hall. Some were accompanied by guardians, while others had maids in tow, all of them chatting, and laughing.

Alex's eyes grew wide as he took in the chaos. "Oh dude, fuck, why are there so many students here?" he exclaimed, his voice barely audible over the din.

Lars raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing on his lips. "Welcome to the academy, Your Highness

However, Alex hinted Lars to going somewhere a little quit

Lars and Alex stood in the corner of the hall, waiting for the speech to begin. Seven teachers were present on the stage, but Alex's gaze wandered, searching for something more interesting. That's when he noticed two girls staring at him intently.

The first girl had striking purple hair, a petite frame, and piercing eyes that sparkled with curiosity. Her cute face and lively demeanour made her hard to ignore. The second girl, on the other hand, exuded an aura of innocence and beauty, with silver hair that cascaded down her back like a river of moonlight. Alex felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity as if he had seen her somewhere before.

What caught Alex's attention, however, was a fragile-looking boy who stood nearby, trembling with fear. His eyes darted anxiously around the hall as if he expected something terrible to happen at any moment.

"Lars, look at that kid," Alex whispered, nodding discreetly towards the boy. "What's wrong with him?"

Lars followed Alex's gaze and his expression turned somber. "That's the last surviving member of the Norks family," he explained quietly. "They were renowned for their mastery of shadow magic, but their entire family was slaughtered by demons. He's the only one left.

Lars do you know what makes a weak human greater than a strong one

I don't know sir,

Alex said their paths weak has only two paths he will become something horrible out of jealousy or he will give his 100% cent to become a human who can kill strong ones so in simple words they are good human shields for me and Alex took the step to that kid

"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you trembling so much? He asked concern etched on his face

The boy's eyes widened, and he took a step back, his voice barely audible. "S-sir, please...I just want to study. I don't want any trouble."

Alex's expression softened. "Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to be friends. What's your name?"

"A-Arthur Norks, sir," the boy stuttered, his eyes fixed on the floor.

Alex smiled warmly. "Nice to meet you, Arthur. I'm Alex Agniverta."

Arthur's gaze snapped up, and his face paled. "Agniverta? Are you...from the royal family, sir?"

Alex chuckled. "Yeah, but don't worry about it. I'm just a regular guy."

Arthur's trembling intensified, and he bowed deeply. "I'm sorry, sir. I'll disappear from your sight."

Alex placed a reassuring hand on Arthur's shoulder. "Hey, don't apologize. Just relax, okay? Let's focus on the speech."

The speech began, and the teacher's voice echoed through the hall. "Dear students of Oxid Academy, I know you're confused about why you haven't been allowed to go to your dorms yet. But let me explain. We have three tests prepared for you. First, you'll engage in a sparring match with your seniors. It will be in a week Second, you'll raid a dungeon as a team. At the end of this month And third, we'll administer the Color Test of Mana right here to determine if you've awakened or not.

The students exchanged worried glances, unsure about what to expect. However, the teacher reassured them, "Don't worry, these tests aren't for admission purposes. They're designed to assess your talents and potential. While hard work can improve your abilities, there's a limit to how far it can take you."

Alex sighed inwardly, thinking, _Typical teachers. What do they know about hard work?_ He recalled a person from his past life who became incredibly powerful despite being told he had no talent.

Just as Alex was lost in thought, the teacher's voice boomed, "Alex Agniverta, you're exempt from the Color Test. You may proceed to your dorms."

The entire hall turned to stare at Alex, and he felt his face heat up. "What the...?" he muttered, wondering what had just happened.

Alex's face burned with annoyance. "What's that old man Carlas' did ?" he muttered.

As the news of Alex's exemption from the Color Test spread, the students' indifference turned into a flurry of whispers.

"Somebody said he's from the royal family," one student whispered, eyes widening with intrigue.

"Weak as hell, if you ask me," another student sneered. "No way he'd survive the test."

"I bet he used his family's influence to get out of it," a third student speculated, voice laced with envy.

Someone whispered he is not even one per cent of his big brother

Lars chuckled. "Let's just get out of here, sir Alex. This drama isn't worth our time."

Alex nodded, and they hastily made their way to the dorms. "Forget the academy's tests. I don't need their validation."

As they departed, the other students began their Color Tests, the hall filling with murmurs of excitement and nervousness. Meanwhile, Alex and Lars disappeared into the crowd.

The whispers swirled around Alex, who was already gone, oblivious to the rumours and speculation surrounding his name.

Alex and Lars stopped by the reception hall to collect Alex's dorm room number and keys. With their keys in hand, they made their way to their rooms.

The dorms were located in the second and third building of the academy, separate from the students' school building. The academy's layout was straightforward: the first building housed the students' external classrooms and halls for magic training and spars, the second building contained dorms for teachers and one guardian or the maids of the students, and the third building was exclusively for students dorms and fourth building separated with other buildings for only school and classes of students.

Alex entered his room, pleased to find that his room was spacious and well-furnished. Although Lars being his maid had a separate room adjacent to Alex.

Meanwhile

In the meeting hall, a modest room with 8 chairs arranged in two rows, the teachers of the academy gathered. At the center, a large chair held the imposing figure of Principal Carlas.

Teacher One spoke up, "This year, we have only four awakened students. The numbers are decreasing every year."

Teacher Two countered, "Not everyone needs to be awakened. It's not a necessity."

Teacher Three nodded in agreement, "Teacher Two is right."

The room erupted into murmurs, but Principal Carlas slammed his hand on the table, silencing them. "Are you even teachers? Discuss how to guide these students, not whether they should be awakened!"

Teacher One cleared his throat. "Yes, sir. We have two students from notable backgrounds: one from the merchant family of Veils Town and another from the another merchant family. And then there's the orphan of nork family."

Teacher Eight spoke up, "Is that the kid whose family was...?"

Principal Carlas nodded. "And the fourth student is Alex Agniverta."

The room fell silent, with teachers exchanging skeptical glances.

Teacher Eight whispered, "But rumors said he was a fragile boy with no magic."

Principal Carlas smiled. "I've personally tested Alex Agniverta. His talents surpass those of humanity."

The teachers looked stunned.

Teacher Two ventured, "But, sir, isn't it said that only Majesty the King has the rare Uxils affinity?"

Principal Carlas leaned forward, a hint of excitement in his voice. "What if I told you Alex Agniverta has not one, not two, but five gods' affinity?"

The room erupted into gasps, with teachers staring at each other in awe.
