Chapter 12
Skills Finally…
[Quest: Satisfy the prisoners’ sexual desires. 14/30]
‘It’s going smoothly.’
Shi-hyun sat comfortably in the duty room after turning the photos in all the rooms he was supposed to check.
The quest numbers were rising rapidly. He had already completed almost half.
It seemed like it was progressing simultaneously in several rooms.
At this rate, he thought he could finish by the time he returned from lunch.
“This guard, hurry and go to lunch.”
Returning, Supervisor Park Young-hwan seemed completely unaware of what was happening.
It appeared the inmates were cleverly handling things.
Shi-hyun smiled inwardly and left the duty room.
After lunch, he sat in the break room as usual, holding the phone that he had taken out from storage.
Originally, bringing a phone inside the main gate was strictly prohibited.
As a result there were many inconveniences.
Young guards complained about losing contact with their girlfriends, and those with families expressed frustrations about maintaining even the minimum human relationships.
As the complaints piled up, the correctional headquarters eventually relented.
So a few years ago, they allowed the use of phones inside the break room.
‘Missed call?’
The number was Eunhye’s.
Curious about what it was, Shi-hyun called back.
Yes, oppa.
After a few rings, Eunhye answered.
“Hey, Eunhye. I was just calling.”
Oh, about that. This Saturday, there’s a joint raid scheduled for a D-grade gate. Their guild has 8 members, and it’s just Min-jun Oppa and me from our side.
“Really?”
Yes, but… Min-jun Oppa suddenly has an urgent matter. His mother collapsed at home.
“Oh no…”
Fortunately, it’s not a serious illness, but it’s still not appropriate to raid in this situation.
“Of course.”
So we need someone to fill in, and the role they want is someone who can engage in close combat and draw aggro. It can only be either Min-jun Oppa or you from our guild. That’s why I’m contacting you.
“Hmm, I see. I’ll participate. No matter the circumstances, suddenly backing out of a joint raid would reflect poorly on them.”
Thank you so much, oppa. I’ll send you the map via text.
“Not a big deal. Have a nice day.”
Yes, you too. See you then.
After hanging up, Shi-hyun had a contemplative expression.
Min-jun’s situation felt personal.
He thought he should visit his parents in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, during this holiday.
Since his father retired, they had moved to the countryside to farm, and it had been a long time since he visited due to the distance.
Lost in thought, time passed quickly.
As he was heading back to the duty room, a message popped up.
[Quest: Satisfy the prisoners’ sexual desires. 30/30 completed]
[Poahim is genuinely satisfied with how quickly you satisfied the prisoners’ sexual desires].
[Wisdom +50, Mental Strength +90 restored]
[Mental strength has exceeded a certain threshold, activating the passive skill ‘Experienced Guard’s Insight.’]
His magical power, however, did not increase.
But an unexpected notification surprised Shi-hyun.
“Huh?”
A skill?
Finally a skill?
He had been living as a practically skillless hunter with only three skills that were all inactive for quite a while.
But finally, that skill had appeared.
Curious, Shi-hyun stopped walking and opened his status window.
Strength 101 (D)
Agility 101 (D)
Wisdom 160 (D)
Stamina 101 (D)
Mental Strength 300 (C)
Magical Power 99 (E)
Physical Resistance: 5.05% Magic Resistance 15% Poison Resistance: 0% Fire Resistance 0%
Passive: Experienced Guard’s Insight Active:??? (Inactive),???
(Inactive)
One skill name had happily appeared in the skill window.
It seemed that as his mental strength rose to 300, reaching C-rank, the conditions had been met for activation.
What could this skill be? Unable to contain his curiosity, Shi-hyun immediately called for a detailed explanation.
“….”
What is this?
He had no idea what it meant or how to use it.
It was a complete mystery.
“Is it a good thing or a bad thing?”
Of course he couldn’t know.
There are passive skills that raise stats and resistances, which are fairly intuitive and don’t require questioning.
Shi-hyun read the explanation carefully once more.
First of all, if it was the Reiter continent, it must be another world?
So it meant he could sense and read information about notorious humans in that other world?
He understood roughly, but he had no idea how to use this.
… One thing was certain: this skill couldn’t be used on monsters.
Shi-hyun made a face of dismay.
It seemed that this guy’s power wouldn’t be much help in raiding gates.

“Attention in all rooms! Inspection preparation for 5th floor, Room 2 is complete!”
The afternoon inspection began.
The balding chief guard started inspecting from Room 1.
“Room 1!”
As Supervisor Park Young-hwan called out the room name, the inmates, sitting in a neat row for easy counting, shouted.
“Attention, salute! Good afternoon!
One!
Two!
Three!
Four!
Five!
End of numbers!”
Usually, such a loud response was rare in the duty room.
So the chief guard felt pleased every time he inspected the 5th floor, Room 2.
The inspection proceeded smoothly, and soon it was Room 14.
There, the chief guard paused for a moment.
“Why does it look like everyone here is in such a good mood?”
With the keen observation of a seasoned guard nearing retirement, he sensed some satisfaction in the inmates’ expressions.
“Not at all!”
The inmates’ faces suddenly stiffened.
‘If we get caught, we’re done!’
Inmates were often more aware than guards when it came to the consequences of returning to prison.
They already knew about the orders given by the security chief and that Shi-hyun had handed over inappropriate photos. Of course, the images had been torn up and shared, so there was no risk of being caught, but being human, they still felt a twinge of anxiety.
The thought of Shi-hyun writing an incident report, if caught, was something they didn’t want to imagine.
‘Damn… Does it smell like night flowers?’
Though the prisoners were tense, the chief guard just chuckled and moved on.
Then it was Room 15.
The atmosphere here was completely different.
The inmates were properly managing their expressions, listening to the sounds from the adjacent room.
“What’s going on? Did everyone here lose their parents?”
The chief guard said with a bewildered expression.
The expressions were opposites in the two adjacent rooms.
“Not at all!”
“Just relax; it makes me anxious to see you all so stiff.”
The chief guard said as he passed.
Normally, he would inspect the common area and point out any unsatisfactory conditions, but that was not the case for the 5th floor, Room 2.
Thus, there was nothing in particular to worry about during the inspection.
The inspection continued smoothly.
Finally, after confirming the total number of inmates, the chief guard said,
“Are you all coming today?”
“Oh, of course, chief.”
Today was the day they had decided to hold a gathering for the chief guard, who had less than a month until retirement.
“This guard too?”
“If this guard doesn’t go, I’ll drag him along. Don’t worry.”
“Haha, see you later.”
The chief guard smiled warmly and went out the opposite door.
“What did you talk about?”
Shi-hyun, who had been standing in front of the duty room during the inspection, asked.
“He told me to make sure to bring you to the gathering.”
“Oh, even though I don’t like gatherings because of the drinking, I have to go this time for sure.”
It wouldn’t make sense to not go after working for two years in the same prison.
“Oh, but where did he say the place was?”
“The duck restaurant we went to last time.”
