Chapter 173: Chapter 173 Curse of the Uchiha
"It's over." As Itachi walked out of the Naka Shrine, both his tone and the aura surrounding him grew colder and more murderous than ever before.
Minato and Uchiha Shisui observed this transformation. Minato and Tsunade'e anbu had activated the Prison of the Four Violet Flames Formation and Shishui used Wood Style supporting the array.
"Now, I only need to play my last part as the shinobi of Konoha and as a Uchiha. Shisui, Lord Fifth Hokage, leave the rest to me," Itachi said, his expression calm, but a trace of sadness lingered in his eyes, a single tear threatening to fall.
"Also, Lord Fifth Hokage, this is something my father asked me to give you."
With those words, Itachi handed a scroll to Minato. Minato's face softened, conflicted as he took the scroll from Itachi. Uchiha Shisui, with a tight-lipped expression, patted Itachi's shoulder twice before turning and walking away.
They both knew this might be the last time they would meet.
Once they were gone, Itachi took a deep breath, steeling himself. He knew he had one final task to complete before he left. He would have to perform the last act of his role.
...
...
The two hundred Uchiha radicals each had their family members.
As time passed and night fell, the families in the Uchiha district grew concerned. Fathers, husbands, sons—many had gone to Naka Shrine for a meeting but had not returned. One by one, they began to walk out from their homes, heading toward the shrine. Among them were Uchiha Mikoto, the wife of the clan leader, and Uchiha Sasuke, his second son.
On the streets of Konoha, groups of Uchiha women and children made their way together toward the outskirts of the village. The full moon above them had an eerie, blood-red glow.
"What a strong smell of blood..." Mikoto murmured, her senses sharp from years as a ninja. Leading the group of Uchiha women and children, she approached the gate of Naka Shrine, only to be taken aback by the overwhelming scent of blood emanating from within. An ominous premonition crept into her mind.
With a soft creak, the shrine's gate slowly opened. From within, a young boy—no older than fourteen—emerged. In his hand, he gripped a shinobi tanto, its edge glowing a sinister red in the moonlight.
"Nissan..." Sasuke whispered, instinctively stepping forward. Normally, he would have rushed into his brother's arms without hesitation, but the sheer, terrifying aura radiating from his older brother left him frozen in place, speechless.
The same was true for the other women.
"Itachi..." Uchiha Mikoto's voice broke the silence. She stepped forward, holding Sasuke with one hand, her other hand reaching out toward her son with a worried frown. "What happened... to your father?"
Uchiha Itachi's expression remained cold as he slowly closed his eyes. After several seconds of silence, he suddenly opened them, revealing his Mangekyō Sharingan. The three-tomoe pattern in his eyes twisted into a triangular dart shape.
In an instant, the world around them was bathed in a blood-red hue. The women and children who stood nearby were overwhelmed by the sudden shift. They were plunged into the terrifying reality of what Itachi had done.
Within the Naka Shrine, Uchiha Fugaku, the clan patriarch, was in the midst of a discussion with two hundred of his fellow Uchiha. At that moment, a teenager—Itachi—rushed into the room. His eyes were filled with ruthless determination, and without hesitation, he swung his shinobi sword, cutting down his clanmates. The cries of mercy from the people inside filled the air, but they were quickly silenced as their lives were taken.
Among them was his father, Uchiha Fugaku. Though it was an illusion created by Tsukuyomi, where time and space were manipulated, the scene was vividly real for those witnessing it. The trauma of watching the massacre unfold before them—especially knowing it was a vision created by Itachi—was indescribable.
Sasuke was the first to collapse, unable to hold it in. He fell to his knees, retching uncontrollably.
The other family members were equally devastated. Many collapsed to the ground, some even losing consciousness from the sheer emotional strain. Despite bearing the Uchiha name, most of them were not warriors. They were simple women, children, and civilians—people with no fighting ability, only the weight of their family ties.
The illusion may have been a mere vision, but the impact it had on them was all too real.
"Itachi... Could it be that... you did this to them...?" Miyako Uchiha gasped, her voice trembling.
"How is this possible? Itachi, why did you...?" Izumi whispered, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"My god, Itachi... you..." Uchiha Mikoto stammered, unable to process what she was witnessing.
The Uchiha women and children, still barely conscious, stared at Itachi in utter disbelief. The boy they had once known as polite, a proud member of the Uchiha clan, had committed such an unimaginable atrocity.
"Impossible! Nissan would never do something like this!" Sasuke shouted, his voice cracking with anguish. His hands clenched tightly into fists. "Nissan, please, speak to me!"
Itachi remained silent for a few moments, his gaze cold and distant. Finally, his voice broke the silence, quiet but sharp. "What a foolish brother..."
After another brief pause, Itachi continued his words carrying a heavy weight. "In the Naka Shrine, beneath the next to last tatami mat, there is an ancient secret stone monument left to the Uchiha clan by the Sage of Six Paths. It holds the secrets of the Uchiha clan—the history of the Sharingan and the method for awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan."
"That method is..." he continued, his voice a chilling whisper. "To kill the person you love the most."
The triangular dart in Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan seemed to expand, its gaze piercing and cold.
"Kill the one you love the most..." Mikoto whispered, her face drained of color as the horror of his words sank in. "Itachi, is this why...?"
"It is," Itachi confirmed, his tone icy. "This was the only way for me to awaken these eyes."
He looked at them, his gaze filled with disdain. "My goal has been achieved. I have no hope left for this wretched clan."
Sasuke's heart shattered at the revelation. "Why are you lying Nii-chan!" he screamed, his rage consuming him. He charged toward Itachi, his fists raised, ready to fight.
"No, Sasuke! Stop!" Mikoto cried, rushing forward to stop him, but it was too late.
Sasuke, blinded by anger, threw himself at Itachi. But Itachi remained unmoved. Without even looking at his brother, he effortlessly dodged the attack. With a single, fluid motion, he kicked Sasuke in the chest, sending him crashing into the trunk of a large tree.
"Foolish little brother..." Itachi muttered coldly, his voice echoing the harshness of his words. "If you want to kill me, if you hate me, then live. Live forever, clinging to your life, and come back when you have the same eyes as mine. Only then will your existence have any meaning."
Though Itachi had originally planned for Shisui to end his life in the future, he found it acceptable for Sasuke to take that role. Whether it was Shisui or Sasuke, as long as one of them could end his life as a sinner, Itachi believed that his death would eventually restore the Uchiha clan's glory and bring them back to Konoha.
