Harry Potter : The White Wizard of Hogwarts

Chapter 10: 10. Picky Guests

"Ahem."

Hermione felt confused by the shocked expressions of the two people. "Sorry, do you mean Ivan is a descendant of Merlin?"

Who is Merlin? I suppose anyone from England knows. He is a legendary figure who always comes up in stories about King Arthur.

Thinking carefully, Ivan does indeed have a strong ability to predict things and acts like a prophet.

"But Ivan doesn't seem to have the ability to change into someone else."

Hermione wasn't jealous of Ivan; she just wanted her friend to do well. However, the title of "eternal descendant" sounded very troublesome. She didn't want Ivan to be in danger.

"Well, according to what I saw in the bookstore just now, I should still be a natural Transfiguration Magus."

After Ivan said this, he transformed into Hermione, Professor McGonagall, and Ollivander right in front of them.

The whole process was so quick and smooth that the three people watching were left stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief.

"This is the first time I've seen such a transformation."

Professor McGonagall had encountered Transfiguration Magus before, but those magicians could only change their appearance to a limited degree.

However, Ivan could change his entire body, voice, and even fine details.

If she hadn't seen it herself, Professor McGonagall would have thought he had secretly taken a Polyjuice Potion beforehand.

"Amazing magic."

Ollivander felt honored to witness the abilities of a descendant of Merlin. He trembled a bit and reached out to shake hands with Ivan. "Welcome back, great Ambrosius."

Ivan didn't have much experience with this. His bloodline from Merlin was a gift from the system when he traveled through time. Before today, he didn't even know what the surname Ambrosius meant in the magical world.

"Oh, sorry, I'm just really excited."

Ollivander's fingers shook as he began to search for a wand suitable for Ivan. "Now, let me see which wand is honored to serve you."

Given that Ivan was considered a legendary figure in the magical world, Ollivander referred to the process of choosing a wand as "serving." This showed how restless he felt at that moment.

A partner?

Please, what a privilege it is to be Merlin's knight!

It's an honor for a wand to fight alongside the greatest wizard!

If you didn't want to serve, there would still be wands. If you did want to serve, Ollivander's shop had plenty of options!

"Let's try this one first."

Ollivander handed Ivan a wand. "This is an elm wand with thunderbird tail feathers, nine and a half inches long. Elm wands are usually chosen by people who are graceful, have great magical talent, and possess an innate noble temperament."

Ollivander explained, "Its core comes from a very powerful adult thunderbird. Although wands with thunderbird tail feathers can be challenging to master, they usually have great power and are especially valuable to masters of Transfiguration."

Different materials have different qualities; just like how lightning wood can vary in age, there's also a difference in the quality of elm wood.

The wand Ollivander offered was his masterpiece. The elm and thunderbird feathers used were the finest of their kinds. Its value had long surpassed 7 Galleons.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it was priceless.

"Buzz~~"

As Ivan held the wand, he felt a strange magical wave coming from it.

When he waved it, he found that the flow of magic within him felt remarkably easier. "I feel like my magic has suddenly become ten times lighter."

"…"

However, just when Ivan thought he had found the perfect wand, Ollivander shook his head. "No, not this one."

The old man looked very disappointed, as if his craftsmanship had not met the customer's expectations.

"Why?" Ivan asked in confusion as Ollivander turned to look for another wand.

Ollivander explained that this wand had not truly chosen him; it simply felt overwhelmed by Ivan's powerful magic.

Although Ollivander aimed to select a loyal companion for Ivan, he couldn't just pick any wand.

If Ivan were a king, then the wand should be a loyal advisor, not just one that flatters him.

The elm wand was too submissive. Its so-called "service" was merely to please its master—a clear sign of disloyalty.

Of course, this didn't mean the elm wand wasn't good. Ollivander had faith in the quality of his own wands. However, he couldn't ignore how embarrassed he felt about this one.

"Choosing a wand is not just about giving the best one to someone," he reminded himself, thinking about his family's guiding principle in wand-making: "The most suitable wand is the best one."

This meant that if his choice wasn't good enough, he could only blame himself.

"This wand is my father's last work and his most prized creation," Ollivander said as he picked out another wand with a black body and a silver-white handle. "The wand body is made of ebony, which is well-known for its impressive looks and performance.

These wands are very effective for all types of offensive magic and Transfiguration. Ebony wands are usually chosen by those who have the courage to be themselves.

They don't follow the crowd, are independent, and prefer to remain outsiders."

Additionally, the handle of this wand was made from fairy mithril, a very valuable alchemical material in the wizarding world.

Ollivander's willingness to show it to Ivan was a sign of great respect. "The wand core comes from the tail feathers of a phoenix. Wands made from this material are the most selective and hardest to tame.

Go ahead, give it a try."

As Ivan held the wand, he immediately felt excitement radiating from it.

If the previous wand had made his spellcasting ten times smoother and easier, this one felt at least twenty times better!

This increase didn't mean his power had grown twentyfold.

Ivan had the talent for wandless casting, but any feeling of blockage would significantly affect his control and speed.

With this wand, Ivan could easily cast spells he previously struggled with.

For example, if casting the Luminescent Spell had a difficulty level of 1, then casting the Armor Bodyguard would be 5, and perfectly casting a controllable Fiery Spell would be 20.

Ivan's wandless casting ability was only about 2.

This meant he couldn't overcome the magical blockage and cast the Armor Bodyguard without a wand.

In the Harry Potter world, wizards don't really have a concept of "magic value."

To Ivan, magic in this world didn't feel like energy-driven power; instead, it was more like using one's magical ability to adjust the rules and achieve their goals.

Theoretically, as long as a wizard focused enough, they could cast spells continuously for a whole day.

Of course, mental fatigue would set in.

Even if people do nothing, they still get extremely sleepy at night—imagine how tired they would feel after casting spells like doing homework!
