Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 465: Chapter 465: High Elf Priest

The results of recruiting volunteers among the Farstriders left Alaric extremely satisfied.

Over a thousand high elf rangers had joined Alleria's command, voluntarily enlisting to fight against the orcs.

This number far exceeded the high elves' reinforcements for humans in the original story, accounting for half of the Farstrider forces.

Although this was a small number compared to human armies, it was significant considering the relatively low population of high elves.

These reinforcements demonstrated their sincerity.

Furthermore, in terms of average quality, this group of high elf rangers far surpassed ordinary troops, capable of providing firepower on the battlefield equivalent to ten times their number of human archers.

In fact, many more rangers were willing to join the alliance.

However, considering Quel'Thalas's defenses and the Windrunner family's stance, Alleria ultimately refrained from bringing more rangers.

That said, the high elf reinforcements didn't end there.

While Alaric and Alleria were not permitted to recruit volunteers from the eight great legions or elite units like the Spellbreakers, there was another group in Quel'Thalas that could aid the alliance in its war efforts: the priests.

Unlike humans, who almost universally worshipped the Holy Light, high elves, despite their long lifespans and ancient history, lacked a clear faith.

Instead, they worshipped magic and the Sunwell. The concept of belief in a god or deity was not popular among them.

Of course, this hadn't always been the case. In ancient times, when high elves were the upper nobility of the night elves, they, like their kin, worshipped the moon goddess Elune.

However, their devotion weakened as their fascination with magic deepened—after all, most who delve into magic seldom hold strong religious beliefs.

After being exiled from the night elves, these self-proclaimed high elves abandoned their faith in Elune altogether, turning wholeheartedly to magic.

Nevertheless, as they interacted more with humans, some of their culture seeped into high elf society, including the faith in the Holy Light.

While the faith was still rare in magical cities like Silvermoon, it was gradually spreading among commoners in rural high elf villages, giving rise to churches and priests of the Holy Light.

Although these priests had limited influence in high elf society, their emergence marked a new cultural element.

And precisely because of their relatively low status, they became ideal candidates for volunteer recruitment.

Thus, under Alleria's guidance, Alaric traveled across nearly every village in Quel'Thalas, visiting every high elf church and extending invitations to their priests.

It must be said that believers in magical worlds differed significantly from those in the mundane one.

Here, faith brought tangible power. Believers' conviction translated into supernatural strength, and priests could only exist as genuine adherents of their faith.

The Holy Light responded solely to true believers, meaning that all priests genuinely adhered to its tenets, helping those in need.

Because of this, many priests readily accepted Alaric's request, especially since he carried an official decree from the Sunstrider royal court. They eagerly joined his cause.

Of course, not everyone agreed. Some declined not out of unwillingness to aid humans but because someone had to remain behind to tend to the churches and assist their kin.

Others had different reasons altogether.

One such case was Vandellor, a renowned high priest among the high elves.

His abilities rivaled even Archbishop Faol's, and his long lifespan only deepened his connection to the Holy Light.

Alleria repeatedly recommended this elder priest to Alaric. Eventually, under her guidance, Alaric visited Vandellor's church.

However, Vandellor's response was unexpected—someone else refused on his behalf.

At the church, Alaric encountered not only Vandellor but also an elderly female archmage named Biloha.

When Alaric proposed that Vandellor join the volunteer corps as the leader of the high elf priests, supporting the Alliance on the battlefield, the elder priest agreed without hesitation.

For him, aiding those in need was second nature, especially when it came to defending Azeroth.

But Biloha interrupted, her fiery tone contrasting sharply with her advanced age.

"Join the volunteer corps? Support the Alliance? What nonsense is this?" Biloha scolded. "You're old, Vandellor.

You've only got a few hundred years left before you're six feet under. Why are you running off to fight wars? Haven't you had enough fighting trolls back in the day?

Haven't you faced enough dangers? If it weren't for me saving your skin back then, you'd have died young. And now? Have you forgotten those lessons in your old age?"

Her relentless tirade left Vandellor speechless, shaking his head helplessly.

Alaric understood: her words weren't just directed at Vandellor but also at him.

And admittedly, Biloha had a point. Even for classes like priests and mages, age eventually took its toll.

On one hand, spellcasters often grew stronger with age, mastering more magic or deepening their faith.

On the other hand, aging reduced stamina and resilience, and the battlefield's chaos posed risks even for the most powerful.

Agility and quick reflexes mattered, and the elderly had their limitations.

After hearing Biloha's argument, Alaric abandoned the idea of recruiting Vandellor.

As expected, the elder priest declined.

"Apologies for wasting your time," Vandellor said regretfully. "Though I truly wish to aid you in combating the orcs and healing the wounded, I must decline. After all…"

He glanced at Biloha, giving Alaric a knowing look.

Well, the old man had a sense of humor.

Just as Alaric prepared to leave, Vandellor called him back.
