Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 421: Chapter 421: Temporary Victory

When Kil'rog saw this scene through the magical eye, he understood that this siege mission was absolutely impossible to complete.

No, saying it was impossible was just self-comfort. In reality, he had already begun to consider how to ensure his army could retreat safely.

Because this was destined to be a great defeat.

Compared to humans, orcs were stronger and more bloodthirsty in battle, but conversely, they were also more irrational and harder to control.

In other words, while orcs possessed stronger individual combat abilities, they were weaker than humans in terms of order and organization—especially orcs who had consumed demon blood.

The chaotic and evil side of demonic energy had unknowingly transformed this race.

This trait made them fervent in battle, but also rendered them incapable of being organized effectively in the face of chaos.

Compared to human armies, the chaos caused by a sudden assault had a far greater impact on the orc forces.

The only way to alleviate this situation and save more members of the clan was to have reinforcement inserted into the battlefield, to hold back the human cavalry while organizing the chaotic orcs.

After all, in such surprise attacks, the most damaging factor for the attack was often not the attackers, but the chaos among the attacked themselves.

The appearance of reinforcements could at least gather the scattered soldiers, giving them orders to follow and units to rally behind, thus preventing a total loss of combat effectiveness.

However, would Gul'dan agree to such a self-destructive act?

Supporting Kil'rog meant that his own Twilight's Hammer would have to face the enemy cavalry, even risk being caught in a pincer movement, just to allow Kil'rog's Bleeding Hollow Clan to take a few casualties.

But what did Kil'rog's subordinates have to do with him, Gul'dan?

To compete with Gul'dan for power and profit, Kil'rog had just used Gul'dan and his Twilight's Hammer as cannon fodder for the siege; now asking Gul'dan to set aside past grudges for the benefit of the entire orc clan was simply impossible!

With this thought, Gul'dan resolved to remain passive, at least waiting until Kil'rog sent reinforcements before taking action.

By then, they could delay a little longer, and the Bleeding Hollow Clan would be in dire straits.

Just as he was contemplating this, suddenly, a "squeaking" sound of friction and machinery came from afar.

The gates of Stormwind slowly opened.

Led by King Llane, the human guards in Stormwind surged out. Now, they were no longer relying on the walls for defense but actively took the initiative to fight the orcs head-on.

Their purpose was to cooperate with the cavalry behind the orcs, preventing them from regrouping and holding back the besieging orcs.

Certainly, the combat power of the humans was not as strong as that of these robust orcs, but for the sake of Stormwind, for the sake of their comrades to successfully complete the mission, these guards of Stormwind bravely stood out, risking their lives to stop the orcs from regrouping.

In an instant, the area below the city was engulfed in blood and chaos.

The orcs, eager for a direct confrontation, were more than willing to fight to the death, which was much more thrilling and easier than laying siege.

The humans, despite heavy casualties, would not retreat, leading to a stalemate below the city.

Until the scattered orc troops from the main camp finally arrived on the battlefield.

Orc discipline was not very strict, and soon, news of the attack on the main camp spread, accompanied by various rumors—Kil'rog was dead, the rear forces were annihilated, and hundreds of thousands of troops were coming from behind… there were all kinds of rumors.

Even the orcs on the battlefield began to waver.

Their stronghold had been breached; how could they continue fighting?

The situation instantly reversed. The orcs, disheartened, began to flee, while the weary humans finally saw a glimmer of hope and started a massive pursuit.

Seeing this, Gul'dan took the opportunity to retreat with the remnants of the Twilight's Hammer.

Once their commander withdrew, the chaos on the battlefield escalated further, and both the Twilight's Hammer and Bleeding Hollow Clan orcs began to rout.

Their retreat quickly spread to the main camp, meaning the camp also received the news of total collapse on the battlefield.

Now, the camp, which had just organized resistance, became even more chaotic.

As both sides descended into further disorder, even Kil'rog himself could no longer organize much of a force; he could only break through with his personal guards and escape first before regrouping his men.

Thus, the remaining hours of that night turned into a time of complete rout for the orcs.

Two orc tribes were suddenly lost, as if everywhere was an enemy and every corner held an ambush.

Everyone resented their parents for not giving them two extra legs, just seeking to escape with their lives.

The rout continued throughout the night, with the pursuit relentless.

By the next morning, most of the orcs had fled into Elwynn Forest, and Lothar began to regroup his forces and return to Stormwind.

However, there were still small cavalry squads searching for any remaining orc soldiers near Stormwind.

As Lothar led the cavalry back to Stormwind, they were met with a warm welcome.

Along with them were King Llane and the guards of Stormwind.

After a night of battle, all the soldiers had suffered heavy casualties, even the cavalry.

In the orc camp, Kil'rog had indeed inflicted some hardships on them.

Now, they looked so disheveled, battered and bruised, with many needing the support of their comrades to move. Their armor was marked with scratches and dents from heavy blows.

All these were marks of their experience in a night of fierce combat.

But the most exhilarating thing was their spoils of war.

The huge orc heads were terrifying, with people able to clearly see the orcs' bulging eyes and sharp fangs that seemed capable of tearing a person apart in one bite, as well as their savage ornaments made from teeth.

They also saw numerous orc axes and warhammers, the corpses of wolves, orc banners, and much more.

These spoils of war clearly indicated that they had experienced a great victory the previous night.

Cheers erupted among the watching crowd.

"Long live the King!"

"Long live General Lothar!"

"Well done!"

"Stormwind is finally safe!"

"We have won!"

The cheers of the common people resounded throughout the city, with everyone seemingly celebrating as if it were a festival, and many even shed tears of joy.

The King and the generals were, of course, very happy, but at the same time, they felt heavy-hearted because too many had sacrificed for this victory, and the cost of this victory was indeed quite heavy.

Amidst the people's admiration and cheers, the victors of the war entered the castle.

They knew this victory was only temporary; the war was far from over.
