Chapter 93: Dark Lord’s Reemployment
"Creak."
While they were chatting, a handsome (?) blond man pushed open the door and walked in, followed by his son.
"I didn't expect Mr. Borgin's business to be so good today," Lucius Malfoy remarked lightly, giving Tver and his companion a glance. However, when he saw Marvolo, his eyes narrowed slightly.
Tver wasn't worried though; according to Marvolo, Lucius following him didn't happen until after 1972. Back then, he looked drastically different from his youth, having lost all his hair. So, Lucius was just curious about Marvolo's demeanor and quickly withdrew his gaze upon seeing him.
He almost called him "my lord" from seeing his back; he felt relieved in his heart.
Tver wasn't interested in staying here any longer. It didn't matter if Malfoy didn't recognize him; he was afraid Marvolo might say something inappropriate.
"I won't disturb you then, I'll come back at the end of the month." With a smile and a nod to Borgin, Tver left the shop with Marvolo, who was now staring straight at Lucius.
"I really don't understand why you always have to be so polite to these ants," Marvolo asked irritably as soon as they were out, "Apologizing to someone like Borgin."
"Let me give you a saying," Tver said calmly, "Treat friends with warmth like spring, treat enemies with coldness like winter. Even if it's pretense."
Marvolo was taken aback, wearing a pensive expression.
"So, am I a friend or an enemy?"
"Let's say you're a friend," Tver casually strolled through Knockturn Alley, "depending on what you do in the future."
Dark wizards always had to work harder than pure white wizards. Even in the morning, the relatively narrow alley was already crowded with early risers or wizards who had been up all night. However, Tver, dressed in bright attire, stood out among them. Even Marvolo looked more like a survivalist wizard here.
"As a friend, let me remind you, we're being watched." Marvolo glared at an old witch, and they exchanged stares.
"They've been around for a week," Tver continued to stroll leisurely, turning to the old witch with a smile, "Isn't that right, madam?"
The old witch's stiff eyes twitched slightly, she lowered her head in silence and didn't follow them anymore.
"How come I didn't know?" Marvolo sneered, scanning the surroundings without hiding his disdain.
"Do you really think that cat's meowing was a coincidence? Or have you seen a stray cat that can survive in Knockturn Alley?"
Marvolo suddenly realized, "So, it seems I attracted them when I was adapting to the body using magic."
They wandered around for a while, the place gradually becoming deserted, with no shops or pedestrians in sight, except for those three suspicious figures.
The group showed no sign of leaving; on the contrary, realizing their purpose was exposed, they became even more unapologetic.
"It seems your kindness didn't work," Marvolo quipped.
"Then I'll leave it to you to be ruthless," Tver replied.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Tver's figure disappeared in an instant.
In that moment of Marvolo's bewilderment, three figures wearing tattered hoods suddenly Apparated around him, surrounding him.
They brandished their wands, pointing them at Marvolo.
"Surrender all your belongings, or you can let us search your corpse," the hooded man in front of him said coldly.
Only then did Marvolo come to his senses, angrily glaring at the roof of a nearby building.
"You bastard actually left these minions to me?!"
The three dark wizards stared blankly in the direction he indicated, finding it empty. Only then did they realize the minions meant them.
They angrily shouted, "Avada Kedavra!" *3
A dazzling green light flashed, but when they looked closely, there was no trace of Marvolo in the spot where he had been.
As they wondered, the ground suddenly flipped out three giant snakes, swallowing them whole.
After a series of cracking sounds and screams, the snakes transformed back into the floor, revealing three bodies drenched in blood, their bones almost entirely shattered and contorted beyond recognition.
Tver and Marvolo reappeared beside them, Tver looking disdainfully at the scene.
"You're really gross," he remarked.
"Without wands, this is how it goes," Marvolo waved his hand nonchalantly, "You have to deal with them quickly without making too much noise. This trick is the most convenient."
"Huh?"
Tver examined one of the bodies, the relatively intact one.
"This person's bone density is much greater than that of an ordinary person. Is he a half-blood?"
Some magical creatures could reproduce with humans, producing offspring with characteristics of both species, like Hagrid.
"No," Marvolo glanced over and immediately understood what was going on. "This is a werewolf. In their human form, besides their hair, bone density is the most obvious feature that distinguishes them."
Tver nodded in understanding. The biggest difference between him and seasoned wizards like Dumbledore and Voldemort was this miscellaneous experience. Given time, he could still identify this as a werewolf, but not as quickly as Marvolo.
He waved his wand, cleaning up the bodies.
In Knockturn Alley, the sudden disappearance of a few dark wizards for no apparent reason was quite normal.
Seeing Tver's contemplative expression, Marvolo asked in puzzlement, "What's wrong? Are you thinking of saving these werewolves?"
Tver shook his head, "I just thought of what kind of task to give you."
"So, you just now thought about resurrecting me, huh?" Marvolo quipped.
"I originally wanted you to go find Voldemort, but now, your task is to deal with these dark wizards," Tver replied.
"Hah," Marvolo chuckled, "You might as well make me an Auror."
Tver looked at him in surprise, "I actually did want you to become an Auror."
Feeling the sincerity in Tver's eyes, Marvolo now thought Tver was a lunatic, a crazier lunatic than himself. Making the Dark Lord become an Auror? Was this a plan a sane person would come up with?!
"Are you insane? Even if I wanted to, I couldn't fake a set of school grades or an identity that would pass scrutiny," Marvolo exclaimed.
Tver smiled as he explained, "Actually, you only need to control one Auror, then transform into his appearance. Naturally, you can openly appear in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and become a respected Auror."
After some explanation, Marvolo realized the possibility, and his restless heart gradually became excited.
"Are you sure Aurors nowadays are that easy to deceive? I was quite impressed by Moody back then," he remarked.
"Moody has retired. Now, the Ministry of Magic is filled with young Aurors," Tver assured him.
"Furthermore, Cynthia will mobilize an Auror in the name of the Cooperative Division. By then, with your cooperation, you can easily control that unlucky fellow."
"You two can support each other in the Ministry, and with your handling of dark wizards, your accomplishments will undoubtedly surpass everyone else's!"
Tver excitedly patted Marvolo's arm. Planning for the Dark Lord to become an Auror—was there anything more satisfying than this?
"But I can't take the Polyjuice Potion," Marvolo pointed out.
"So, for the next month, I'll teach you human transfiguration properly!" Tver declared with enthusiasm.
