Harry Potter / Highschool DxD : A deal with the devil

Chapter 13: Chapter 13 - Diagon Alley (2)

While Jon stood behind, Thomas, Irina, and their mothers walked into the closest tailoring shop. As soon as they walked inside, a woman greeted them from behind the counter.

"My, oh my. What can I do for you today?"

Before Kate could write down her words, Thomas walked towards the woman.

"Good morning, mam. We had come here so that I could get a robe that would grow with me. I that's possible, of course."

"What a polite young man. That's certainly possible, now, come here, let me measure you."

Not even a second after Madam Malkin spoke, tape, measures, pins, and scissors all flew over to her and she began taking Thomas's measures, not caring even one bit about how dumbfounded the mother and son duo were. Irina and Myra on the other hand were smiling at their friends, enjoying their first experience in the magical world. Normally it wouldn't have taken all that long to make a normal set of robes for school, but making clothes with various enchants was a complicated process that require both time and full concentration on the process. While the measuring didn't take more than an hour, Madam Malkin's still asked them to come back to pick up the clothes when they are done shopping. Before he left though, Thomas pulled the woman away and asked her if it would be possible to make a small compartment inside the robe for a pet to stay inside, nothing too big or extravagate, but big enough for Mars to reside while he's in class. Luckily, for Thomas, the woman knew exactly what he wanted and after she assured him that, everything would be done by the time they return, after Kate paid in advance half of the sum, Thomas alongside his mother, Irina, and her mother left the tailor shop.

The next stop was at the apothecary, a place Thomas dreamed of going to ever since he got his magical powers. Why would one ask? Well, the truth was that he wanted to start learning how to brew potions so that he could help his family and friends, and at the same time help his father with some of the animals back at the zoo.

Thought once they walked inside the apothecary, Thomas's expression changed. As soon as they walked inside, they were welcomed by a disgusting smell, almost as if this was a test for the brave rather than a shop. Because of the smell, Kate, Irina, and Myra choose to stay outside, letting Thomas go inside by himself, mostly because he was the one who needed things from there. For some bizarre reason, everything look strange, almost too strange in his opinion, but despite that, Thomas walked towards the counter where the owner was waiting. On every shelf, there were jars with various things that only made Thomas frown at how bad everything looked and smelled, but taking a closer look behind the shopkeeper, his eyes start to shine seeing those better-looking jars and ingredients.

"It seems you aren't a blood ass like most of the people that came here. So what caught your attention? Now that I look closer at you, aren't you quite young to attend Hogwarts?"

"I'm Nine years old, sir. However, I want to practice before I start attending Hogwarts."

"Now that's how a proper alchemist should think. So tell me, lad, what can I do for you?"

"Can I get the supplies the first years need, alongside a book about the most common potions?"

"Once again you impress me, then again, as I said before you are not part of any of the pure blood and that makes you smarter than them by a long shot. Since you have impressed me, I'll throw a discount, so with the cauldron, the ingredients, the tools, and two recipe books would bring the total to fifteen gallons, and with the discount, the total would be eleven gallons."

"Thank you, sir."

"Pleasure doing business with you lad. I really hope you would learn how to become a proper alchemist in the future."

After he got all of the things from the shopkeeper, Thomas left the apothecary with a smile on his face, after all, he could now start brewing potions which from what Mars told him might just be the best thing after mastering wandless casting. Once he regrouped with his group, they made their way towards a place named Flourish and Blotts where Thomas bought all of the books a first year might need alongside a few other books that normally no wizard or witch at the start of their training would bother taking a look at. Before leaving the store thought, Thomas asked the store owner if it would be possible to buy books using the owls, and to his surprise, the woman agreed, thought he would need to buy at least two books otherwise she would be at a loss.

Finding the pet store was easier said than done, but after asking a couple of witches, they quickly found the shop. Though none of the would have thought that such an import shop would be placed in the northeast region of Diagon Alley, away from the main square where most of the shops were located. From what Kate and Thomas found out, buying an owl was mandatory since that would be the only mean of communication between Thomas and his family, as well as Irina once he start attending Hogwarts. From the tens of owls put out for sale, Thomas ended up buying one of the few expensive Eurasian Eagle Owls, one of the biggest owls that the pet shop had for sale. As for why? Simply because he felt that this owl was different from the rest. It didn't even care about him when he walked into the shop, but once he start looking at each and all of the owls, this particular one let out a cry catching his attention, almost as if the owl was trying to get his attention to be picked.

With everything other than the wand, Thomas and his group left the pet shop, heading towards one of the most popular shops, the Ollivanders, and while it was by far a place with a beautiful exterior, it was more than enough for a wizard or a witch to get their first and most of the time only wand.

When Thomas opened the door and walked into the shop, the jingle bell rang in the shop. A second later, a man appeared behind them, scaring the kids.

"Good day. I do hope I didn't scare you."

Irina was about lash out at the man, but her mother shook her head, telling her not to make a scene there. Seeing that his friend wasn't going to yell, Thomas decided to greet the man before telling him what he was there for.

"Hello, sir, I want to buy..."

"A magic wand, of course, but aren't you quite young to be a freshman at Hogwarts?"

"Yes, sir. I'm only nine years old."

"Oh, my. I'm sorry, but until you are eleven years old, I'm not allowed to sell you any wand, Ministry of Magic orders."

"I see. Nevertheless thank you for your time, sir."

"Once you are old enough you know where to find me."

Even though he didn't get a wand, Thomas still acted polity towards the man, after all, he was just doing his job, but everyone could see how disappointed the boy truly was. Irina tried to cheer him up, but no matter what she did, Thomas wasn't responding to her like he usually does, instead the young boy kept his head down the whole way, not speaking even once.

After they picked up the robes, they returned to the bank where Jonathan was already waiting for them. When he saw the down look on his son's face, Jon turned to his wife, trying to figure out what happened to their son. Kate told him what happened, making the poor man feel bad for his son, after all only they know just how much their baby dreamed of having his own wand. Strangely enough, Myra and Irina had to leave because Griselda had come by their home, leaving Thomas with his parents alone in Diagon Alley.

Since there was nothing they could do about the wand, the Graysons decided to call it a day and return to their home. As he was still sad about what happened at the Ollivanders, Thomas didn't notice that he was walking behind his parents until it was too late. Just as he was about to panic, a woman tap him on the shoulder making the young boy look at her.

"Did you got lost?"

While he wanted to answer her that he was indeed lost, Thomas remembered what his mother told him once about talking with strangers, and since he'd rather not be kidnapped by some shady-looking woman, he decided to ignore her and walk towards the wall from where they walked in the Diagon Alley. Looking at the back of the young boy, the woman covered her mouth before smiling at him, but not before sending a small piece of paper into one of his pockets.

Once Thomas found his parents, who were frantically searching for him, he apologize to them for not paying attention to where he was walking before leaving the Diagon Alley with them.
