Harry Potter Enshrouded

Chapter 10: Night out

Adrian Blackthorn's agreement to accompany Draco Malfoy to the supposed midnight duel with Harry Potter was not a matter of loyalty or reckless bravado. It was a choice rooted in curiosity and strategy. Adrian understood Draco's love for theatrics and saw an opportunity to keep an eye on Harry and his friends. Due to the changes in the plot so far, he could not be left in the dark.

As midnight approached, Adrian, Draco, and Theodore Nott made their way to the trophy room, the agreed meeting spot. Crabbe and Goyle stayed back in the dormitory as Malfoy never informed them.

"This is going to be brilliant," Draco whispered, his eyes gleaming with excitement and malic. "Potter will be humiliated when he doesn't show up."

Adrian t remained silent. He knew Harry would be there as this scene was going exactly according to the plot.

The trophy room was dimly lit as the moonlight gazed through the tall windows. The boys waited in silence, paying attention to every creak and sound.

It wasn't long before they heard hurried footsteps. Adrian's sharp eyes caught sight of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, and Ron Weasley entering the room.

"You should ot break the rules" as Hermione was reprimanding Harry.

"Your so annoying.... can you please not talk. If Filch hears us, we are all dead?" Ron looked visibly annoyed at Hermione.

"Right on time," Draco sneered. "I knew you would come."

"Wait..Adrian ? Why is a good student like you breaking the rules? I thought you would be sensible." asked the surprised Hermione.

"Well, you haven't broken a rule until you are caught breaking one said Adrian. And I don't think anybody will ever catch me breaking a rule. Also I could say the same to you. Do you think professor Mcgonagall would let you off now that you have come this far?"

Hearing this, Hermione decided to remain silent.

"Take your bows and let the duel began." Nott announced that loudly.

Before any wands could be drawn, the sound of a distant meow sent shivers down everyone's spine.

"Mrs. Norris!" Hermione whispered urgently.

And then they heard the unmistakable voice of Argus Filch, the caretaker."Let me catch those slimy bastards. Who's there?"

Panic spread through the group like a wildfire.

"Run!" Adrian hissed, grabbing Draco by the sleeve and pulling him towards the door. The two groups scrambled in opposite directions] as they both were trying to escape unseen.

The chase through the darkened corridors was chaotic. Adrian kept his head low and his ears sharp. It was at this moment, he wished he knew the disillusionment charm as he maneuvered through twists and turns. Behind him, he could hear the shouts of Filch and the hisses of Mrs. Norris as they pursued them relentlessly.

It wasn't long before Adrian, along with Draco and the others, found themselves on the forbidden fourth floor. The group stopped and halted in front of a massive, locked door. Before anyone could suggest turning back, the chubby Neville lost his balance and stumbled, pushing the door open just enough for them to catch a glimpse of what lay beyond.

A three-headed dog that was enormous and ferocious, loomed in the dim light. Its yellow eyes glared at the intruders, drool dripping from its fangs.

One of the reasons Adrian came here, was to test his strength against the beast. Yet, the pressure the beast gave out was something different. He had underestimated the power of the three headed dog

"Confringo" the shout was desperate as ,Adrian channeled everybit of willpower into his wand. The blasting curse severed the beast's arm as it let out a cry of pain.

"Shut the door!" Hermione shrieked. The beast is distraught.

Nott rushed to the door and slammed it shut.

The huffs and puffs of everybody could be heard as they had narrowly survived. And it was all thanks to Adrian.

"What is that doing in the school?" Neville stammered, his voice shaking.

Draco's confidence had vanished, replaced with a look of sheer horror. "I...I told you this was a bad idea!"

"We need to get out of here," Adrian said firmly, his voice cutting through the rising panic. "Now."

As they raced back towards their dormitories, Adrian noticed something strange. Down a nearby corridor, barely visible in the faint moonlight, stood Professor Quirrell. He was obscured by shadows, his back to Adrian as he appeared to be muttering under his breath. The professor's turbaned head twitched slightly, almost unnaturally, as if listening to someone to somebody speaking.

Adrian slowed for a fraction of a second as his curiosity piqued yet, the urgency of their escape forced him to move on.

Back in the safety of the Slytherin common room, Adrian's mind raced. Draco was ranting loudly about how ridiculous the entire escape had been while not forgetting to praise Adrian while, Nott muttered something about never trusting Gryffindors.

"You guys left the dormitory right now?" asked Evanna

Draco and Theodore nodded before, narrating the entire story to Evanna who, was shocked beyond belief.

"I cant believe Dumbledore would put something like that in school. I must verify its authenticity."

As the excitement regarding tonight's travels died down and dormitory fell into a state of slumber, voices could be heard up in the fourth floor.

"Severus, who do you think could have injured Fluffy so seriously? It definitely could not be a student. I dont think a student there is a student that has such ability. Casting a confringo with so much precision."asked Dumbledore.

"Hmm.. It could have been the person who robbed Gringotts recently. He might be trying to steal the Philosopher's stone. At least we now know that the perpetrator is in school. We can increase our security measures."

As the night soon went by, little did Adrian know that he, had barely gotten away with this incident. He needed to be much careful in the future. His plans could not be afforded to be exposed. At least, not for now.
