Chapter 3: First Job

As he sat inside one of the many train cars, Harry glanced at Levy, who was sitting right in front of him, opening a basket of sandwiches. "Is Kunugi big?" They were heading exactly to that place. Makarov had given them more information related to the job: the client was a forty-two-year-old man named William, who had a farm near Kunugi. The problem was that some plants considered to be weeds were beginning to grow on his farms, causing many vegetables to die in the process.

"Not at all," Levy told him, taking out a sandwich to give to Harry. "Between Onibus, Kunugi, and Oshibana, it's the smallest place on the route. In fact, it's more of a village than a town. The station only has about three houses that serve as stops."

"Why do you think this man needs magical help?" Harry asked curiously. While fire seemed to be somewhat effective against the vegetation, it seemed like too drastic a solution. That's what she thinks. "Aren't there other things that could solve the problem?"

"True," Levy nodded before licking her thumb, which ended up with some mayonnaise. "But I think you're missing something, Harry. Or rather, you have a misunderstanding. The wizard guilds do receive a lot of jobs, where spells are necessary. But that doesn't mean that we don't receive normal jobs. The three places I mentioned to you, don't have guilds of any kind in their vicinity. That's why Magnolia, and therefore Fairy Tail, receives a lot of types of jobs."

"In the future, when you look for a job on the wall, maybe you'll find a mother who needs her baby taken care of. Or a restaurant that needs a waiter." Levy took a bite of her sandwich before swallowing and continuing. "As for the job you received, our client has probably already tried using normal methods to get rid of his problem. After all, we're talking about a farmer. Wouldn't it be normal for him to know how to deal with this kind of plant invasion?"

"Ah... you're right," Harry felt a little foolish, but thankful to have someone like Levy around. She explained things very well. As they ate and chatted a bit, the sound of the train passing by the tracks at high speed was causing him to fall asleep. He didn't know how long the trip would take, but he simply drifted off a little before crossing his arms and closing his eyes.

Just like the first night, he dreamed. He was on a train, a different one than the one he had gotten on. The landscape outside, in fact, was completely different. Instead of large expanses of light-hued brown land, he was looking at green hills and vast plains. The sky was completely cloudy, but rays of sunlight were passing through.

"Hey, Harry, don't you want that?" Before he could react properly, he saw a hand squeezing a chocolate frog that had been on his lap. Blinking, he stared at a red-haired boy who did nothing to silence the noise of chewing the poor frog. "Why are you looking at me like that? You didn't want it! Besides, you have money to buy another one."

"Ronald!" Next to him, a girl with brown hair admonished the red-haired boy. She then looked at him with a frown. "Harry, you should tell him something. Even if we're friends, it's not okay to take food away."

"Who...?" Harry immediately felt a headache. He began to slowly wake up, but before he came back to reality, he could see a streak of red appear in front of him. Startled, he almost fell out of his seat. "Uh..."

"What happened to you?" Levy looked at him, clearly puzzled. "Bad dream?"

"Um... I don't know if I should consider it good or bad. I think it was my memories?"

"Oh..." Levy nodded, a little worried. "If I may ask, what was it about?"

"I was on a train, traveling with two people. I think they were friends, from what they said. Ron, one was called. The other person, was a girl," Harry sighed a little before sitting up in a better position and looked out the window. "How long was I asleep?"

"Half an hour."

"That long? It felt like a couple of minutes."

"We're almost there," Levy looked outside as well. They were passing through a path between two rock walls. It looked like someone had created this part, as the walls were too clean and smooth for it to be something natural. Considering that there was a train track, then it wasn't strange. Harry thought, looking at the trees that could be seen on top. Soon, he could see a small hut on its side. And on the other, there were two houses, one bigger than the other. It didn't have doors. Inside, some people were waiting, while a man in a blue uniform was shaking a bell.

"Come on. We have to get off here."

"Okay," Harry stood up, walking down the middle of the carriage, until Levy opened the door, where they got off with a small jump. The platform seemed half a meter above the ground, so they had to go down a ladder before walking on the side of the tracks, until they reached a path that ascended along the part of the wall. Above, other than a bit of forest, there didn't seem to be anything else.

Levy didn't hesitate one bit in her walk. "Kunugi is a little further ahead, behind this small forest." Harry simply drank in the scenery as he walked forward. He felt a little strange doing all this. After having seen those two people his age, he felt like he was doing something wrong. He didn't understand! And that made his mood a little worse. Why would he be doing something wrong? He was trying to live his life while regaining his memory. If they were really his friends, then they would understand.

Sighing a little, he looked ahead, only to be shocked. "What the hell?!" he shouted in shock, while Levy had her mouth open. The village didn't seem to have more than about twenty houses, with a vertical path in the middle, and a few horizontal ones, dividing the whole place. The problem, was that there were an uncountable amount of some kind of vines. Or so it looked from his position. The paths, the fences surrounding each house's land, even the buildings themselves, were being surrounded by these green things that gathered and intertwined to look like a mass of green.

"Okay, this is definitely not normal," Levy frowned a little, walking with longer and faster steps. Harry immediately followed her, until they reached the main path. There was no one outside, at least in the first homes.

"Excuse me!" the blue-haired girl ran a little when she saw a woman sweeping inside her land. "Excuse me, we are from Fairy Tail! We have come for the work that Mr. William asked us to do."

The woman, with blonde hair and a slightly grumpy face, became much less tense when she saw him. "Fairy Tail... That's wonderful! Thank you for coming. Ever since that stubborn man brought that plant, we've only had trouble. You can find the idiot at the end of the village! There's the farm."

"Good. Thank you very much."

. . . . .

Part 2.

William is a man in his forties, wearing blue jeans, a plaid shirt, and a straw hat. The two wizards arrived just in time to see him use a sickle to cut down the climbing plants that were crowding the side of his barn. "As you can see, it's grown too tall! I thought I could bring in more income for the village, but…" his expression turned into something akin to embarrassment. "I thought I could deal with this, but for some reason, this was the result."

Levy plucked a leaf from the plants and blinked. "You… you wanted to use the Kudzu to produce food?"

"Yes. Girl, you know things, apparently…"

"Kudzu?" Harry asked, confused.

"It's a type of vine. Its roots contain starch, which can be used to make certain foods. Actually, even without producing said foods, the roots sell quite well," Levy dropped the leaf as she rubbed her index finger with her thumb. "But this isn't Kudzu. Mr. William, it seems you've been scammed."

"What?!"

"The leaf is similar, but…", Levy squatted down as she grabbed a handful of the vines before pulling. "There are no pods around here, which is what you usually see in Kudzu. I can't see any flowers that have bloomed nearby either. Uh, I'm sorry to say this, but this thing is nothing more than a common mageia vine. Basically, they grow non-stop as long as they have a sufficient amount of Ethernano nearby."

"It can't be…", William frowned as he looked at the vines. "Are you completely sure?"

"Yes," Levy stood up as she said. "In fact, you can sue whoever sold you the seeds. Because of their rapid growth and spread, as well as the negative effects on different ecosystems, cultivation has been banned by the Magic Council and the Kingdom of Fiore. Many also remove them when they see them in the wild."

"Damn it! I'll sue that idiot for sure!" William was angry enough for his face to turn a little red. "Can you guys deal with this?"

"Fortunately," Levy smiled with some pride. "You were right to ask for mages who use fire magic. It's the best way to remove them. Though... I think we should remove them from houses. We don't want to burn down homes, do we?"

"I'll help you, lass!" William raised his sickle.

"We will too. Would you have any more tools?"

"Of course. Come with me."

As they went to get the tools, Harry stared at Levy with a smile. "W-What's wrong?" she glanced at him. "You haven't stopped staring at me."

"No... I was just impressed. You know a lot of things, Levy. You're great."

"O-Oh," she moved slightly to the side. "Thanks, I guess? Anyway, let's get to work! We've got a lot to do!" Hiding her shyness, she shouted as she raised her fists. Using rakes to pull at the buildup of vines and sickles to cut them, they slowly peeled her off the barn.

"Why aren't you burning?"

"I could, but I want to see your magic. I've been curious. Can you?"

"My magic..." she pursed her lips, trying to hide her smile, but in the end she puffed out her chest a little and moved her index finger through the air, writing. "Solid Script: Fire." She spoke, causing the word to take form and ignite before being thrown into the vines. "What I write, can take shape and properties.

"What do you think? Cool, right?"

"Yes. And extremely versatile," Harry smiled before his right hand went through a transformation. Tongues of flame into feather shapes, golden claws, and a fireball igniting before being thrown out to burn away William's problem and the rest of the village.

As they continued with the work, they climbed up onto the roof, throwing the cut to the ground. Flames built up, but were constantly being controlled. However, layers of smoke rose into the sky. Worse, it had a foul smell.

"Harry, I'll take care of dispelling the smoke. Can you take care of incinerating everything?"

"Of course. Do your thing."

Just like that, in a matter of half an hour, they finished with the barn. Now only the rest of the village remained. At least, some people decided to help remove the things from their house and leave them in their yards, to speed up the process. While Harry burned everything, Levy used her magic to disperse the smoke into the sky. Gusts of wind and a bit of splashing water to remove all of that, as well as a floral scent to absolutely destroy all of the bad smell caused.

After about three hours, Harry was sweating a little from all the moving around. "Mr. William, if you want to buy Kudzu, you better take a trip to Magnolia. Or better yet, to Crocus. The capital has a lot of good seeds for your farm."

"I will! I still want to improve the village, lass," scratching his head a bit, William handed over the money. "Here. Thank you very much for everything. If it weren't for you, then I wouldn't know what to do. Seriously."

Harry nodded before dividing the 15,000 Jewels. "Here, Levy. Your share."

"Uh... really? I was just thinking about helping you with your first job, I wasn't in it for the money."

"Hey, you were saying smart and cool things a few hours ago. Why are you talking nonsense now?" Harry smiled, but received a kick to his ankle. Laughing, he handed over the bills before bidding William farewell.

They both walked while raising their hands, saying goodbye to a few people. "Now that I have a little money, I should think about looking for places to live."

"Fifteen thousand won't be enough for you."

"I figured as much, but knowing the prices isn't a bad idea. Do you know of any places?"

"That depends on how big you want the place to be and the amenities," Levy shrugged. "Would you like some advice? Build your own house, or hire people who know how to do it. Fairy Tail has a female dorm, which cuts down on our expenses, but I still think it's better to spend the money to build a house. It's better for the future."

"There isn't one for men?"

"There was. It was destroyed. By fighting."

"Ah..."

"Exactly."

"And how much would a piece of land for a house cost?" Harry frowned. "Enough for a small garden," he commented at last, remembering flowers and his own hands, delicately tending them.

"That depends too," Levy laughed a little. "Magnolia is a city, so it has a mayor. Don't talk to him. He's not a bad person, but he's a bit greedy. You could also go further into the forest. You wouldn't have to pay for the land, but it might be a bit dangerous. And also further away."

"Hey, hey... if I can't talk to the mayor, who can I talk to?"

"The Governor of the region," Levy replied. "You should tell the master about your idea of having a house, or a place to live. He'll probably be able to help you better than I can."

"Better? Yes, I think so. But, Levy, you've been very helpful too."

"Don't praise me too much, you won't get anywhere, Harry."

"Not even less homework?"

"Less something like that!"

"Ha, ha, ha!", laughing, Harry walked towards Kunugi Station, feeling like he was a bit better. Happier than yesterday. More relaxed and, above all, eager to move forward. He still knew that he needed to remember many things. The medicines were taking effect, so it was only a matter of time.

. . . .

Part 3.

"Man!" someone shouted as he placed his hand on one of Harry's shoulders. "I heard from my sister that you're a Take Over user. Do you want to train a little? A man has to train constantly to be strong!"

As it had been these past two days, Harry felt puzzled. He hadn't seen this person, but taking into account the hair, as well as the mention of a sister, then... "Are you Mirajane's brother? Nice to meet you."

"Yes! Let's go train a little."

Harry was silent, until he nodded. Anyway, he had already finished reporting the end of his work, where there were no problems. Training was necessary, especially when he needed to carry out more complicated missions, where he would probably have to fight. He wanted money. He needed such a thing in order to live moderately comfortably.

When they came out to the back, which eventually led to the sands of Lake Scilliora, they began to fight.

"I'll start," Elfman smiled, excited. His right arm glowed for an instant, only to transform into that of a beast. It was twice as large, with sharp claws and red scales. "Beast Arm: Scaled Bull!" Announcing his change, he ran at full speed, throwing a strong punch.

Harry was a little surprised at the speed. It was the first time, as far as he could remember, that he had seen a human move in such a way. And it was even more impressive considering Elfman Strauss' size, which was almost two meters tall. He was also broad, with strong muscles all over his body.

The magic he used, Take Over, was clearly of the beast type; creatures that were considered more dangerous than more normal animals. Of course, this did not mean that he could not transform parts of his body into certain animals that were a little more normal than a scaled bull. For example, a bear.

Anyway, when Harry saw that the fist was already near his nose, he immediately stepped back and punched upwards, at the same time transforming his right arm. Crimson flames with golden hues appeared as it impacted on his opponent's forearm. "Oh!" Elfman yelled a bit surprised. Taking a step back, he nodded with a smile. "It's cool, man. I've never seen a Take Over like that before, not since my sister."

"Thanks..." Harry nodded before asking. "Can you... fully transform?"

At the question, Elfman froze a bit before scratching the back of his head. "No..." he said before sighing. "I have a hard time doing it. That's why I train my body a lot too. Hey, do you want to go out with me? Every morning, I run around Magnolia."

"Sure," Harry smiled, gladly accepting the kind invitation. "Shall we continue with this? I'd also like to learn how to better control my partial transformation."

"That's the way to say it! Come on, man!"

As they used their fists and legs to beat each other up, Mirajane was watching from near the door. More than a concern for the injuries they might cause, she was very curious about Harry's Take Over magic. "Master...", beside her, Makarov was also watching, drinking some beer. "What kind of factor do you think Harry has?"

"Hm?"

"I mean, if his transformations are fantasy creatures, what factor has he obtained? He must have one. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to transform."

"That's something I've wondered about as well. It's interesting, but I haven't come up with an answer. Since I've named his Take Over type, Fantasy... Shall we call it that, for now? Fantasy Factor. Sounds nice."

"Cute... And oddly suitable for a fairy!"

"Right?!" Makarov nodded forcefully.

Mirajane placed a hand on her cheeks as she closed her eyes and sighed a little. "Although... I feel a little worried, master. While I can sense that Harry has a good amount of magic power, he won't have any trouble with animals or many beasts. But he..."

"Are you afraid that he'll try to fight something too powerful?"

"Yes. But, more than that, won't it be nearly impossible for him to find those fantastical entities? Dragons might still exist, from what Natsu has told us. But, a phoenix? The feather he had, helped him, but I don't think there are any more of those creatures, right? How will he be able to find other things to transform into?"

Makarov fell silent before he let out a small sigh. "Look, can you keep a secret?"

"Depends, is it too dangerous?"

"No... it's not."

"Then, I can do it," she nodded seriously.

Makarov lowered his head slightly, but his eyes pointed at Harry's figure, who had jumped back with the help of his wings. "When Porlyusca called me a few days ago to inform me that she had Harry, she explained a few things to me. One of them was that he had two things inside his body."

"Two things?"

"It seems that they had been constantly fusing with his blood. One was something that was constantly healing him, but the other was an extremely dangerous poison. If it weren't for the first, that boy would have been dead a long time ago. I can't even understand how it's not causing him pain."

"Uh... Master, while that is worrying, I don't understand why you're telling me."

Pursing his lips slightly, Makarov said. "In legends, a phoenix is able to heal wounds. Some writings say that they did so through their flames. Others said it was through their tears. Harry has a phoenix feather, from what he said. What if that's in his blood, it's phoenix tears? It could explain why he was able to access this kind of magic that he can now use."

Mirajane blinked before opening her mouth, but closed it immediately. With a slightly strange look, she thought carefully before speaking. "You mean... could he have a second transformation? A creature that injected him with that poison?"

"It's possible, yes," Makarov looked with some sadness. "But I don't want to rush him. Can you imagine, Mira? He only looks to be about fifteen or sixteen, but if he's encountered two legendary creatures, what kinds of dangers has he been through? Part of me wants him to remember everything, so he'll feel complete. But the other... well... I just want him to never remember, in case most of it is bad memories. Wouldn't that be better?"

"Master, you're always so kind..." Mirajane smiled fondly, almost like a daughter talking to her grandfather, but then she smiled with mischief written all over her face. "But, I wonder, can Harry eat fire to recover? Sounds like an experiment!"

Makarov smiled the same way as he raised his finger and shot out a huge flame. "Hey, brat, catch it!" he shouted, scaring the two training men, who hadn't noticed the audience they had.

"Huh?!" Elfman shouted in surprise, but Harry didn't even get the chance as he was thrown five meters to the side. Mira and Makarov began to sweat buckets as they saw that Harry wasn't getting up.

He definitely couldn't eat fire.

"Shit!" But suddenly, he jumped up. His eyes were wide open, watching as his crimson flames were absorbing the ones that stuck to his body. Slowly, they changed color before they flared up even more. "Oh? I feel a little bit stronger."

"Master, I'll tell Mrs. Porlyusca that he attacked her patient."

"What?! But you..."

"Who attacked him?" Mirajane, mercilessly, was throwing the old man into the clutches of a woman worse than a demon.
