Chapter 28: Epilogue: Years later (I)
Gabrielle Delacour looked at her reflection in a large mirror. Perplexed by what she was seeing, she paid no attention to the conversation going on behind her.
"Is this a good idea?" Belmont Delacour asked, looking at his daughter a little worried.
"Well... I've seen the beautiful dresses Harry makes, but he completely outdid himself with this one," Apolline said a little surprised as she looked at him with a hand on her cheek. Her son-in-law always gave splendid results when it came to his work, but she had never seen a dress like Gabrielle's. It was white and silver, as Gabrielle had requested, but the design was just... Apolline didn't know how to describe it.
The dress was long, but it didn't touch the floor. The right side was separated, so it left room for Gabrielle's right leg to be exposed as needed and not overdo it. The dress had an elegant collar, but it wasn't connected to the chest part, leaving Gabrielle's shoulders and cleavage visible. But at the back, the fabric of the dress did connect with the neck, and also with the fabric that covered the forearms, forming large and comfortable almost translucent sleeves that seemed to emit small silver sparkles.
The dress along with Gabrielle's appearance made her look like a goddess.
Belmont was worried that his daughter's appearance would cause some trouble at her prom. As for Apolline, she was happy and proud of her daughter.
"I like it very much...", Gabrielle turned and smiled, causing the sleeves and the fabric that connected to her neck to shine a little more. The effect was magnificent, almost as if she left a trail of sparkle with each movement.
Belmont sighed a little, but smiled anyway. He was Gabrielle's father, he was happy when he saw his daughter's happiness.
Suddenly, the door to the living room opened.
"Sorry I ended up being a little late."
"Don't worry, Harry. We know how busy you can be. With the success of the shops and all," Apolline smiled at her son-in-law.
"Harry! How do I look?!" Gabrielle asked excitedly as she turned around a bit.
"Beautiful. Like a little goddess," Harry replied with a smile.
"Hehe~," Gabrielle laughed shyly, pleased with the words.
"By the way, what about Fleur?"
Harry snorted in annoyance.
"She doesn't want to pay attention to me. She's still working on some things at the bakery."
Apolline shook her head and said,
"You worry too much, Harry. Fleur isn't even two months old yet. She can still work."
"Still... What if she has an accident? If she falls? Or hits herself hard?"
"He's right. Fleur has to be much more careful now that she's pregnant," Belmont said seriously.
Apolline looked back and forth between her husband and son-in-law. She snorted and put her hands on her hips.
"And what do you want to do? Lock her up?"
"No... of course not, I'm just asking that she calm down a bit. It'll be fine if she doesn't manage the bakery. I can do that. Or I could hire someone else too."
Belmont nodded twice, agreeing with Harry.
"She'll be mad at you if you do that," Gabrielle told him, smiling with amusement clear on her face.
Harry looked at her before crossing his arms.
"Changing the subject. Who are you going to the ball with? I'm curious."
Gabrielle blinked before coughing a little. She noticed her father's gaze.
"Jules..."
Harry blinked before letting out a small laugh.
"That shy boy chasing you around like a little puppy? He'll probably end up fainting in the middle of the dance."
"At least it's Jules and not that other boy... what was his name?"
"Francis?" Apolline asked.
"No, Harry pushed that one away."
"Wait, what?" Gabrielle looked at her father in disbelief. Harry just smiled, proud of what he had done.
"I think you mean Alphonse."
"Ah, yes, that boy."
Apolline frowned and looked at her husband in bewilderment.
"But Alphonse is afraid of Gabrielle. I don't know why though."
Belmont and Harry looked at each other for a moment.
"Who knows..."
"Yeah, who knows. But it's better this way. It was too annoying."
"You two..." mother and daughter looked at the two men. Neither of them knew how to react properly. Clearly they had both done something to make Alphonse fear Gabrielle. Or rather, fear them.
"Hello? Ah, there you are," Fleur suddenly entered the room. She smiled at the sight of everyone gathered, but when she shifted her gaze to Gabrielle, she gasped a little before hugging her and looking more closely.
"Gabrielle, you look beautiful."
"Yes! The dress is magnificent!"
"Not even a hello?" Harry asked while raising his eyebrows. Fleur just laughed before approaching her husband and giving him a kiss on the lips.
"Does the little baby need attention?"
"Hey, I just want a kiss as a hello," Harry replied a little annoyed.
Fleur simply laughed a little before putting her arm around Harry's back. He responded in kind.
"Sister, I'm sure you'll be the prettiest at the ball."
"Thank you," Gabrielle smiled.
"By the way, I hope you don't do too much. We have a gift for the next day."
"Gift? What gift?"
"It wouldn't be a surprise if we told you, would it?" Harry winked, causing Gabrielle to puff her cheeks out a bit. She was now very curious about this gift.
"Well, now that we tried on the dress, we can relax a bit," Apolline clapped her hands once, drawing everyone's attention.
"Mm... that's a good idea," Harry nodded. "I've had a lot of work these past few days."
"That's because you keep making new designs, you fool."
Harry simply crossed his arms.
. . .
Sitting in the courtyard of the Potter mansion, Apolline took a sip of her juice before looking at her daughter and son-in-law.
"By the way, darlings. Have you decided on a name for the little one?"
"Yes," Fleur replied immediately.
"That's great. Some first-time parents take quite a while."
"Well, we had a lot of options..." Harry commented with a smile.
"We thought of several of them, but we settled on Zenobia."
"Zenobia?... Zenobia Potter, it sounds nice. Does it have any meaning?"
Harry puffed out his chest a little as he replied.
"Pride of her father."
"Hahaha!" Apolline immediately started laughing. "Oh, if you're already protective of Gabrielle, I can't imagine how you'll be with your daughter! Although it's a fitting name seeing how happy and impatient you are for her to be born."
Harry felt a little embarrassed at that moment. But he couldn't help it. It would be his first child. He was incredibly happy to start a family with the woman he loved. Having a family was something they had talked about with Fleur. After two years of marriage, they decided it might be a good time, so they stopped using any kind of protection.
Fleur was soon pregnant after that.
"I like the name," Belmont smiled as he set his wine glass down on the table.
"Oh, I don't know what I'll do with you two," Fleur sighed. "Ever since you and Harry met, you've proven to be overly protective. I can't imagine what would happen if there's a second girl."
"I'm just looking out for my family," Harry looked at his wife with a soft expression.
"And I understand that, but you'll have to learn to be calmer."
"I can do that."
"Really?" both mother and daughter asked.
"... ", Harry simply looked at the table.
Fleur and Apolline shook their heads, but both had small smiles.
