Chapter 41: The Dangers of Control
After Ron heard what Evan said, he stood up and stared at him intensely.
"You claim that I intentionally cast a curse I have never heard of?" Ron shouted.
"It's amusing, you just used a powerful corrosion curse on me and you're telling me you've never heard of it," Evan said while waving his wand and pointing it at Ron. "Unfortunately, I have come across this spell in a book on dark magic before, and the description is exactly the same as the one you used."
"Evan, calm down!" the others quickly said as they stood up.
"Haha, that's hilarious," Ron said as he drew his wand. "I see now, must have been that book giving you the illusion that I was attacking you with dark magic."
"I am calm and know what I'm doing," Evan said calmly.
"Surrender, Ron, or I'll go fetch Dumbledore..."
"No!"
"I don't know what you're on about, whatever it is, I'm not going with you. I'm off to bed."
Everyone watched Ron lower his wand and head to his room.
He had barely taken two steps when he suddenly stopped in his tracks, his wand trembling slightly. The common room suddenly grew dim.
"Ron, are you alright?" Harry asked, concerned.
There was no response, just a unsettling silence.
"I don't think Evan meant to do anything wrong, just..."
Before Evan's words could finish, Ron turned and aimed his wand at Evan, emitting an eerie green light. But before the spell could be completed, Evan instinctively cast a spell, interrupting it.
Ron fell slowly, leaving everyone stunned.
After a few seconds, Ginny's scream echoed in the common room, and she quickly ran towards Ron.
"Evan, what have you done?" Harry said, entering into a panic, "You attacked Ron."
"He attacked me first, you should've seen the green light his wand was producing."
"What was that?" Hermione asked anxiously.
"If I'm not mistaken, it was the Killing Curse, he was trying to kill me," Evan said, recalling the green light that reminded him of the Avada Kedavra curse.
"A forbidden curse, that's impossible!"
Hermione gasped while the others were confused.
"Hermione, what do you mean by a forbidden curse?"
"I've read in books that there are three Unforgivable Curses, the Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Avada Kedavra Curse," Hermione explained. "They are extremely wicked dark magics, once used, they land you straight in Azkaban."
"Azkaban!" Colin trembled in his voice, "Evan said Ron was about to attack him with the Avada Kedavra Curse."
"I don't think it was Ron, something must have been controlling him!"
Since Ron attacked him in the Great Hall with the corrosive spell, Evan knew it wasn't a spell a second-year student could master, especially with a broken wand.
Was it a coincidence?
But even if there was a mutation, there should be a limit.
Thinking back on Ron's spells in the past, aside from setting fire to a few things or making him vomit slugs for a week, he couldn't do much.
When facing me in a duel, he suddenly produced powerful dark magic, it's all too suspicious. But if Tom Riddle was controlling him, everything could be perfectly explained.
As a student, Voldemort must have read countless books on dark magic.
This also explains why Ginny knew nothing about the diary.
Evan sighed, if all goes well, the Chamber of Secrets will be resolved soon.
There will be no more attacks, and Riddle won't control Ron in front of Dumbledore. When he wakes up, he will know where the diary is hidden. The mandrakes will soon mature, Snape will use them to prepare an antidote.
"But I don't understand, who would control Ron?" Harry cautiously asked, "And what is their connection to the chamber?"
"That doesn't matter, the question is, what do we do now?"
Hermione gazed at the door anxiously. Evan held his wand, Ron lay on the floor like a lifeless body, and Ginny wept beside Ron. How would they explain this if someone else saw it?
"Let's go to Professor McGonagall or Dumbledore; they will know what to do."
In the infirmary, Dumbledore stood by Ron's bed with an unusually serious expression.
Beside him were Professor McGonagall and Snape, the latter leaning over examining Ron carefully.
"Albus, Weasley, this is..." Professor McGonagall said, worried.
"A powerful curse has been cast upon his soul, poor boy, he must have been unaware of what he was doing," said Dumbledore as he observed Ron lying still.
"Obviously, that's why Weasley with that empty head of his could suddenly cast such a powerful corrosive curse," Snape said with a disgusted look, "But fortunately, he hasn't been cursed enough to become an idiot who knows nothing."
Snape pulled a bottle of potion from his chest and poured it down Ron's throat.
At the same time, Ron woke up, looked at them with a confused expression.
"Where am I?"
He then noticed the professors beside him and in a surprised tone said, "How are you, professors...?"
"Thank the heavens you've awakened, Weasley!" said Professor McGonagall, "You were under the Imperius Curse!"
"Imperius Curse?"
"Yes, it's a very dark and evil magic; people under this curse lose their free will, it allows controlling the minds of others."
"But I don't remember anything, what did I do?" Ron asked as he shook his head.
"You used a corrosive curse on Mason, and then attempted to kill him with the Killing Curse," Snape said with a slight disdain, "But obviously, you were unsuccessful; with your weak magical strength, even if you had hit him, I suspect it would have only caused a mild nosebleed."
"But I..."
"Mr. Weasley, it's not your fault, even some powerful wizards are susceptible to the Imperius Curse."
Dumbledore said with a dignified expression as he gazed at Ron and gently asked, "But I must ask you, is there anything you wish to tell me?"
"No, no," said Ron, pale, not knowing what to say, hesitating for a long time before softly responding, "I don't remember anything, Professor!"
