Happry Potter: The New Player

Chapter 19: Secrets of the Past

All Gryffindor students believe that Potions class is worse than Transfiguration.

The Potions class was located in the basement, and the classroom had a faint smell of herbs, with various specimens in jars that made one shiver.

The most dreadful part of the Potions class was Professor Snape. As long as he stood there, no one dared to even whisper.

In the first lesson, after mocking everyone, Snape turned to Evan and prepared to embarrass him.

However, Evan was prepared and answered all the questions correctly.

"Another one like Miss Granger, Mister Perfect," said Professor Snape disdainfully.

"Mister Perfect" was another nickname bestowed by Snape following the previous "Potter's follower," matching Miss Perfect Hermione.

After Snape inquired about nearly everything in "Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi" and "Magical Potions," Snape decided to change his strategy, yet still deducted a point from Gryffindor, arguing that Evan's uniform was not impeccably worn.

He opted to treat Evan as he treats Hermione, with indifference.

This was much easier for Evan, though it was challenging to be happy when Snape kept finding any excuse to deduct points from Gryffindor students.

Nevertheless, Evan had to admit that Snape was competent.

For instance, Snape inscribed on the blackboard a simple potion recipe for treating scabies, slightly varying from the one in the book.

It was a subtle alteration but superior to the book's recipe.

Everyone, except Evan, had not practiced this potion before, so he knew how superior it was in quality.

Snape acted as if it was no big deal, but Evan knew it was. Each potion had been refined and documented by countless potion masters over the years, hence enhancing the recipe even slightly would necessitate countless hours of research by numerous potion masters, yet for Snape, it was a simple feat.

Even improving the most basic of basic potions should demonstrate to people that he was one of the best, if not the best, potions master.

"Snape is terrible, as everyone told me," said Colin, who seemed like he had not fully recovered from the Potions class.

He appeared tormented by what could have happened; if Evan hadn't stopped him from putting the wrong ingredient in the potion, Colin would have spent the night in the infirmary. However, if Snape hadn't singled out Colin, he might not have made the mistake in the first place.

Due to Colin's mistake, two points were deducted from Gryffindor, and Colin received Snape's "Troll" rating.

"Colin, cheer up, even if people seem bad, it doesn't mean they aren't still good at heart," said Evan, trying to console him.

When Ron, who had just sat down, heard his remark, he immediately stood up and exclaimed, "Good heavens, you're praising Snape."

"I'm just being honest," said Evan, choosing not to respond to Ron and began eating his cake.

"Hello, Harry!" Colin greeted as he saw Harry approaching while hastily standing up.

"Hi, Colin," Harry responded reluctantly; Colin had said hello six or seven times today already. Harry might be weary of it, but Colin still relished it, as if it were the most exciting thing in the world.

Harry seemed to want to ask for assistance, but Evan couldn't do anything about it.

He couldn't stop Colin or Ginny from admiring Harry even if he tried, just like he couldn't prevent Hermione from adoring Lockhart.

Evan turned to Hermione and said, "Professor Lockhart has agreed to help us; he invited me to his office after dinner and promised to lend us some of his unpublished work."

"Truly, Evan!" exclaimed Hermione with a look of pure joy, "May I accompany you?"

"I believe there shouldn't be any issue, but I have something to write tonight, so I won't be able to go, therefore you can go with Colin and remember to take some photos."

"Do you think you noticed after yesterday's class, what kind of nature that guy had, Hermione?" said Ron, "He's a fraud," murmured Ron.

"Nonsense!" Hermione shouted as she stared at him fixedly. "Everyone has read his books and all the incredible things he has done..."

"Only he claimed to have done something."

After dinner, Hermione and Colin went to Lockhart's office, while Harry and Ron went to find Nearly Headless Nick and ask him to contact the other ghost to discuss the newspaper.

Evan had intended to go with them, but he received a response from Bathilda Bagshot, detailing the life and death of Lily Potter on the day Voldemort was defeated, including many small details.

These were things that had never appeared in any other book.

Evan didn't even tell Harry what he was writing about, he quickly returned to the Gryffindor common room and, after reading the letter several times, began to write.

"The Guardian of Love, The Great Mother Lily Potter!"

Evan briefly introduced Lily's life first, including her outstanding performance at Hogwarts and how she managed to escape Voldemort three times before.

He then wrote about Lily's final days with a slightly lofty and rigorous tone, as if he had witnessed all these events, and added countless details from Bathilda's response.

In the end, he wrote about how James was killed by Voldemort and how Lily fought to protect Harry, leading the article to its climax.

Evan highlighted what a great mother Lily was, her love for Harry, and the tragic scene of the battle, believing that unless one was a Death Eater, they could not help but shed a tear.

Evan omitted the magic Lily had used for the last time, he didn't know what it was, and he wasn't sure if Dumbledore wanted people to know because Bathilda didn't mention it.

According to rumors, Voldemort killed Lily and tried to kill Harry, but failed, either due to a rebounding curse or some other reason, people never knew.

The truth could not be told, but that didn't stop him from imagining some details.

In his description, he mentioned that after Lily's death, as she slowly fell to the ground, she still tightly held onto Voldemort's robe, stopping his advance towards Harry; in her hands, she held a locket with a family photo of the Potters, and on the back, a childhood friend, a young man with black hair. And the text ends.

Evan described how the young man looked, and if anyone could guess who he was, that would be their challenge.

"Well, that's my revenge against Snape!" Evan thought maliciously, "Since you dare to deduct points from me, I must make you suffer a bit!"
